Great place to grab lunch and snacks for myself and coworkers. I go here almost every day as my office is 3 blocks away... staff remember my usual order: spicy chicken burrito with veggies! Simple, filling, and delicious. Most of all the lunch here is affordable, typically under 10 bucks. They switch up the prepped meals and offer a bunch of sandwich options. I might also recommend the cheeseburger but ask that they put your fries in a paper bag versus a container otherwise they will be soggy from the humidity ;) These guys deserve at least an avg rating of 4. Actually, I didn't put up much of a fight--- especially after I witnessed the majesty of Brooklyn Natural Foods. Brooklyn Natural embodies the spirit of East Williamsburg. Walking through the neighborhood is like going through an art gallery and the side of this building is one of the exhibition's centerpieces. Their groceries are very diversified to fit the needs of all the colorful people of this thriving part of Brooklyn. Their sandwiches are very reasonable. When I ordered the mozzarella sandwich (under 7 bucks) it was stuffed to the brim with fresh, milky mozz--- they must have used half a giant ball. I had to save the other half for another meal because it was so enormous. They charge $4.99 for Kombucha though... that's not right. They charge $2.99 for Ronnybrook organic drinkable yogurt, that's farmer's market pricing! Nice. The pricing is incongruous... weird. This place has wonderful, clean benches outside to eat your yummies on. I saw Briana M. draggin' on a cigarette ruing the day because she had to get up mad early. Just walking distance from the hostel I was staying at. This place is comparable to Whole Foods, except maybe 1/10 the size. It has everything you need down to the basic health food items. It was late at night, and because of my usual self, I had to take a run to buy random refreshments to top off the night. The location surrounding this business seems kind of shady, especially at night. Upon walking in the store, it was like I've entered a different world. This was my very first night ever in New York City, so I'm a bit mesmerized at how different every turn of the corner seems to be. The store inside seemed to be a haven from the shadiness from the outside, but I guess the area in general is safe because everyone walking the sidewalks next to me didn't seem to want to kill me. They have kombucha tea, produce, non-GMO, and a bunch of organic stuff. I am not a health food freak, but I am pretty glad that there's a Whole Foods-type store open 24/7 here in Brooklyn. Yes, a health food store that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I didn't expect to see Brooklyn Natural Foods to pop up when I typed "convenience stores" on the Yelp app at 12AM. Everyone wishing they'd close down: just shut it. You can make the choice not to go there, and that's fine, but the neighborhood is better off with it than without. Open up a competing place next door and run them out of business if it makes you feel better. There's always that natural foods shop next to the Montrose station, they have a similar selection, I just rarely made it over there even though it was only another few blocks. Sure, it's not a good idea to do your grocery shopping here, as many items are very very overpriced. Like a bottle of Thai Kitchen Sweet Red Chili Sauce that goes for $5 here goes for less than $2 at Trader Joe's (their brand, but the same exact stuff). The Reeds Ginger Brews, $2 or more here per each, you can get a 4-pack at TJ's for less than $4. Emergen-Cs that cost 8 to 12 bucks a box at TJs, 12 to 16 and up here. And so on. But it's a great place for a sandwich or wrap from the deli counter, their empanadas are good, and they are open much, much later than any other grocery-ish store for miles. (That counts for something when you don't want to make a big trek into the city, or when the L train is on shuttle bus service, or when you've just come out of the subway station and it's late.) It's also not as skeevy as a lot of the other supermarket/bodega interiors nearby. Their exterior is painted by a local grafitti artist (though it has since been defaced by others), and the interior is pretty clean. They also have an impressive selection of beers and other beverages that you just won't find anywhere else in the neighborhood (maybe that other health food store at the Montrose L stop). Oh! And: They deliver. Tell me it's not worth something to have someone available to bicycle to your apartment at 10PM to bring you a sandwich, beverages, snacks, beer, Tylenol, Emergen-C, toilet paper, or cat food. So take the good with the bad, Schwickers. Use this place for what it's good for and find alternatives for the stuff they suck at. read more

I work in that vague Bushwick/Not quite Williamsburg but they call it Williamsburg area over by The Loom. There are very few places over there to eat that accept credit cards, so my coworkers and I are always trying to expand our options. Twice now, I've gotten food from here and thought, WTF? For example, they have plantains. You know, those things that every West Indian or Latino person eats? Yeah, not that hard. Let them ripen, boil 'em, freakin' delicious. One of my favorite things to eat. My husband bought me a container from Brooklyn Natural. It had honey and blueberries mixed in. Who *does* that?!?! Better yet, *why* would you do that? In all my years, I've have never had something so *wrong*. Plus the plantain was hard. Blows my mind. Both times I've had a hot meal from this place, I couldn't finish it. Their chicken is always sweet, like its been glazed in simple syrup and I was left trying not to gag. The pasta was, and I kid you not, tossed in italian dressing. It's basically someone waking up, seeing what they have in their cupboards and playing a game of "I wonder if people will eat this". One angry little star because my boyfriend and I were buying a few things to make dinner when a guy comes up to the register and asks the person ringing us up if he has any beer for $2. Food in NYC is expensive. I've been here two days and have realized I am going to go broke just living. Never mind the expensive purses, jet setting lifestyle, and break the bank dinners I have 3/7 days a week, I am going to go broke in NYC just trying to feed myself (aka cooking at home) and pay rent. When it's 9 pm and you realize you didn't buy all the things you needed at the regular grocery store and you haven't eaten dinner yet, you will thank God allmighty and your lucky stars that there are places like Brooklyn Natural Foods. It's right around the corner, the dude cooks up yellow rice and meat and potatoes and you don't mind paying $7 for a small bottle of vegetable oil. Yes, vegetable oil. Not olive oil. Olive oil is like $9 and its about the size of a can of hairspray. I took a moment to reflect on all the things I could buy at Costco for $7-9 bucks. 24 rolls of TP, 18 rolls of paper towels, a gallon of olive oil, a lb of potstickers... Basically stuff that will last me 6 months. The $7 oil at Brooklyn Natural Foods will probably last 3-4 weeks. Ahh, but we didn't even complain about the price. Convenience is priceless. So off we went back to our humble abode (really we didn't buy anything healthy at the Natural Foods store). This is the Fiji Water of corner stores. Overpriced mediocre crap. If you actually drink Fiji Water (and think the Artesian fairies purify your tummy and make it taste better), then you deserve to be ripped off/become a regular. Pros are that they are 24/7, have a self-serve coffee counter that's $1.25 for a large coffee, and.....I'm really trying. Oh right, they're around the block. If they weren't the only 24/7 store around, I probably wouldn't give them my business. While I can understand there's a price for convenience, my loathe for them also comes from their decision not to stock "regular" food items. Yes, this is a "health foods" store. However, if this is the only store around, carry altenative options. I'm not saying to put bacon next to the tofu, but STAPLES. I ran in because I needed salt once. Not kosher salt, not sea salt, not I-can't-believe-it's-not-salt salt. When I asked an employee for regular salt, he looked at me like I just asked for glycerin nitrate. Same with butter, white bread, seasonings.... Cons are shoddy organic food, extremely slim pickings of "regular" food, HORRIBLE iced coffee (every time, how can this be screwed up?), $10 card minimum, hidden ATM at the back of the store, and REIT shameless markup of items. Save yourself the money and walk one block up (on Grattan), new REAL bodega corner store opened up last month. And they're open till MIDNIGHT. UPDATE: I may have jinxed it. The coffee is now $1.75. Its really nice to have such a good grocery store nearby. They have a lot of good stuff. I know a lot of people are complaining about the prices on here, but I dont think it is overpriced for the quality and considering that we are buying from something locally owned, and not some huge chain that benefits from economies of scale. Since I'm a severe health nut, I mainly come to Brooklyn's Natural for fruit, the occasional head of lettuce, or an avocado when I am stuck at home and I'm out of stock since the last time I was in Manhattan doing my shopping. I'm never disappointed by the quality of the cut-up watermelon or mango-- always ripe and tasty. I can count on them for some of the best avocados (conventional and organic), pretty much always in stock if not always ones which are ready to eat. If I ever get in one of those phases where I break from the good habits, this store has an array of delicious packaged treats-- Greens+ bars, brownies, Rice Dream moon pies, etc. I come here too to get the distilled water which is vital to my diet. And having looked around the store, I can attest to the excellent selection of products in general. The girls at the register are always so sweet, despite the annoying robotic impulse to bag everything, even the gallon bottle of water-- hello, the bottle already comes with a convenient carrying handle! Also, if they know you and you're short 5 or 10 cents, they give you a break. I don't whine over the prices-- I'm very grateful for this store just around the corner, and happily support the thriving of this business. However, I would welcome a similar store to compete with this one in the neighborhood. read more

Look, here's the deal: If you live near here, it's convenient. Right next to the train..you'll end up eating here more often than you should, and you'll buy groceries here once in a while because you feel too lazy to hop a train to union square and end up spending 10 bucks on milk and eggs. The food made-to-order is pretty great drunk food. You'd be challenged to spend more than 10 bucks on a meal. Huge drink selection, lots of snacks, good sandwiches. Try the mexican (avacado, chicken, fresh mozz, mayo on a hero). Obviously the reviews on here are teetering between hipsters who don't care about spending too much money because the place is called "Brooklyn's Natural" and hipsters who realized that other hipsters like it and became too hip to like it anymore. For those of us who live near Brooklyn Natural, it's a sort of lifeline. It's too expensive to be useful as a place to buy groceries, but it's the only place in town and sells beer by the bottle, bananas by the pound, and stays open all the time. Those of you new to the hood: The place on Morgan by the train isn't much cheaper, but it sells conventional stuff like Cheerios. Regular delis exist on Flushing and Bushwick Ave and there's a supermarket on Knickerbocker and Starr street. read more

Say what you will about the overpriced groceries, but I will not hear a single bad word about the sandwiches! I discovered the $5 brie sandwich while interning at 3rd Ward, and would make the 15-minute trek just about every day so I could enjoy its cheesy, avocado-y, sprouty goodness. Between the selection, the prices, and the fact that you can get them at any hour of the day, I'd say those sandwiches are the best deal within a few miles.
