Review of Brown and sons roofing O stars , long review but worth reading.
Do not use them !!!
In December of 2024 I entered into contract with Brown and Sons Roofing for a new roof. I was advised I was 7th on the list due to the winter season and they advised they could not roof during snow, rain or cold. I thought this odd since they are an outdoor company working in Michigan and should be used to working in 40 degree weather putting on a new roof. I checked in periodically and they continued putting me off with excuses of weather or cold temps. Fast forward to April of 2025 and they finally worked me into their work schedule. Upon their arrival at 9 am they arrived with no shingles. I questioned where the shingles were and they advised me they would arrive at 11 am. I have had roofs replaced in another state in the past and the shingles typically arrived 2 days prior, ready for the roofers to work. While I was at work they moved my satellite dish (which is normal to remove the old shingles), however they misaligned the dish and it required I call my satellite company to repair 4 days later. Also that first day while I was at work the foreman entered my back porch without permission and plugged a piece of equipment into an electrical outlet and blew a breaker in my panel. When I got home from work I discovered the electrical panel and checked the breaker panel without finding a problem. I also found their equipment trailer in my side yard on the grass, ( they did not ask permission to park the trailer there). The next morning I advised the foreman who plugged equipment into my back porch and he advised he did, he then called the owner of the roofing company who arrived to tell me I had a bad breaker, if I would go to Lowes Home Improvement and purchase a new breaker he would install it (as far as I know he is not an electrician), I stated so you guys damage my breaker and you want me to pay for a new one. He proceeded to laugh at me in my home and said he would take care of it. (I do not know what he did in my panel, I had to go to work). So, on Friday afternoon at 5:30 pm while at work I did not have an update on my roof ( I assumed the work was complete), I called the foreman and he advised they did not get the rest of the materials until 3:30 and it was raining so he would be out Saturday morning to finish. I again advised him I still did not have power to half my home. Saturday morning he called and advised it was too cold to finish and he would be out Sunday morning. He did not show Sunday and did not call. Monday morning the crew arrived at 9 am and there was no communication between us. At 11:00 am on my way to work the owner called me and advised they ran out of material and could not get any for 4 weeks, and advised he would have to use a different color,(we chose a red roof and he finished they job with black material ), I advised I was not happy, but what choice did I have, ( someone in their company miscalculated and did not order enough red material ). Monday night his son left me a voicemail that he would be out the next morning ( Tuesday )for a final inspection and payment. I was at work and not allowed phone calls. Early the next morning the owner called me to advise his son was on the way for a final inspection and collect payment. I strongly advised there would be no payment since I still had no power. He advised he did not know that and said he would call an electrician to come out, ( I never heard from him again). His son arrived and I very strongly voice all my complaints and he left. I called an electrician, who arrived Friday morning ( three days later )at 8 am and 2 men found the problem at 10 am after 2 hours of intense checking my entire house. I was billed $500 which I forwarded to the roofer. And as of this date he has not paid the bill. When I went to his office to pay him I requested an itemized paid statement and no one in the office was able to produce a statement, advising computer problems. I strongly advised him to send me a statement A.S.A.P., a week later I asked him where the statement was and he advised he would get it in the mail that day. When I finally got the statement in the mail it was not itemized and no where on the statement did it say new roof. Also, while at their office I advised there was an unopened package of shingles that I paid for and should have been left for me. The son advised, if you look at my contract they order extra supplies which they keep ( they obviously did not order enough red membrane) and refused to give me the extra shingles I paid for. I advise anyone not to use this co read more
