Parking fills up quickly. They have an overflow lot a few blocks away, but it's an uphill walk to get back to the park. It's a great place to have a picnic. Lots of families and kids. We ate lunch at the cafe, but weren't super impressed by the food. The chipotle chickpeas were bland. The paper menus also didn't match what was actually available at the register. The line to order was quite long, but the wait for the food wasn't the worst. They had lots of seating indoors and a nice outdoor patio with more tables. We walked a few of the trails. Most were unpaved. We managed fine with a stroller, but the paths were a bit rocky. To see several sections, you need to climb stairs so a stroller was not the most convenient. The view of the Hudson, from both the upper and lower terraces, is wonderful and great for taking pictures. It was spring so they had tulips in bloom. Their shady grove of trees was cool to check out. I also loved the upper gardens.

I was immediately welcomed by the staff, who remembered my name and checked in on me throughout my visit. Members from the neighborhood were hanging out, discussing the upcoming event closing, their churches, and poetry slams. The exhibit I went to see was expansive and beautiful. Truly exceptional art focusing on amazing black souls and black bodies. Harlem is full of soul and will welcome anyone who wants to come. This gallery is worth a stop, and I'll be back now that I know how awesome it is! PS: it's free!

The Gbedemah 's labor of love in the birth of Kente Royal Gallery focuses on community building by stressing the importance of returning to Africa + using traditions to help us continue to move forward into the future. How telling and empowering a message! Kente Royal Gallery is located in the one of the most mecca focused, deeply rooted and vastly rich African and African-American Historical places - Harlem, NY. The gallery is also cool because it is right next to a delicious eatery that I have dined at numerous times- Ponty Bistro! Visiting Kente Royal Gallery to view fabulous artwork and then going to Ponty Bistro's for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner is a good day/evening outing experience. Kente Royal Gallery has an easily accessible entrance with large front windows so that passerby will want to eagerly walk in and view the artwork and goods inside. We had the pleasure of going to Kente Royal Gallery last month to view the "Fire + Soul.: 100 Years of Harlem" Art Exhibition that was there from 12/3/21 -1/3/21. We happened to catch it the day before the final day and it was such an amazing exhibit! Artwork on display were from Artists including: Anthony Boone, Khalid Sabree (focus on Jazz + The New Harlem Renaissance), Sophisticatedcookie, Rudy Collins (focus on Black Influentia/Prominent Figures like James Baldwin), Ricky Day (focus on Harlem Brownstone Architecture - Harlem Scenery), Magdala Charles (focus on Female Empowerment + Freedom), etc. My favorite masterpieces at this exhibit were those created by Artist Daryl Daniels that focused on everyday people and the illustrations of children on the bus were so cool! Artist Amber Lodman discussed her artistic inspirations and detailed the process of how she creates her beautiful artwork. Ranging from, colorful, bold Harlem Afrocentric pieces to Minimalist Pieces, everything was gorgeous. Special thanks to Owners Phyllis and Dodji Gbedemah for their kindness and it was truly nice to meet them. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, masks and social distancing are stressed and everyone vwalking throughout the gallery seemed respectful of these requests. Kente Royal Gallery has a gofundme page - gf.me/u/y25zzp in order to raise funds for their ongoing efforts for assistance in during the pandemic.
