I'm so sorry that this review is 2 years overdue but I can't recommend Brown Masonry and Mr. Brown enough. Yelp really came through with this find. It was nice dealing with a veteran owned business that feels really personal with a hands on owner. For some stupid reason 1 side of my wall was basically missing a row of blocks. I've always HATED that my neighbor and I could stare into each other's patio doors without trying. I never wanted to offend him by asking to build the wall up but I took advantage to bring it up as they were moving out. He said yeah he hated it too so go for it. He's on the HOA board so my architectural request got approved within days and the search for a mason began. I got a bunch of responses to my Yelp project request with some saying they don't do small jobs like mine, some crazy quotes of 2k (assume that was F off pricing). Luckily Mr. Brown responded with an incredibly fair quote after I sent details and photos and I think he stopped by the next morning to drop off samples to make sure the colors matched. We got it scheduled pretty quickly and his in person quote was a little lower than the text quote, which has never happened before. It really says what a good and honest person you're dealing with. His guy came out on time, was nice and did a great job. The only issue was that I didn't think I had to mention the mortar should match the existing not match the block color. I didn't pay attention and only caught it after it was done. Mr Brown came out to take a look and his suggestion was to cover the brown mortar with grey. It's not an exact match (I knew it wouldn't be) but it's good enough and I really appreciate his quick response. The common wall we share with our neighbors has water damage and over the years has gotten worse. However, our neighbor's property has had many owners who ignore the problem so we knew that eventually we'd end up having to help repair the wall. Finally, the HOA had some success in stopping the irrigation of the wall. There was substantial damage that we cannot afford to repair, so we got some estimates to repair portions of the wall on our side. (6/20/2023--not sure why Google Maps shows it Permanently Closed) OkIf you're like me, finding and choosing a repair company is not fun. So, if you need block wall repairs, or maybe just want to sound an idea out, call Brown. Steve will swing by and hear you out and give you a fair quote. Had to get a 25' section of cinder block wall repaired from wind damage back in March 23. I had concerns and issues about the remaining 220+ feet of wall on my property. Got Brown's and another company quote. Price per foot was comparable. What was different was Brown addressing specific concerns, offering options and solutions. Also, each additional option I asked for was priced ala carte, which I rather like, as I knew then there wasn't an inflated quote where I couldn't account for cost. I don't mind paying for stuff, as long as I feel I'm not being overcharged. I ended up replacing almost 100 linear feet of wall down to the footer, installing a new 25' pony wall, adding a course here and there, repairing existing walls. So a bigger job than Brown normally does. They're a small crew but I wasn't in a hurry. Obviously, you feel anxiety when your backyard wall is gone, but they kept the openings to a minimum. Brown will work with you as to pet, pool security, etc. Yeah there were rain days when they couldn't work. I appreciated that after laying down almost 70 blocks, when the color of the new block didn't match, Brown took it all down and relaid. Cleanup was better than I expected. The crew was professional and socialable. I can now check off "block wall" off my to-do list. I'd been dreading getting this done and glad it was painless with Brown Masonry. read more

This company needs six stars. I reached out to Brown Masonry to see if I could get my wall repaired. I guess the HOA is feeling a type of way again. Anyway, long story short, the entire transaction was started and completed via Yelp. No phone calls, no in person description of the problem, no awkward small talk, just pure efficiency. AMAZING. A large section of my block wall in the back yard had been seriously cracked by massive tree roots, there were gaps between some of the blocks, and these roots had pushed up the wall into kind of a very flattened-out upside-down V. I had the tree removed & then got rid of most of the roots and the stump myself...what a nightmare of a job THAT was, but I digress. This contractor gave me a quote via email and never came to the house to explain the job. The price was right but when it got down to him filling out the HOA Architecture form and signing he would never make time to come to my house so I could meet him and get him to sign and submit by yesterday for the HOA board meeting tonight.
