Melrose has had it's ups and downs over time. Sure, with Covid raging there's a current hardship happening to businesses. The struggle is indeed real. But after taking root in 97 and closing in on 25 years this store has mainstay status. In addition to being a full service skate shop they have some street wear fashion goods as well as their own branded tees,hoodies and beanies.with graphics that at times make a lawyer nervous. But that's the edgy fun vibe that is in BP's DNA. And the loyal locals wouldn't have it any other way. Parking is relatively easy yet keep an eye peeled for the inevitable sketch street people that is LA. Great line of shoes on display as well. Unlike the bad BP that has massive oil leaks, this is a BP you can count on for consistency. More of that please. read more

If I could give these guys a 0 I would. One of the worst clown skateshops in LA, actually the only clown store in LA. Owner, operator, sales person and cashier all wrapped into 1. Dom bas the worst customer service skills I have ever seen from a store owner. The pointing fingers and the anger just isn't a good look, skaters are known to be "chill" and this guy is far from it. Stay away and go support some real shops that actually give a crap about a customer. Pawnshop skate shop, XB, those are real skate shops. My son always comes to this shop just to look around because his school is close by. One afternoon he went with his friends coz his friend wants to buy a skateboard. Always super nice staff and helpful. As they were leaving, Curtis noticed that one of my son's friends did not have a skateboard. He hooked him up with a skateboard!! First i called to ask about donating shoes that were ruined instead of throwing them away . There are so many homeless people out here where they would really appreciate the shoes . placed an order 2.5 weeks ago.... USPS says it was never shipped to them from BP....they said they received notice that they would have a bunch of orders coming in from them and they never received any of them......... I called and spoke with someone at BP who said 40-50 orders just disappeared and no one knows where they are, " but they went out and it's not us, its USPS for being behind "........ how something cannot be tracked in todays world is odd to me.... but here we are days from Xmas, and ordered way in advance, and now there's not enough time for the items to ship from Ca to NJ. USPS said it's technically possible that someone in California goofed and didn't update the system but its not very likely.....This will be the only time we ever try to order from this company. I see others here are also having the same issues.... if we receive the items i will revise my feedback but for now, id sa its a cluster over there and ordering online seems to be something they are not currently handling well. read more

I love this store because the employees were so nice and friendly. I actually went there because my favorite band Slipknot was doing a meet and greet. I was the first one there I mean hours early and the employees let me use the bathroom etc . They all had smiles on their faces and handled a huge crowd very well. I just want to thank them for giving me the best day of my life . Slipknot even took a picture by the back window of my car which is the band members. Thank you so much . This place is run by a circus. Ordered a pair of shoes and they proceeded to cancel my order and keep $30 as a "bot" fee minutes after ordering. They never got back to me and this happened to multiple other people. Rather than respond back to my calls or emails they taunted me by posting my (and others) information that they had stolen from. This review will be based on Blitz and Brooklyn Projects pre Christmas "blowout sale". Advertisement posted on Instagram stated they would have yeezys 350 BOOST starting at $250 and would additionally be raffling a pair. Apart from opening an hour late(advertisement said 12pm) I waited 2 and half hours just to come and find out that you were required to purchase an item in order to receive a raffle ticket for a chance to purchase a pair! And the raffle wasn't going to start until 6pm which was 5 hours later. You want us to stay there all day!!?? Whoa! They completely left that part out! Just bought my husband a new set up for our anniversary and Dominique (hope I spelled that right) the owner was the most helpful and humble guy ever. Not only is he a solid owner but such a great mentor to all of his employees and skaters that came in. He was just the best, I can't say enough. He personally put together the complete I bought and helped hand pick everything. This was great because I know little to nothing about skateboards and my husband is the most picky guy ever when it comes to his board. He was beyond stoked, to say the least. BUT... the salesperson literally said "hey bro, can you not unfold those shirts to look at them? I don't wanna have to fold them all over again" hahaha are you kidding me? SESSIONS: I remember hanging out at Session, my local skate shop all day, flipping through magazines, and looking at the new artwork on the decks that just came in, saving up money to buy the new shirts and shoes. We would all roll over to Fish Banks, our skate park after we left Session.....leaving the car running so we could blast our music in the parking lot. Those were the over the days when you could see Green Day and Operation Ivy for $5 a show. When you would draw your own fliers in sharpies and photocopy them. Booming our car stereos smoking cigarettes, watching the boys skate all afternoon until dark. Brooklyn projects reminds me of a cleaned up version of a local neighborhood skate shop. Sleek collection of Nike SB's, an extensive line, Obey clothing for men and women, and Chocolate (an oldie that I'm glad is still around). Skateboarding used to be punk rock, a lifestyle that annoyed the hell out of society, which is why I was drawn to it. Anything counter culture still makes me smile. If we all thought and looked the same what type of world would this be? Thanks Brooklyn Projects for the trip down memory lane. Thanks for keeping that culture alive for the kiddies. The Bottom Line: -Salespeople: friendly, approachable, receptive, and knowledgeable -Store aesthetics: beautiful and organised -Price: moderate and reasonable (If you're new to boarding, you might feel a little hesitant handing them your cash/card. But, I assure you, once you try your board, you'll know it was worth every dollar!) The Bucks: -Antihero street deck + Thunder trucks = $135 -Soft wheels (for a cruiser feel) = $10 -Shock pads = $5 The Story: As part of my summer-before-college bucket list, I promised myself I'd learn to ride a board to compensate for my inability to ride a bicycle. My neighbour happily gave me his used longboard, but as a short girl (I'm 5' 3") I found it difficult to do anything other than ride in a straight line. After scouring Yelp, I decided to pay a visit to Brooklyn Projects. And boy, was it a wise decision. As someone who doesn't fit the skater mold, I thought I wouldn't be taken seriously. Au contraire! Monica, who had been organising clothes, dropped what she was doing and showed me to the deck gallery. She asked me if I was looking for anything specific. "A board that I can use to get around campus." It was pretty obvious that I'm just an amateur, but Monica patiently talked me through the process of choosing custom parts. After she let me step onto several decks and completes, I decided to purchase a street deck with a nice Dr. Seuss design and a set of soft wheels. While Monica was working her magic, some customers came in. Another salesperson, Sid (I /think/ that's his name... sorry if I'm wrong!), offered to take over. He asked me about my skating history, and I shyly told him I hadn't done much other than snowboarding and longboarding. I also pointed out I was deathly afraid of cracks in the sidewalk, to which he suggested buying shock pads for only $5. I agreed, and he kindly continued asking me questions about myself while he worked on my board. After he was done, Sid had me stand on the newly assembled board in order to gauge how much to tighten the screws on the trucks. He graciously held out his hand for me to grab as I stepped on the board, giving me a few tips on how to balance myself (switching from a longboard to a skateboard isn't difficult, but the two definitely feel different). After he tightened the trucks a little more, I stepped onto the board again. It immediately felt like my own little vehicle, custom-made to reflect everything from my height to my design preference to my purpose of usage. I thanked Monica and Sid and made my way home on my new board. It glides perfectly on both cement and asphalt, and when I make turns, I don't feel like I'm about to fall off. I can't wait to cruise around campus and the Bay Area in a month. These guys and gals know what they're doing and love what they're doing. Just stopped by Brooklyn Projects off Melrose and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the friendliest person you'll ever come upon, Monica greeted me with her warmth smile and right away offered to assist me. Monica is very knowledgeable and very helpful (goes the extra mile,). She really knows what shes doing at Brooklyn Projects, Monica knows all the latest Nike SB and skate world stuff as in gear and skateboard sizes and whats trending. She even offered me to skate the mini ramp in the back, which you wont be able to experience at any other skateshop. She even made my gf feel so so comfortable inside the shop, very patient and friendly, great vibes My Overall experience is a 10 out 10. Dom really hired NOTHING BUT THE BEST. so if your ever on melrose make sure to stop by and ask for Monica. My friend ended up purchasing a $120 Obey jacket for $60 just for bringing a large jug of water. There were a few models outside the store signing posters saying "Thanks for helping!" Don't know about the Skate aspect of the business, but I paid a visit to pick up some sneakers. You see I'm a Sneaker connoisseur. These guys have a Nike SB account, and carry some of the hottest kicks around. I was able to find a few pairs that I liked. Unfortunately two of the pairs was the last they had in the shop and it was the display pieces. They discounted both pairs for me. Cool place. read more

I work right near here, and I love the vibe that this shop brings to Melrose. It's a nice shop, albeit small, with a cool selection of decks, t-shirts, shoes, etc. And pssssssttttt.... there's a halfpipe in the back of the shop that's being skated most days. I have no idea about what it takes to skate it, but I think it's a "secret". Worst case scenario, go around the back in the alley and you can watch the skaters. I went there the other day to 'git some shoes. The workers seem like chill guys... not the usual "you better prove yourself as a badass to buy anything here"- types of people that usually work at hip skate shops. i HATE places like that.
