Seems the staff did not clarify exactly when it was to start - that it was about 1 1/2 hrs. long and then a question and answers session followed. Note; you need to go to 3rd floor to get entrance. Something was said about having a ticket though we did not know about any tickets- but gained entry as there were seats available. Lengthy documentary was of select black women in France and their views. Seeing one exhibit and knowing the length of the movie and question and answer would have helped. While the "Met" was open until 9 those of us who had to travel to and from the City found it it too late. Or to even catch a bite at the nearby cafe which was closed when we came out much less try to add a visit at a church or other venue, all in one day. With easy connections of travel to and from, the weather windy but not raining it still was a very nice way to spend some time in the City and an opportunity to see the exhibit of culture. It is located in the sculpture courtyard of Westbeth Artists Housing, (entrance through Bank or Bethune Streets). Westbeth also host lectures and rent their gallery for events. I participated as a feature spoken word performer for a annual poetry marathon, "Alternative New Year's Day Spoken Word/Performance Extravaganza 2025." I am grateful, honored and exuberant to be a feature participant of this annual spoken word performance marathon. The space is gargantuan despite the event was full it did not feel crowded. I did not have a problem locating a seat and I was not crammed with my seat neighbor like rush hour on a NYC subway. LED white lighting made the art gallery very bright which I admire in a art gallery to view art in bright light for the definite underwriting in its original form, without incandescent lighting to distort artwork's appearance. The outdoor courtyard contains art sculpture for public viewing. Facilities are available and clean. I did not interact with the Westbeth Gallery staff as I did not see any upon my entrance, thus no comment for customer service. This gallery is located between Washington Street & West Street in West Village, near West Side Highway (NYS Route 9A). It is nearly inaccessible by mass transit as the nearest subways are the A/C/E/L at Eighth Avenue and East 14th Street. Following the subways subsequently travel continue are the MTA buses that stop at Abingdon Square are the M11, M12 and northbound M20 buses, and M14A's last stop is one short block before Abingdon Square. Four stars due to the inaccessibility via mass transit. I spent $20.00 (including tax and gratuity) hailing a NYC Taxi from the A train at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue to reach this gallery as my destination. I am a non-driver and the MTA NYC Transit is how I navigate my travels throughout New York City.

Featuring two exhibits when I visited, one entitled peep show and the other Pistoletto I must admit I was rather taken aback by the frankly graphic nature of Peep Show, though certainly not offended - but rather intrigued and quite impressed by the photography displayed at Pistoletto. All told the exhibit contained about 2/3 as much art as Neue and 1/4 as much as Guggenheim - and was $10 and $18 cheaper than each, respectively - and I enjoyed the James staff and approach much more. On par with any of the Chelsea Galleries and better than most - and free.

I take paintings pretty much for face value, rarely reading accompanying plaques. Not so with photography. ICP's current exhibit features Edward Burtynsky and Sheida Soleimani. Both very different, both fascinating with subjects worth reading about as you take in their photographs. Gallery space is impressive, located on the second and third floors. There's a coffee shop and gift store -- primarily books -- on the ground level. Admission is $18 for adults, with discounted rates for seniors and military. If you obtain tickets through NYC Culture Pass, there's no charge. You may see two addresses, one on Essex Street, the other 84 Ludlow. The gallery is on Ludlow, between Delancey and Broome.

The space is beautiful but I understand they're rebuilding the space to be even better. It's our go-to place to see when we visit NYC. We've seen incredible pieces by Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and Richard Prince (Prince and Basquiat paintings and photo are in my listed images for this gallery). We love this place.
