While visiting Zaanse Schans and seeing the village with its windmills, we happened across this gem of a restaurant and microbrewery. Delightfully fresh entrees, with generous portions and friendly atmosphere. Patrons have a clear view of the kitchen and prep area. Wide variety of craft brews to complement the meals. Well worth the stroll to find this place!

Tried beers and gazpacho here. Beers were bitter for me.. I've expected it from IPA, but not from Pilsner style. Gazpacho was really tasty. There are lot of flies were inside the terrace and it was a little distracting from food.

Where to even start with Uiltje…read more Haarlem-based Jopenbier started a competition that was open to the public a few years back that tasked competitors with brewing a "masterpiece beer," with the winner given the privilege of being able to brew the winning beer commercially through Jopen. The now-head brewer of Uiltje supposedly won the competition consecutively for a couple years, before coming to his senses and deciding that he should branch off and start his own brouwerij. Jopen, being the class act they are, helped Uiltje off their feet by providing the brewing equipment and the know-how to get the company up and running; Uiltje initially contract brewed almost all their beers through Jopen, and for those that have ventured a little into the downtown Haarlem area would notice that the "Uiltje Bar" isn't too far away from the "Jopen Church." Touching historical anecdotes aside, Uiltje are one of the most unique and most refreshing breweries I've come across during my journey across the Netherlands; they are decisively American in terms of influence and inspiration, but with lots of decisively Western-European/Dutch elements when it comes to technique. Their IPAs are some of the most well-balanced alpha-acid-packed hoppy ales I've tried on this side of the planet, while their porters, stouts and barrel-aged offerings carry almost as much oomph as some of the Northern European headliners (de Molen, Omnipollo, Amager, etc.). Their design concept ("little owl") is refreshingly cute and comical, much like the people working at the brewery; my server felt more like a long-lost friend who was dying to tell me all about the awesome beers he'd brewed during the long break when I'd purportedly not seen him; the brewer actually stopped by every 45 minutes or so to guzzle down a pint of his favorite brew (his own, duh) and ask me various thoughts about his beers and how they ranked compared to others I've tried. All in all, this would probably rank in as a must-do experience should I return to Haarlem any time in the near future; be forewarned that the Brouwerij is actually quite a bit of a walk away from the nearest NS station, so you may want to keep a bike handy. Food choices at the brewpub is very limited, so might want to grab a bite (maybe at Ikea?) before making your way up Bingerweg. Cash or pin only.

The bartenders were super nice and friendly (always a pleasant surprise) and were talking to the other regulars about what they did last night and what they plan to do after work. Super casual. It seemed like they were also very knowledgeable about beer so if you're not sure, you can consult with them to get recommendations. The beer was great and there were a lot of options. The location is near the park and also near a tram stop if you want to take public transport after your beers (or beer tour, in my case). I hope to do the beer tour again when I'm in Amsterdam and therefore come back to Craft & Draft.

Wooden tables and finishing, black chalkboard, 40 taps and a pleasant bar man who is knowledgable about beer. This is a good place for a pint and there will be options to fit whatever taste you have. I got a lovely IPA recommended to me and really enjoyed it. It's quite far out the centre, but that's actually a good thing and it's worth the walk. If you like craft beer and find yourself in Amsterdam you should make the effort to visit craft & draft.
