So I have lived a short walk away for so many months and never tried this place until recently. I…read morehad heard great things about this place but for whatever reason never got around to trying it out. AMAZING! I had no idea what I wanted to try as everything looked great. I asked the lady helping me which sausages were the best and a worker was putting sausages in the case said "Everything!!" He was right. Everything we tried was soooo good! We tried a bunch of different sausages, the beef bourguignon pie, and the shepherds pie. The beef bourguignon was for sure the stand out item. For the next few days my husband kept talking about the pies here because he liked them so much. Great service and wonderfully delicious products! Must try!!

Someday I'm going to marry Oprah and I'll be a stay-at-home husband…read more I'll say to Oprah, "we should buy a place in Kensington/Notting Hill." And she'll look down the back of the sofa cushions and procure me a giant wad of cash to do so. And then I will spend my days grilling tasty meat snacks, procured from C Lidgate. Almost everything they sell is so meticulously prepped that all you have to do is bake/cook/grill. Or if that's too difficult, you can buy a pre-made pie. If Holly Golightly was a carnivore, she would have stalked the windows here and not Tiffany's. The fare here is presented like fine jewelry. That's why I gotta marry Oprah. It's simply uncouth for me to go in and order just a single lamb chop.

The butchers are very friendly, know their stuff and seem to like questions and recommendation requests. These chaps do trade/industry customers, but the store front is based on the busy walk up business by regular customers like you and me. You get a far shorter supply chain without the mass processing centres (and what can go along with that), and the meat sold here is handpicked by an expert butcher and cut in-store which delivers superior quality meat. They have a large selection of meats, and not all of it is on display, so ask if you don't see it. As you can imagine, cutting out several 'middle-men' also means all those saved margins are passed onto you. They also do sell small portions, if you want a skirt of beef, or two t-bone steaks, a single medium chicken, etc. But I've always bought in bulk (2-5kg), then divided it into single meal portions and then into the freezer, and suggest this for maximum savings and minimal trips to Smithfield Butchers. For example, large, good quality skinless, boneless chicken breasts here cost about the same as the basic brands of big name grocers which are small, pumped full of water and inferior quality. The 'steak meats' (e.g. rib eye, fillets, sirloin) are about half the price of big name grocers, and since you're buying a 1-4kg slab, you can cut your steak as thick as you want! Some of the best steaks I've had came from Smithfield Butchers, and the best Christmas Turkey ever! If you can make it to Smithfield Meat Market, this one is a no-brainer.

I love this place! Not only is the butcher fantastic, but they also know their wines and cheeses…read more My wife and I started going to the butcher after it was converted from Rosslyn Delicatessen a few months ago. Little did we know that it was going to become our favourite place in Hampstead. Each Saturday from 1:00 - 4:00 they offer a complimentary wine tasting. Through this event, we've gotten to know Avie, one of the partners that is responsible for distributing the wine. Avie is incredibly knowledgeable about wine and always makes a wonderful recommendation. He also recommends in-store goods that pair nicely with the wine. I've enjoyed tasting the foie gras, chicken parfait, chirizo, peppercorn salami, etc. - all of which are affordable and available in small portions (100-200 grams). We've also had the opportunity to meet Keiko, who works behind the cheese counter. She is equally as knowledgeable about the cheeses. As you can tell from this review, we've gotten to know the staff - and can't say enough positive things. They are all very helpful, kind, and the quality of goods at the Hampstead Butcher is unmatched. Tip: They have a great selection of Italian reds. I recommend the 2008 Poggiobello Pinot Nero from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Take home a bottle of this wine and pair it with some Manchego cheese and peppercorn salami.

At the back of the store there is a cheese counter with a nice selection of British and European cheeses, as well as a well stocked wine cellar. In addition to all of this they sell vegetables and other ingredients that you might need. I enjoy seeing small local business succeed and I am happy that this place is doing well.
