I took frames to have lens made. During my initial consultation, I was provided an estimate. When I ordered the lens, there was a "mistake" and the cost doubled. After one month, I called to see if they were ready, as no one from the shop had notified me. When I went to pick them up, they were the wrong prescription. Bad experience from start to finish. Thankfully, they did issue a refund for the full amount. read more

My vision insurance through our new company changed and my regular eye doc wasn't IN NETWORK so I figured I would give them a try so I could get the most out of my insurance. After wearing them most of my life, I haven't been able to wear contacts in a few years due to discomfort. I decided to give it another shot. They informed me of a much improved contact lens since my last attempt. Made for astigmatism, corrects near and far, just what I needed. The exam was fast but thorough and the fit was flawless. I am very pleased with Dr. Phyfer and his staff, including Meredith W.( I didn't catch the other names). This place is okay, but I was really not impressed. I had my contact lens fitting and after a few blinks, I told the assistant that my vision was still blurry, she told me I should try them out for the week. I said I'd rather take care of it now, she told me we could fix that during the follow-up a week later. Feeling like my needs had been brushed off, I decided to get a second opinion elsewhere and called in Brooks Eye Center to email my prescription/notes. They told me they needed it signed off but would take care of it. I called again 5 days later, they said they were still working on it. After the weekend passed, I called again, they said they would get it to me. Months later, it never came. So, without any doctor's notes/prescription information I figured my only affordable option would be to return there again to reassess my vision. 5 months had passed, and the receptionist who answered the phone told me my appointment would cost $20-$25. I got up early and made the drive into town just for a receptionist to say, "Sorry, your appointment will be $225 because we haven't seen you for 8 months." (Btw, my appointment was 5 months prior, in February). I said, "I was told it would be $25?" And she said, "Yeah, it's $225, I'm sorry." It would have been really nice to have been notified of this before I drove over there. I called after leaving, to get my contact prescription emailed to me. They finally sent me something, but it was a glasses prescription, not contacts. So, all in all, I would not recommend - I did not feel valued as a customer and my needs weren't met in the slightest. read more

The staff at Dr. Brooks' office is unprofessional and not trained to deal with young children or children with disabilities. I intentionally scheduled an appointment early in the morning (9 am) so that my special needs 4 year old would not have to wait. We waited for more than 20 minutes, but she actually did fine in the waiting room. However, when the assistant began trying to discuss with my daughter about how she could have a goodie bag and a treat if she let her take a picture of her eyes, the tantrums began. I explained (just as I had mentioned when making the appointment) that she doesn't communicate well or understand cause and effect. The response from the assistant: "my nephew is autistic so I know what I'm doing." After several minutes of my child being upset, she says "I'll leave so she can calm down." No one ever came back. An hour and half later, no doctor came in and no screening occurred. Don't waste your time with this provider. read more

Last night, I broke my eyeglass frames. Even in the best of times, this is a major inconvence. Brooks Eye Center understood how important my issue was and responded with an extraordinary solution which was beyond my expectations. I recommended Brooks Eye Center to my Aunt. She was leaving for Cali in a few days. They lady said her glasses will be ready in one day. The lady also went in the back and confirmed it. My Aunt paid over $300 for her prescription along with transitional lenses. She need/wanted them for the trip. She waited until Friday to call. Another lady stated that she has to wait 7-10 days and then she changed it to 3-5 days. Needless to say. Her glasses wasn't ready and no one apologized for lying. It wasn't an inconvenience. It was a flat out lie that the glasses would be ready in one day. We both will take out business elsewhere. read more

Dr. James Brooks has been my primary and singular eye doctor for a long time now. After experiencing great care by him in the office, I assumed that he conducted himself in the same manner through his real estate business. I rented a room from Dr. Brooks and found he is not a landlord anyone should encounter. He lets his 20 year old daughter and deranged wife "call the shots." They did not provide me with a lease nor did they require one of my roommates to pay rent on time. Their daughter lived in the same house as me as well. After a few months of paying bills on time and in full while the other roommate was allowed to build up overdue bills amounting to $1500, the daughter demanded I be kicked out and I was but without proper eviction notice. I was told at noon on a Saturday that I needed to be moved out by midnight. I was in the middle of my first semester of sophomore year at the University of Mississippi and Dr. James Brooks kicked me out with 12 hours' notice and absolutely no reason for removal. Without a lease, I was out of options. This man does not know how to conduct a property leasing agency and you should be warned that he does not follow eviction laws and does not have a care in the world if his tenants have a place to live. He also promised work throughout the house and did not hold true to these promises. He also promised upkeep of the grass/yard and did not keep that up. I ended up with a slight tear in my rotator cuff attempting to mow the lawn between studying and working in a restaurant on the Square. This man is a crooked property owner and it should be known that he does not follow laws on property leasing!! read more
