I am a new parent of a freshman here at South Broward. I heard a lot of horror stories about this school but so far so good. The freshman invasion was good. I haven't seen a lot of school spirit. The teachers and administration all so far kind people and seem to care about my daughters academics. My daughter loves her math teacher and her Spanish teacher has gone out of her way to tutor my daughter. The school offers free tutoring and we have taken them up on their offer. There are many clubs for your student to become part of. They have cheerleading, football, volley ball, track, swim team (what happened to the pool? So sad it's just a heap of dirt and weeds) photography club, honors, student gov. Just to name a few. Our varsity football is like watching my dolphins play. Start out strong and than lose steam in the end. Not very many attendees or parents at the games. Cheer leaders are super cute and friendly and did fantastic cheers. Spirit squad was a fun visual treat. The band was good but out of uniform for this game I was at and it looked bad to me as a parent and spectator. (visually displeasing) However the band was very good. One sad memory was when it started to rain my niece and I found shelter behind the concession area, up top. We had no idea it was band territory. This older blonde woman came charging at us screaming and I mean screaming. "IF U ARE NOT PART OF THE BAND GET OUT!" she was horrific. I don't know if she was a teacher or parent but either way her representation and how she carried herself while wearing a band shirt was very tasteless. I pray she is not a teacher. She could use tact when dealing with parents. She kinda tainted my first experience at South Broward. Very unkind woman. I guess there is always one bad grape. Overall thus far this high school seems like a good school considering lack of funding that is visually obvious but I can deal with that as long as my teachers continue to do a great job teaching and a big appreciation to my daughters 9th grade math teacher she has turned on some light bulbs in my daughters head and that makes me smile.
