Since Chastain has become our park in the last year, we agreed that we would buy our tree here this year. I stopped in around 7:30 on Thursday, December 1, with the intent of getting a 3-4 foot tree (to put on a pedestal/table so the little one couldn't get to it and pull it over...). There were 4 people working at the time: the owner, Hal, a couple of high school kids, and another man who seemed to be in charge of the actual activity. There weren't many small trees to choose from, and the smallest were all in the 5-6 ft range. Clearly, they're expecting the folks who live in the huge houses and want huge trees. All the trees I saw were in great shape - very full. I ended up picking out a 5' for $35, which I think is cheaper than the other commercial lots I've previously used. They also have a selection of wreaths (fir, pine, boxwood), stands, and tree watering aids (basically a long funnel so that you don't have to bend over and crawl under the tree to water it). I checked all these out as the high school guys were bailing my tree, giving it a fresh cut, and putting the stand on for me. As Hal was ringing me up (they take Visa, not sure about the others), he explained that this is their 2nd year as a fundraiser for the conservancy. For each tree purchased, they plant a tree, and then they'll take your tree back on January 3rd to recycle it. So not only did I get a beautiful tree for a reasonable price, I also got to help my neighborhood park, and I have a guaranteed way to recycle it when the holidays are over. #Yelp365 - 336/365

Rex Christmas Tree Farm was an easy choice based on price and location. It's a family owned business that's open from Thanksgiving Day until they run out of trees. Their website says "until Christmas Eve" but they ran out about mid-December. Lucky for us, we were there on December 1st! There's plenty of free parking and they also sell fresh wreaths and mistletoe. The only thing missing was hot apple cider! There are 10 acres of trees to choose from including Virginia Pines, Leyland Cypress, White Pines (which take 8 years to grow to 5 feet), Blue Ice, Carolina Sapphire, cedars and Green Giants! They range from Charlie Brown sized to full-grown and are priced based on height. $25 for a 6 foot tree, then $5 more per foot. Upon arrival, we grabbed a saw and a tall measuring stick and went tree hunting! Then we chopped it down and carried it back. (That's something to keep in mind if you've walked 3 miles to find one.) Rex will blow all the bugs off, tie it with twine and assist you in attaching it to the top of your car if asked. My 6 foot tree was easily stuffed it into the hatchback. Our tree was so fresh, the house smelled like pine for 2 weeks! I'm actually still partial to my artificial tree because it's low maintenance (no vacuuming or daily watering and I can load it with ornaments without weighing down the branches.) But my fresh tree was so pretty and it smelled so good! Most of all I spread Christmas cheer and created a wonderful holiday memory that I can't recommend enough! Tips - 1. Bundle up and don't forget the camera. This place is Christmas card ready! 2. Don't wait too late, they will sell out! 3. Wear garden gloves and possibly bring your own saw, oil or sharpener. We had quite the mishap with a dull blade. Still, a festively fun time!

When we arrived, we were rather shocked to find out that the original owners had sold a couple…read moreyears ago right after we had visited. Last year, we missed our chance to come up and pick a tree, so we had to go to a different tree farm. It was OK, but just not as good an experience. We had a wonderful time, but we had a hard time finding a tree that would work for us. I called up to the "office" a few times, and got an answer on the fourth attempt. They ARE busy, so it wasn't an issue for me. I wanted to double-check the policy on the trees. (Bow: reserved for a customer; Yellow Tag: already sold; White, Red, or Blue Tags: for sale; No Tag: saving these for next year's crop.) After inquiring and letting them know we were having a hard time finding a tree, they let us know to call back if we couldn't find anything. However, a couple minutes later, they called back to let us know that they'd reached out to management and they quoted us a price per foot for an untagged tree. (This was a special circumstance.) We finished up and found some lovely gift shop items. They still have hot cocoa with marshmallows, but the cider and peanuts are gone. They are also employing a very kind Santa Claus for customers to get free pictures. The gentleman that tied our tree down gave great care to the act and was very personable. The only downsides: parking is a little iffy since the neighbors decided to rope off the area that they used to share, going up ahead of time and reserving your tree is still the best option, and the neighbors don't want non-picture-customers walking over on their land anymore...so, no more petting/visiting/feeding the goats or cows. So, all in all, everything was pretty great- despite the changes.

This was a cut your own place Right off of Prospect Road, and we got a 9 1/2 foot tree for $114. I didn't feel like cutting the tree myself so they cut it for free but they got a good tip. Super friendly and quick and lots of trees to pick from. We will be going there every year.
