Visited Bronx Community College today for the First time. Living in the area for years and never knew this was here by the trees of the Major Deegan. The campus is exquisite so much history in the architecture. You really can't comprehend this is in the Bronx. This use to be the old NYU Campus many years ago. It's like time stops here the chaos around you just stops doesn't even feel like you're in the Bronx for a second. I'm so happy my son chose this school for his College. Please for the love of God DO NoT attend this school. I'm in a shelter and was denied application fee waiver and made to feel less than a person by the admissions staff over the phone ONLy. My in person interaction with the admissions staff was informative. Guess my financial aid is not good enough (LOL) Truly disappointed I recommend Delaware State and Delaware technical college I've attended both absolutely GREAT!!!! read more

I have not taken any classes here, but I did recently attend an event the Bronx Community College was hosting. I ran in the Run The Bronx 10K race here. The start and finish was right on the main campus grounds, along with the festival area. The public buildings that were utilized for bag check, registration, and race bib pickup were pretty old and worn looking. The bathrooms were clean but also showing their age. In fact, all of the buildings looked like this and could use an upgrade for sure. Some, such as the library building, has that ornate gilded era design that is beautiful, while others look like correctional center buildings. The grounds themselves were fairly well maintained and taken care of. Nice lawn areas to stroll. Very spacious and airy. It's a bit of a hike from the subway stop, and some of it uphill, so be prepared for a good walk to get there. read more

Don't go to that school bronx community college the cuny , they charge you thousands of dollars in ESL classes, classes without credit and you never finish,They are racist and do not let Hispanics progress, I had to look for classes with credit at another school and after I did it, they didn't accept my credits. I went to other College and I did The two English that I lacked and they don't want to give me the diploma, don't go there, don't waste your time and your money, look at the percentage of graduations in this school, it's very low. Staff here need an intervention. Students should not be related to the way some of these staff members treat students. Too many times, I got to remind staff that they serve me and not the other way around. Ridiculous and this is a college. read more

This school needs to be organized. They are all over the damn place like they have students coming back and forth for something that can be put together and be done in a day or two. Some of the academic programs lack professors and result in wrong time schedules for the students. I thought a college suppose to have a schedule good for the students, I thought without the students there is no Bronx Community College. Am so happy am done with them. This whole CUNY system needs to be organized. They bring up "programs" to "help" people who cannot afford to pay tuition but it ends up benefiting the ones that already getting all the help (food stamps and others). What about the rest of us that have no choice but to take loans that will put us in debt for years upon years. We need real program just for people who have family incomes that are huge because you must work to survive and same time trying to get and education There are people with combine income yet get no help from their spouses because the bills are already a lot on each person and most of the time the woman is going to school and the man has to work. Throughout this semester, I've learned many things, such as becoming a better researcher. Learning how to research appropriately has been a helpful skill since it'll help me back up my papers with good sources. Second, I learned how to cite my sources correctly and do the work cited section, which I struggled with in my first semester of college. I struggled with getting the hang of MLA, but after this class, I am more confident in my writing skills. That was just what I learned academically. What I learned socially was how bad correctional officers have it at their jobs. Throughout my whole life, I thought these officers loved their jobs and saw their work as highly respectable, but after reading "dirty work" by Eyal Press, I learned this was just a mirage, and some were forced to work it to make income. Also, didn't know they were underpaid for working such a dangerous job. If I could start over the semester, I would do a few things differently. First, I would begin my papers earlier and take advantage of my free time at the moment because I've learned life can get in the way. If I have the time, I shouldn't postpone the paper. Second, I would have wanted more class discussion, but that wasn't in my control or the professors because most students were too shy. I understand why people would be nervous, though, so I don't blame them. From now on, I will work on outlining my papers more profoundly so I can organize my ideas and structure my essays, so my thoughts flow better. For my research papers, which will be necessary since I am majoring in Exercise Science, I'll start pulling together my sources earlier on before even starting an outline, so I have it fresh in my head. read more

Personally my professors were amazing or willing to take criticism and teach differently. This school provides programs for homeless, immigrant and low income students (food drives, clothing drives or application events to government access) This CUNY school is a gem for those two reasons only. The food option here is Au Pon Ban and overpriced vending machines. I and other students have seen mouse's on multiple occasions! A student with a tight budget or schedule who must eat on campus will suffer. There are deli's, a halah food cart that usually bless students will afford prices. Food needs to change. There are awesome clubs here (Muslim Association , African American Association and LGBTQIA+) but the club procedures are ill managed by faculty members. Student Life is all smiles but are impatient, do not manage their time well or provide clear procedures for club officers. The WIFI is weak and the computer lab and library care about one thing- Food and Drinks. They can't help you with the printer, but if they see Food or drinks they can help you LEAVE. During midterms or finals these areas can be busy so plan ahead and don't delay. The campus does have spots but some buildings are old and in the winter or summer the weather can extreme that it make it hard to concentrate, especially the gym! This school needs an audit and a transformation with the money stolen from students! read more

These people who work at BCC have been on vacation ever since corona Virus outbreak. No matter how many times you call they never pick up the phone, don't bother leaving a message either, because they not gonna call you back. I qualify for financial aid and it's 3 days before my semester starts and my Financial Aid haven't been processed. I've spoken to 3 different people who said they would look into it, but i never hear back from them. I guess my only option is to drop out since i can't afford to pay my tuition because i've been laid-off my job due to covid, and now this people are not processing my financial aid. read more

Bronx Community College is definitely not a perfect college. No college is. We all know Bronx Community College doesn't have a good reputation due to its surrounding neighborhood. Nonetheless, I can honestly say the school is a great school. More bang for your buck: Tuition is cheaper than CUNY 4 year colleges. Faculty: Very accommodating. I haven't met anyone in that school who refused to help me. Safety: There are security guards by every exit of the school. The campus is pretty big. It's beautiful and takes great pride in their hall of fame. For your safety, a free shuttle bus runs during the late afternoon and stops in front of nearby subway stations. Extra curricular activities: Most students aren't active outside of their classes, unless we're talking about basketball. Don't expect this school to be active in clubs. Food: The only cafe this school has is Au Bon Pain. The cafe is a bit pricey so I'm unsure if I would recommend it. Their food tastes great though. read more

I've taken classes at BCC for a couple of years. Pros: tuition's cheap, some of the professors are nice, the campus is clean Cons: they give you the run-around and make you take unnecessary classes towards a specific degree program. They have a parking lot which you have to pay for, but make sure you get it asap because there's a limited amount of permits they give out. People's cars have been broken into (they were parked on the street and during the evening classes). read more

I'm attending this school now BUT I'm looking to transfer, I came for the RN program which yesterday they came to inform me that I have to do 2 years (with no degree after completing the 2 years) THEN apply to the rn program and pray I get in THEN and IF I get in do another 2 years and then I get my associates like really? Basically I'll do 4 years here for an associates degree, I don't know if they actually have people falling for this but I'm not one of them...... I like the teachers, and the campus I feel is safe they always asking for school id, I haven't ran into a staff with attitude or anything like that I just don't feel like what they want me to do is correct, I feel like I'll be wasting 2 years of time and money!!! read more

I graduated Bcc January 2012 and this is a pretty good school. I got my AAS in human services when I thought I wanted to do social work but now I really Regret not getting my associates in nursing or Lpn cause my heart really wants to be a nurse someday. I wish I knew what i really wanted to do when I was there. I recommend doing liberal arts if you are not sure of your major cause when you are young you are going to keep changing majors so at least do liberal arts so every thing will still transfer if you go to Lehman like i did. All in all its a good school it's just hard to get into classes if you don't register within the first 3 days registration opens. It's a fight to get classes. The only thing i regret is not majoring in nursing. I'm thinking about going back to there to get another degree read more

I recently graduated (2018) BCC with a 3.4, not bad! I was a chemistry major which was a very stressful and painfully hard subject to master, but interesting and important. After being there for 2 years, this what i can say about my experience. The school is nice, clean, and respectful. it's a beautiful campus that has constant maintenance. The library is a great place to study and read, and the Hall Of Fame is a nice place for inspiration and contemplation. The two years that i was there i experienced kind and welcoming students, who want to succeed and who envision a greater life for themselves. The only bad thing about this school, and one thing that affects everything about going to school and succeeding, is the staff and the professors. I've had bad teachers, yes, but most of the STEM teachers at BCC, it seems, are not there to see you grow and succeed, but only to do their job at their lowest potential possible. The only reason i graduated was by countless hours on youtube and after school tutoring, yet as students we waste hours listening to professors that only read off a book and syllabus and half answer any questions we have. I have never been so disappointed in a school and their professors. The academic advisors and financial aid staff as well as the staff at the registrar office are lazy, they lack the ability to listen and help students with important questions. The lack of energy & enthusiasm in the staff is a huge problem. The old ways of thinking and lack of productivity among teachers and staff at BCC need to be re evaluated, because i believe in the potential BCC can offer to its students. What can I say about BCC? Hmmm If I knew everything I did now two years ago would I still go? Probably not but do I regret going? NO. Let me explain Leaving high school I wasn't into college the way I should have been. All I cared about was going away which changed after I visited the only away school I applied too. -.- BCC was pretty much my last choice. My first year I really hated it. Half of it was personal issues b/c you know, you gotta grow, transition and thats always hard no matter what school you go to. The other half was the school. I am coming from Westchester, New rochelle high school to be exact. I am used to a big diverse group people which I didn't notice until I went to BCC. It is majority spanish population, then black. Very Urban! Not everyone cares about grades and school here. It's a two year school but you'll meet kids who have been here for 4 D: but that didn't effect me because I am my own person. Some of the buildings aren't that nice or a little beat up/ghetto but decent. The tuition was great! My finical aid covered everything and for that I will always be happy. It's walking to distance to the subway. Buses that past the metro north Right in front of the school. Stores All around b/c its right there on fordham. Teachers are good. I've had great ones and a good amount of okay ones. Some of them have heavy accents and you can tell are from different countries which cam be a lil frustrating. Overall REAL Easy to get good grades. Administration can be a bit annoying when they don't answer the phone or flooded with students in the different office departments. My second year was better once I opened up more! I got used to being around a different population and my surroundings. Made a couple of friends and looked forward to seeing them in class. You can tell they are on the start of fixing the school. They built an " AU BON PAN" in the cafeteria. A new amazing Library! I discovered all of the nice computer labs in the school. They have a great employment specialist who helps you write resumes. Job fairs. Vending machines take debit! I think I just started to appreciate things more and it took time. I Started driving which made it better for me since I'm from Westchester. Tuition still covered both semesters. Plus money for books. I have called lately and someone picked up every time. Major thing was Parking passes. HUGE problem for me because I could not get a hold on a day & night one. They sell out quick and parking around the school would be okay if it wasn't for the street cleaning that requires you to move your car in the middle of the day -.- All in all. Once I got used to the school and kind of accepted it for it is, I enjoyed it more. I will be sad leaving it as I have one more semester but glad to move on. This college is the worst college I've been to. I'm just taking a Saturday course here because it was the only college that offered the class I needed on a weekend. And its one of the worst experience ever. The library is not even open on Saturday. And when I went on Friday, the library closed at 5pm. I went to make copies of a homework assignment I needed from the required textbook... and guess what... they didn't have the textbook. What kind of college doesn't have a copy of the required textbook needed for a class. There was also a line to make copies at the copy machine... wth? The only thing I liked about this college was that, there was street parking. I live in Brooklyn, so it takes about 2 hours to get to Bronx by the train.. Driving wise, it takes me about 40 minutes. God, wth was I thinking about when I registered for a class here. read more

Outside of travel convenience, this place is terrible. The teachers here are not too bad, but the staff that runs the university is DMV quality. The school is a great way to earn easy A's. Most of the students spend a ridiculous amount of time just staring at their phone screens rather than paying attention, participating in discussions, or doing assignments. Forget about reading the chapters or involving themselves in any homework. Half the class has dropped by midterm. Lots of girls who are looking to better themselves, if you can lure them away from their phones you might have a study partner. Good teachers, though they are a bit jaded from teaching a glorified highschool. Nice campus. read more

Just started college for the first time at 38 and it was one of the worst experiences of my life, Most of the Professors are not good except Mr. Stapleton. I teach-ed myself every thing to be a successful man without college and going there was like I was going backwards in every way. I felt like I went back to violent, ghetto, low class, ignorant high school. If you call Laguardia College you get someone on the phone, if you call BCC you get know one. To much to write but my over all opinion about this school it is totally trying from day one destroy your future, no matter how smart you are. This is one of the worst college in America. Their focus is only on the amount of student register per semester! Not on the amount graduate. Staff is extremely incompetent. They always give the wrong information and when you go back to them about their error, you don't even get an apology...just attitude and them informing you that "well you have to do it because it's requirement or policy". Ummm... that's the reason I was trying to do it in the first place. Customer service is terrible!!! Most of the professors are great! Avoid the maths department president at all cost. He couldn't care less! Staff is never at fault. That's rule number one. Any information you need, you should get it from at least 4 different people and if you get the same info twice then that's the correct answer. Trust me. Bronx Community College would love if no one ever graduate. just stay there and keep paying that tuition while they treat you trash and punish you for wanting an education. I visited a few days ago with a friend to try to gain some information and also received a tour by one of the staff members. I am interested in enrolling into school next year, but have not decided which one. My "tour guide" was really friendly and informed me about every detail I needed to know which I appreciated a lot. I tend to be very indecisive at times, especially as a big decision on which school to attend. I did read some of the reviews before I went, and of course the staff made it sound like the best (it is their goal) but I will apply the pros and cons for myself and then update. But overall my visit was really pleasant and the information seems pretty good right now. We'll see. read more
