Request chimney sweeping. Had them simply ghost me twice. Gave them a second chance and they decided to go do other jobs. I really needed the work done for the winter. They have very bad organization, and would rather argue with me via text. Very poor service. Best avoided. And no, it wasn't raining both days. The owner has been pursuing me across the Internet now for posting a legitimate complaint. She seems determined to start a fight, so you know, now you should REALLY avoid them. These folks came over and in one long day cleaned all the windows and screens (and some storms) in our house and cottage, cleaned out the gutters, and cleaned the chimney as well. Theresa was super efficient, and both of them worked very hard. Two small panes popped out of very old, unstable window sash, but I do not blame them. Would have happened if I were washing them. Disastrous service. They were supposed to clean the windows, but they did it just superficially. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. From afar it looks like good service, but once you get close then you see it is shoddy work. They were supposed to be here for at least 3 hours, but they left after two; they seeemed to be in a hurry. And when I complained, the owner told me that the windows couldn't open, and then that only when they were in the are again they could redo what they did wrong, which is a nice way of saying never. read more

I was extremely pleased with Broomhilda's services. They cleaned my windows, gutters and chimney. They were mindful of my old glass, and very caref of removing the storms. They draped the area in my living room so no soot from the chimney escaped, and let me know when they saw problem areas that I need to address in the future. They made my greenhouse glass sparkle, even though it had drips of gummy old linseed oil on it. all in all, it was a great experience, and I won't hesitate to use them again. read more

Crew of 2 spent 1.5 hours in one small bathroom with a stand up shower and1 sink. Even if bathroom was a total disaster (which it wasn't) it shouldn't take that long especially for professionals. When I came home both girls were in the 2nd bathroom one was cleaning the tub the other was holding the sprayer hose. When I said something to them they split up and started working. They were friendly so I do want to point that out. I would be friendly too if I was getting paid $79 a hour for one bathroom that took 1.5 hours. My conclusion if you don't watch them they will ride the clock. When I messaged the business. Someone called from the company saying that they were probably trying to clean the grout for that length of time. Then to no surprise for additional charge they offer that service too. Comically bad cleaners. Don't hire them unless you want to clean your own house again afterwards. They hardly even try. I vacuumed immediately after they left and had a whole vacuum bag full of dust. They left all the floors visibly dusty (forget mopping), even the areas that I asked them to focus on. Rates are very reasonable, especially for the high level of service provided. We use them for a regular, bi-weekly cleaning service and have also used them to clean the windows in our house, inside and out! They are FABULOUS! Professional, reliable, and always accommodating when we have special or extra requests. The crew works fast but is thorough - the house is fresh and clean after they visit, and we trust them implicitly to work in the house when no one is home. Betsy, the owner, is a dream to work with, she is direct, always responsive, and on top of everything. I spent more money for chimney sweeping than I have in the past. The cleaners spent about half the time the other chimney sweeper spent last year. They gave me a two hour window to wait but we're late. If I hadn't checked in I don't think they were going to alert me. I'm going back to the other company. The WORST home contractor we have ever tried to hire. Communication and scheduling with Betsy was scattered and unprofessional. We tried to hire her two weeks in advance for her chimney sweeping service because we had tenants moving in, and we let her know our job could be done from inside the house, but she canceled repeatedly blaming the weather--because she can't possibly get her whole crew to go out on one job, and the other jobs they'd have to do would be outside...so the fact that our chimney can be cleaned from indoors doesn't matter. We were clear in our communication the whole two+ weeks (the reasons we called so early to schedule the cleaning and why we needed it finished by a certain date), and finally she lied about the weather (as if people can't look at the weather themselves!), which we had to call the final straw. We canceled our appointment. We hired her a couple years ago - her team of two was there for 30 minutes, and charged us over $200, which seems pricy for this service, but this time we didn't even get to see what the service was like because scheduling was such a nightmare. And she acted outraged and offended that we were forced to cancel. With regard to her cleaning services, my parents hired her once and we're very unhappy. Go with anyone but Broom Hilda for chimney sweeping and house cleaning--trust me. read more

I am surprised they are still in business, but it's likely due to the owner's shady practices. When initially texting with her to set-up the move-out cleaning, I had to ask twice what her rates were (and after she confused me with someone else too). She quoted me a price then which seemed reasonable. On the day of the cleaning, I had to text to see if they had arrived as I was at work (they were about 10-15 min late arriving, which was not a huge deal). A few days later, I received a bill via email which was twice the quoted price with a very snide comment indicating that 'it was very dirty - but you obviously knew that.' When I challenged her on the overcharge, she didn't deny it and just said it was due to how dirty the apartment was. If she had called during the appointment and said that the apartment was dirtier than expected, and clarified at that time that they would charge more, I likely wouldn't have had a problem with it. However, it is an extremely shady business practice to do the job, and then double the fee afterwards without consulting the client -- for any type of work that you do. Never had that happen with any cleaning service I've used before -- and I will not be using this service ever again and highly recommend you look elsewhere. Only after this situation happened did a friend let me know about this particular cleaning company & that locals don't use them. Ugh. Oh - and part of my security deposit was taken to cover a couple items that weren't cleaned properly. read more

this was the worst decision of my life to hire them on short notice because I needed help cleaning out my apartment so I could get my landlords approval on a walk-through. The owner was very gracious to send a team on such short notice basically less than 24 hours. For that, I am grateful. However... Their work sucks! My landlord wiped his hand across a cabinet that I wasn't reaching in and his hand was black. Their work was horrible and although I have to pay them, I would never recommend them to anyone. I got some very passive aggressive notes from the owner sounding like many previous reviews... How dirty the place was, and of course you knew how bad it was. I was astonished to make an appointment with this company, leave them detailed instructions - including a long, typed note on the door, and a verbal arrangement with the person running it - and then to have them refuse to clean my house. There is someone running the company, whom you speak with when you call, and she employs people to actually clean. I got a call from the employee about 45 minutes after the cleaning was scheduled. I was working, and I couldn't answer the phone, and she left me a message complaining in a bored voice that she didn't understand what the job was supposed to be or how to get in. I had told the proprietor, and repeated in my note, that all I expected her to do was clean, and where the key was, but there were a few small tasks (e.g. closing storm windows) that I would appreciate it if she could do, but that I totally understood if she couldn't. Apparently the person hired to clean was not even at my house yet when she called, as her employer explained to me in one of the dozen or so texts that followed. She had not even looked for the note, and the boss had not given her any message, and she had contacted me at work instead of asking her employer when she didn't understand, before getting there, what the job was. They (employee & boss) contacted me repeatedly and urgently, saying they couldn't get in, didn't know how to find the key - I had explained all this at length in advance and again in the typed note I left on the door, and I was working. The proprietor could tell I was impatient, but let me clarify: this was all via text messages, in which I did not lose my temper or curse or anything like that - just sounded - understandably - impatient at being interrupted repeatedly at work when I had spent a considerable amount of time explaining everything in advance, both on the phone and in writing, and had answered the text messages repeating information - more than once - about the location of the key and the note. And then the person running the company announced they were going to just leave, "because I didn't sound very happy and maybe that would be better." I am giving them 2 stars instead of one because, of course, they didn't clean for me - maybe they can do a good job, I don't know. Personally, after this happened, I just looked on Craigslist, found 3 good candidates right away, and hired one of them, who did a fine job (and got paid the whole amount, instead of whatever much lower wage this company pays its employees). What stayed with me about this encounter was how passive aggressive the proprietor was. That happens to be something that truly drives me crazy. I'm from NYC, and I do encounter this sometimes in Ithaca. It's a cultural difference, I guess, but I'll summarize this way: if you don't like passive aggressive people, I recommend you stay away from this company. And if you aren't free to be interrupted with questions you've already answered when you are at work, I would also not recommend this company. The men and women who cleaned my house on several occasions were very nice, but they all smelled of smoke, which lingered for days afterwards and made the house seem unclean. They did a terrible job dusting, missing entire surfaces, which obviously didn't get wiped down either. One time they didn't even clean the shower floor, which really needed it at the time. Maybe they do a good job with very dirty houses. The proprietor seemed confused half the time about when she was supposed to clean and asked me every time I set up an appointment where my house was located. I would look back at the texts we exchanged and just copy and paste the same info again and again. Not hiring them now that I used up my gift certificate. read more

We used Broom Hilda's service for cleaning out the old family home to get it ready for sale. We were quite impressed with the difference before and after the 'deep clean'. I hadn't remembered the hardwood floors ever looking so bright and the fabric dye stains in the sink that I had thought were impossible to remove were gone! I would have liked a little more follow up with some parts as some things did not get completed - that is probably just as much my fault as theirs. PLEASE do yourself a favor and avoid this company. when the cleaners came, as far as i could tell, the only thing they did was scrub the kitchen sink and one bathtub. they were supposed to fully clean the fridge and cabinets and didn't touch them. and then they charged me a fortune! when i told the owner that they didn't clean the fridge and cabinets and that the price should be lower, she said, oh, it's still that amount because the rest of the house was so dusty. on top of that, an item was stolen from my home. owner did nothing to rectify the situation. read more
