She doesn't seem to understand people, eats during sessions, changes from subject to subject and quite honestly, creates an image in her head of what she thinks you're like, which is completely off the wall and so far from the truth when she gives it to you as feedback. She's argumentative, cuts you off and doesn't really seem like she wants to be there and just generally comes across as incendiary and annoying. After five sessions with George, I felt satisfied that I had covered things, was seeing a difference in how I was feeling and handling relationships, and I felt I had learned tools to facilitate triggers should I encounter future symptoms. Everyone's situation is different but for me when researching to find a counsellor, some things that stood out about George were: * 40 years clinical experience * Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from University of Calgary * trained in Christian counselling at Tyndale College * Life Transformation from John and Paula Sandford * Listening Prayer Therapy from Leanne Payne * Level Three Inner Healing from Art Zielstra and John Regier * George's Board of Reference includes professionals and lay people, men and women, all who know him. After going through counselling I appreciate what a good listener George is. He walked me through prayer, asked questions, affirmed me, gave me tools to help me see things more clearly, checked back on progress, and provided welcome insights. George takes great notes and remembers what we covered from week to week. Thank you George for being there to assist me through some tough stuff.

He created a safe and comfortable environment where I can talk openly about my struggles without fear of judgment. What I appreciate most about George is his ability to get to the root of an issue, rather than just treating the symptoms. Also His insightful perspectives and the tools he provides have helped me navigate difficult moments both in the past and present. After every session, I always feel better. I've made so much progress in a short time, and I truly feel like I'm in a better place because of his guidance. I highly recommend George to anyone looking for a therapist who truly listens, and is compassionate, skilled, and understanding.

In Spring 1998, I made the best decision of my life and crawled into Walker House (The women's…read morecentre at the time). I was four months sober yet my life was a total mess. I lacked discipline. My ego was larger than life and I was living in general unmanageable. My life was spiraling downwards fast. I knew I wanted to not only preserve what little sobriety but grow in my recovery. The counselors were not warm and fuzzy. There wasn't an exercise room or any of the frills other treatment centers offer. What they had was a firm understanding of the 12 steps and 12 traditions. They did not reference various books and texts but used AA approved literature and the 24 hour book. I highly recommend this program if you want the meat and potatoes of recovery. It's been 23 years snd I'm still sober and in the AA fellowship.

The counselors were extremely mean and rude and it was a very disempowering experience. I would not wish this place on my worst enemy. I am currently studying addiction at McMaster University and from what I am learning, these women who work here really have no idea what empathy and compassion is, nor do they understand that women need to be nurtured, not scorned and punished. Yet they call themselves women of AA, a program which is supposed to help people, not bring them down. My advice to you is to find a place which empowers their clients, not disempowers them. Find a place that incorporates trauma-informed care with a feminist approach to practice. There are so many other treatment centres out there, I highly recommend not choosing this one!!
