Having stayed in parks from Seattle to here, I don't say that lightly. The beautiful oak trees provided a neverending stream of unique birds that were very amusing. The proximity to the gulf provided a great place to relax with a cool breeze. Scanning other parks close by showed us another beautiful place with a 450.00all inclusive rent. We are grandfathered in so our rent won't ever change. As a cancer patient I make several trips for treatment in Houston. There is a clinic close by. I come here for a short half day trip to walk some trails with my kids 5&7. Nothing is too strenuous here for the kiddos. The facilities are typically pretty clean too and there are picnic tables to be able to have a nice lunch or snacks. The park has plenty of trails, picnic areas, fishing spots, and gators! This park is far away enough from Houston but still close enough for a day trip, which is what I did. It took me about 30 minutes to drive here from Sugar Land. As I approached the entrance gate, I saw that they had two lines of cars with gate booths, just like the national parks. A ranger came out to my car and I registered myself as a day visitor. A park map was given to me and off I went to explore! Brazos Bend SP is larger than I thought it would be. There was a large parking lot and a few trailheads not too far away from the entrance, but I decided to drive past it to the next lot. 2 miles on the road later, the next parking lot was equally large but with much less cars and visitors. There's an interpretive center that was closed when I went, but a water fountain was nearby where I refilled my water bottle. I ended up walking along a combination of trails to get a feel for the place. The trails are mostly flat with asphalt, dirt, and light gravel. The peacefulness of this park is what really convinced me of the gem that this place is. Along the way, I witnessed many birds, including several vulture roosts in the trees. I also saw the American alligator in a pond, which I viewed from a safe distance. It would be quite difficult to reach the river and the ponds because of the natural vegetation in the area, so there weren't any wild alligators on the trails. I didn't get the chance to fully explore this park, but I wouldn't mind returning here another day. The gift shop offers a variety of items to purchase and the rangers seemed knowledgeable about the history of the park. Overall, I enjoyed my time here!

We would have been pissed to pull up to this place. The only photos they have posted of the outside are very misleading. It looks like a total dump. Grass is grown knee-high, the "cabins" look so run down. It looks like there's been no maintenance to speak of. The website boasts "luxury amenities" but the words "luxury" and "resort" are wayyy off course.

They have a nice laundry facility, game room, showers and restrooms. They had conveniently placed trash receptacles that were emptied in a timely matter daily. I like that we were just minutes from the activity on the island, yet we felt we were away from it all.....peaceful. There is an upper deck with lots of seating to enjoy the sunrise or sunset. We plan to go back again next year....

Hidden Gem in Texas Hill Country…read more Waldo's Camp on the Colorado River in Columbus, TX, is by far my favorite RV Campground in Texas. If you are looking for a place to go for a quiet and relaxing break from your kids then this is the place to be. Waldo's is right on CO River and has only 9 spacious RV spots with full hookups. Cellular signals are strong, many free HD antenna channels, and if you desire more, wifi is also available. Location couldn't be better, it's like camping out in the country on a ranch with big beautiful old oak trees. We camp every Spring in Texas Hill Country and this is the most relaxing and enjoyable campground we've found, I've already made future reservations before we depart tomorrow. The area is full of history for you history buffs. In 30 miles or less you can drive to Fayetteville, Round Top, & La Grange.

The trail was paved but not always the same width. Some parts were narrower than others. I saw warning signs for the cyclists to give room for pedestrians. Oh, the restroom is on the right side of parking lot. There were many parking spots. Lucky us, we came here at sunset hour on a windy day. Not many park goers there.
