Our HVAC conked out on a Sunday! I called Brothers Electro Mechanical, and they sent a team of technicians right away on Monday morning. They did a thorough repair after finding the problem, and also did a complete assessment of the whole unit. We had cool air flowing again by 11:00 a.m! We have had Brothers out to both our current home and our previous one on several occasions. They have always done a stellar job for us. We called Brothers to fix an issue with our furnace. They sent out one mechanic and he said our issue was a sensor. He installed and went on his way. Approximately, two weeks later we had the exact same issue so we called them again. This time a different mechanic came out and said, no it wasn't the sensor it was something different. This time, it was a control panel. He left without saying much of anything except he would order a part. No quote or anything. When we learned the company was going to charge us a 2nd service fee, we contacted the company to get more information. We were told "the owner was on vacation." A second manager/owner returned the call a few days later became belligerent with my husband over the phone because they couldn't justify the second service fee. I was in a different room during the call but I could hear the "owner" yelling at my husband. My husband worked in HVAC, so he's no dummy when it comes to this stuff. We canceled whatever else they were planning to do and here were are-out $400.00 and our unit is still in the same place as before they came out. We'll have to hire someone else to do the work. Edited: We did receive notice that they knocked off the cost of the second visit. So that's a relief. But we still won't use them again because they were so rude. read more

Brothers damaged my walls and metal wall vent when installing a new heater. They left black soot on the carpet in the room adjacent to the heater closet and the metal vent covering was bent & protrudes out from the wall. I paid them -- $6235.51 from October to March, including $5000. 00 + for a new heater. I have been a long term customer. When I asked him to repair the vent, the owner was hostile, said I was accusing him of damage, said my house was filthy, & that he would not repair the damage. A senior citezen who was living in another room & was soon to transition into a nursing home could not do the cleaning herself. I told him no one had access to the room where the damage occurred & that Brothers did that damage. I was shocked & hurt that I was treated so badly after all the money I had spent with this company. They came to service my Lennox Mini split system and told me all three heads were leaking. The tech held up some hand held sensor he held up to each unit that supposedly indicated this, which may have been bogus in hindsight. They said they had to order internal parts and replace the coils, etc. They said it would cost $3500 and needed half of that too proceed. I was sceptical but they were certified Lennox repair so I went with it. I called Lennox, which Brothers didn't offer to do, because the units were still under warranty. Lennox ended up sending new units to replace what I had. I called the guy in charge at Brothers to get the labor reduced since they didn't have to spend as much time taking each unit apart. It didn't take long to replace the units with the new ones. The guy I talked to was very nasty about it and would not budge on the quote. We had a very heated argument over the phone but I thought I got him to agree to adjust the price down if in fact his workers didn't end up spending that much time as originally anticipated, which ended up being the case. In the end they charged me full price (they had my credit card}. Needless to say I got taken advantage of. read more

Relentless in their quest for quality. It took me one year of getting quotes to finally decide on a company to convert our house to refrigerated air. After discussing the issues that older homes have, it became clear the Brothers Electro Mechanical had the knowledge to properly do this job. Additional perks also included the fact that they are the local dealer for Lennox, and that the owner is active in the business. The technicians began work on a Monday and worked non stop for four days until the system was fully functional. The job required a lot of custom alterations to house, and the staff at Brothers Electro Mechanical were more than comfortable spending hours at the onset of the job figuring out the best way to make the house accept the new system. Now that the unit is installed, I can highly recommend this company if you are in the market for an A/C conversion. The installation was excellent, the product performs like those found in commercial buildings, and the crew cleaned up after they were done, making it hard to suspect that the house just received a major alteration.............accept for the ice cold air of course. read more

Brothers did a fantastic job replacing our heating/AC unit. The house is a 35 year old adobe and the piping was never sufficient to run either the heating or A/C well. Brothers designed a system to pull air through the skylights, which solved the problem. Each and every year, twice a year I have to locate another company that can service my swamp cooler and furnace that sit on my 30ft roof. Every fall during the heater start-up I expect to pay the usual excessive rate of $100 regardless of who I go with. I say excessive because I have done the job myself in the past and it's pretty basic, doesn't take but 30min and apart from the long climb up the ladder doesn't require much skill. My issue today with Brothers is the fact that I was quoted that usual $100 before the scheduled service only to be charged 36% over at the close of the job. $20 of which was for the carbon monoxide test that I was told was included in the $100. I refused to pay more than the quote and the technician wouldn't hear me out and left saying to never contact them again...no problem sir, none at all. I did not give one star in this review because I do give credit to the technician for getting a filter (why they had none on hand is beyond me) and although he charged for this & I was willing to pay for that 'overage'- he was a kind gentlemen up until the billing dispute. read more

I am not normally one who writes reviews of businesses but this one deserves an exception. Locally owned and operated, Brothers Electro Mechanical really came through for our family's heating unit in a professional, diligent, and extremely responsive manner. By way of background, we have a fairly new (and extremely-sensitive) Trane Heating unit that has had issues for a couple of years since we moved into our home. It finally starting having major issues when the 'cold snap' hit this year and we called Brothers' to come out and service the unit at a time when every heating unit in Albuquerque was having issues. Vince and his team promptly came out to troubleshoot what turned out to be a firmware issue that required replacement of the Board. In doing so, Vince and his team came out after normal business hours, on weekends, and were extremely responsive at a very busy time for the heating and cooling industry. The good news: after their meticulous troubleshooting efforts, it works great now without a hitch. The great news: they provide a great service at a fair price and could not have been any more gracious and responsive along the way!!!! If I could give these guys ten stars I would!!!!!!! Heating and A/C Installation-Bad Business Practices $10,000 later, the heater doesn't pass inspection, and the heater starts making a winding down sound - like an airplane landing when it stops running. I brought this to their attention and ask for help. They tell me the sound is normal and do not respond to my further written request for assistance. I have been given no instructions for my new thermostadt. Their electricians don't check their work, so my clothes dryer doesn't work after they leave. We can't check the A/C because it's too cold this time of year so I don't even know if it works. The city inspector makes them change the vent on the water heater as part of their failing to pass the city codes. I spend two days off work with corrections and re-inspections. They invoice me an additional $140 and lie to me telling me it's not in their scope when the city inspector told me directly to the contrary. They were responsible for the water heater vent too. Why aren't they up on City Codes? Do they ever pull a permit? I tell them cash this $140 check and I'll never do business with you again. They cashed the check. They wanted me to pay for the job before the job was finished and technically I did because I expected it to pass inspection, and I don't know if the A/C will work. If my company didn't pass inspection I would be so embarrassed I would try to make it up to the client. Instead I get an invoice. I send them a letter outlining my issues, they do not respond. read more

Things started off good: came out in a timely manner, received quote quickly, they were able to get unit installed in 2.5 weeks at the peak of our heat wave. However, the unit they installed had been damaged. No mention of this was made to me when I talked to them over the phone on the day of install. My mom happened to go outside to watch and noticed large dents on the side of the unit. They assured her it was all superficial and not to worry, still no one notified me. When I got home, I could see the dents from the ground (roof top unit). Decided to wait, figured there would be a credit on my bill for damaged product. Received $200 credit for damage and thermostat (they didn't install a new one since current one fine). I thought that was insufficient compensation on an $8000 project. However, was busy getting ready to go out of town and figured I would call when I returned home. But then they charged my credit card 2 weeks after receiving bill for the remaining balance without my permission or discussion with me. I was on vacation with no cell service and now credit card being rejected. Pretty furious they did that (and I think illegal). Had to drive to find cell service and called to have them cancel the charge on my card, since 1) hadn't planned on using credit card for remaining balance, and 2) disagreed with remaining balance. Interrupted what should have been a stress free family vacation. When I returned to town, no phone call from them. Called after 1.5 weeks of not hearing from them. Was informed they had ordered a new panel for the damaged unit and should be here any day. I was a bit confused since no one had talked to me about this, and I was still concerned about a damaged unit being installed. Continued to play phone tag with one of the owners. When we finally touched base, was made clear no additional financial compensation would be provided and I shouldn't worry about a damaged unit as they were sure it was only superficial. I don't know about you, but when I pay almost $8000 for something, I expect it not to be damaged. They came out and installed a new panel, again, without discussing with me. Was also told they would send me a check for $75 for the thermostat. Was quite surprised to then get a bill with the $200 credit removed, to be replaced with the $75 amount. When I called to say I thought a mistake was made, was told no, credit removed since they installed the new panel (which again, never asked me if I wanted nor told me they would remove the credit). Was told I was just determined to be dissatisfied and the balance would remain. Due to the lack of communication, charging my credit card without permission, installing a product they said they damaged and refusing to provide any compensation, and then being told I just wanted to be dissatisfied are the reasons I cannot recommend Brother's Electrical to anyone. read more

After receiving a signed and dated quote to install a new furnace and cooling system, I was telephoned by the owner three days before the scheduled installation. He told me that his son had misrepresented the company by agreeing to install my system during the weekend. He said that because his employees had agreed to work during the weekend, he had to give them time off during the week. He told me that the only fair thing that he could do was either pay them overtime and/or give them time off. He told me that I had to pay an extra eight hundred dollars for this install. When I attempted to speak with the unfairness of me paying after I was given a signed quote, he quickly became patronizing and argumentative. He told me that both he and his son had traveled to Santa Fe (where I live) to give quotes and get a signed contract for free. I told him that this was the cost of doing business. He did not see my point. I asked him if he would split the difference with me. He declined. I told him that he was utilizing a "bait and switch" technique. He did not agree. I will never do business with this company again. I feel that the owner is bad tempered, dishonest, condescending and rude. I wonder how they have been able to stay in business this long. read more

Our 33 year-old-furnace, actually only in use for a bit over 30, finally started offering up its last gasps. We thought the issue might be solved with just a cleaning, so we called a company which offered a $49 service to get that done. Not only did the furnace not appear to be much cleaner after that guy was done, but the pilot light no longer worked. We were told the pilot-light issue was not a cheap fix, but would require at least a $799 part. That might fit, or might not. So we thought, maybe it's time for a new furnace. That company sent a representative whose presentation reminded me of my days in the car business--all the money plus. Just on the surface, the prices seemed ridiculous. We'd gone to a neighbor who is a contractor prior to that presentation; she recommended we speak to Brothers. I have to say the representative from the all-the-money company lost much of his enthusiasm when we told him that we were getting quotes from other companies; my guess is that, once he realized we weren't going to be rolled into a high-profit situation for him, that someone else was coming, his chances of getting a sale took a serious dive. He was right. Well, in the meantime, I checked out Lowes and Home Depot. No furnaces in stock; you can order them online, and they'll recommend a contractor. Golly. It's cold now. Didn't want to wait. Stopped at Samon's, which did have a rather diminutive Chinese (I think) furnace in stock, and a contractor who was there on another mission told me he'd install a furnace for about $1100 less than the quote I got from the car-business refugees. I told him that sounded good, and we exchanged the necessary information. I'd contacted Brothers in the meantime. When I got back home, Vince, one of the owners, came by. First, he told me that a very cheap part--which he had--might, in fact, solve the pilot light issue. Which it did, sort of. Second, he told me that the $799 part was readily available, installed, for $350. Which reinforced my belief that the original company wasn't really interested in servicing our furnace so much as they were creating urgency and sticker-shock in order to sell a new furnace. Then he gave me a quote for a new furnace--a Lennox, not some Chinese stop-gap--completely installed for $500 less than the contractor from Samon's--and more than $1600 less than the first quote! And that was without any bickering, and without me showing them the quote from the first company or telling them about the quote from the contractor at Samon's. Right out of the box, a quality product at a good price. I gave him the go-ahead. He put the cheap part in my old furnace--free of charge--so we didn't have to freeze overnight (he'd committed to installing the new furnace the next day!). Vince and his brother Steve (the owners) came by that next day. Their work was efficient, detail-oriented, and mindful of our household. In particular, it impressed me that they spent about forty minutes after I thought the installation was complete checking on details such as the temperature of the air as it exited the furnace versus the temperature of the air as it entered the furnace, the gas pressure at intake (adjusting it for altitutde!) and doing a thorough cleanup. Both very pleasant, and tolerant of my Spotify redneck music station the whole time. Bottom line is that the furnace is installed professionally, working great, all in short order, by concerned folks who did a thorough, thoughtful, and efficient job at a good price. I don't think we'll ever convert to AC, and I don't know that we'll outlive this furnace. But if either of those things happen, I'm calling Brothers Mechanical again. read more

Acts professionally initially, but when problems occur because of their hasty workmanship and errors, they blame the customer...always. We had them move our return air to the ceiling/roof. Both roof penetrations were done improperly resulting in roof leaks where flashing was improperly installed. Most recently, our entire mechanical & laundry room flooded because of their faulty installation. Tony Brothers came by, never rang bell, talked to one of the workers, left and then called saying we hadn't cleaned a canale. The roofers clearly described to us exactly what Brothers had done wrong. Vent was also improperly sized causing furnace to work harder than it should, and the other end of return air leaked in a big rain 1 year ago from the same faulty workmanship. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY, THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK. This has cost us an additional $2-3000, not to mention the hassle. read more
