My husband and I had such a great time on our ride at Broken Saddle we went back for another ride the next day! Harold, the owner, is kind and knowledgeable. I'm a beginner, and Harold made sure I was comfortable, that my stirrups were properly adjusted, and that I rode a gentle and reliable horse (my girl Lily!). Joe, our guide, is the best. He's a rancher and he's the real deal. He's patient and charming and takes care of everybody on the ride, checking in repeatedly that everyone is okay. We were lucky enough to have Joe as our guide both days. The scenery is so beautiful and the experience, both times, was unforgettable. Next time we're in New Mexico we'll go back to Broken Saddle for sure. I can't recommend them enough.

Ride On! If you're in for a ride while in Santa Fe and Albuquerque this is the place to ride. A no thrills, like it should be SW horse ranch nestled in Cerrillos. The Owner and trail guides are good olde hard working people with a very impressive knowledge of their trade, horse, people about to mount mode of transit. We traveled with 2 unique adult riders, one experienced therapeutic rider, but very timid, due to visual, spacial, and gross/fine motor skill issues. The other, a new rider, having recovered from a horrific vehicle collision with TBI and some physical limitations. A challenge for both day to day. Well our guides, dam good old boys, could see their riders challenge and fit each with perfect match, took time explaining the horse/rider relationship and put the riders at ease. After an beautiful ride through the canyon, up and down, and eventually onto a plateau with sky and surrounding terrain, our riders had their "moment." Expressed as the best and most beautiful portion of their trip. Thanks, Broken Saddle - your are truly the best.

My husband and I went horseback riding here at Broken Saddle yesterday and we had an excellent experience! We are beginner riders (the last time we did this was about 15 years ago in California and the horses were at walking speed the whole time) but our guide gave us an excellent intro in how to ride, and throughout the tour he would call out tips and what to do with the horses at certain times. The ride was SO fun! We did the 1hr 15 minutes ride. The horses are beautiful and behaved so well and at times during the ride would break out into a jog which was exciting (for us city people, anyway). The first half of the ride is mostly uphill and the half way point brings you to a spot with beautiful views. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and the plant and wildlife. We hope to bring our kids to visit NM next time we come out and will definitely bring them to do this.

Winter ride at Broken Saddle Riding in Cerrillos Hills State Park

Had a wonderful winter ride with my daughter visiting from out of state. I have ridden with Broken Saddle many times, but this time we went on a new route I hadn't been on before. Harold, the owner, and his wranglers know Cerrillos Hills State Park intimately, and design so many different rides for visitors - all lengths of time, different views, many difficulty levels. They target each ride to the riders. We had spectacular views of all local mountains, which guide Joe identified for us. We could see all the way to Mt. Taylor, more than 160 miles away. Harold's horses are well cared for smooth-gaited horses - no choppy, uncomfortable trotting. We had a fantastic time!

Horseback riding is a must in Santa Fe if you want to enjoy the beauty of the NM valleys. The horse were gently giants and autonomous, so it's perfect for beginners rider. This ride was especially memorable for me since it was also the day I proposed to my Fiancee! Harold worked with me to set up the special occasion. He personally escorted us away from the main group so we could have our own moment during an absolutely perfect sunset! Harold even offered to take videos and photos (with your camera). I'm so grateful and thankful to Broken Saddles. Highly recommended for just a fun ride or special occasion

I can't say enough good things about Broken Saddle. It was my first time riding a horse and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Harrold is such a cool guy and he does a great job of explaining things to you and making sure you know what you're doing before you head out on the trail. Hannah rode with us and she was amazing too. Super friendly, and a great instructor. My horse was super gentle and careful and he was the perfect horse for a first time ride. And the scenery is so beautiful, literally the entire ride was gorgeous. It's also not far from Cerrillos which is a nice place to stop and take pictures. If you're looking for a great horseback riding experience in New Mexico please check this place out!!!

Had a truly enchanting time here while driving through Cerillos on a sightseeing adventure with an out-of-town friend and car full of children. My city-mouse friend mentioned that she had always dreamed of petting a horse, so when we drove past an eclectic looking stable with gorgeous horses (seriously looks like something out of a movie), I figured it was worth a shot to see if we could meet the animals. I told my friend, "What's the worst they could say? No?" I parked my car and walked up to what looked like the main building, and I was greeted by a sleepy grey cat and outrageously cute little dog. A man that I presume is the owner followed behind the dog and asked me if I needed help. After pitching my request to him, offering money to let my friend just spend some time visiting the horses, he kindly told me that we were welcome to respectfully walk around for free. He told us we could meet any horse that came up to us, but reminded us to not feed the horses. By the looks of the horses, the man I spoke to clearly cares for these animals deeply, and I was really taken by the cleanliness and health of the horses. In the end, my friend was able to meet a horse for the first time, and my kids loved seeing the beautiful animals. They especially loved the sweet grey cat and inquisitive one-eyed horse. We will definitely be back to schedule a ride here, as I was so impressed by the animals and thankful for the kindness we were shown. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Broken Saddle! read more

I've ridden horses at several different "outfits" ... after reading reviews, i really didn't care about a rude dude on the phone reviews - until i experienced it ... i had 3 different interactions with the man on the other end of the phone line , and all 3 were like talking to a person gritting their teeth in anger . I understand it must be hard to plan/organize rides etc.. but jeezuzzzzz , calm down dude . i was dreading being on a ride with this kind of attitude , .The ride was canceled due to weather , and frankly - i was relieved ! It was probably the universe redirecting my energy to a more pleasant experience. Went down I25 to San Acacia, and had the time of our lives with HAPPY PEOPLE , amazing supportive enthusiastic wranglers , great horses , fun cantering and laughs all along . First impressions are everything Broken Saddle , even over the phone . read more

Edit: After reading the strongly conflicting reviews (either you had a great experience ...or you met Harold), I have to assume Broken Saddle is a total gamble. Not one I'm willing to take considering the numerous other options in Santa Fe. Harold, get help. You obviously need it. Left a VM to reserve a slot. Missed the initial call back. When I returned the call the Broken Saddle rep launched into a lecture about my full VM box and how frustrating it was for him and he can't understand why people dont clean out their VM box. Ummm ok. Great. Sorry my attempt to give you money required you to take a call. If this is an indicator of how fun you are on the trail...hard pass. read more

Sorry to be the first to leave a negative review. I'm sure the trail rides are epic, but I am reviewing the booking process and the owner's rude and completely devoid of empathy treatment when I was attempting to follow up on a reservation. There was no transparency provided about the details regarding a ride I booked. Even though I planned this out weeks in advance, and was looking forward to this ride as the 'main event" of a 16 hour road trip out to Santa Fe, I was told my ride would be about an hour long because I was a solo rider and that's just too bad. Had I known this in advance, I would have made other plans or tried to book a weekend ride. Please utilize better reservation confirmation practices or at the very least a healthy sense of customer service. read more

Spent the morning riding 5 beautiful horses with our guide Mr. Bob. Enchanting experience for both my husband and me and our 9 and 12 year old kids! The trail was exciting and Mr. Bob was he local historian! What a worthwhile trip for the whole family. The 3 mile ride up the Cerrillos was amazing. The horses were experienced with riders who lack experience and we also had a couple of trouts that made it exciting for my kids who have more riding experience! Afterwards we headed to a little town up the road- Madrid - to eat lunch. It was a perfect family day! read more

I second Nancy F. in her very good review of our horseback ride together. I came to Broken Saddle with my son and daughter-in-law because it seemed like the real deal, and it was. Harold was great, as was Joe Garcia, our guide. So were the horses. We very much enjoyed the ride into the Cerrillos Hills State Park, and Joe patiently took pictures of us on our horses. What an amazing experience! Harold and his staff (Bob and Drew) made for a spectacular ride! They went out of their to make us feel comfortable and safe, while ensuring we had a great time with speculators views. On another note, there is a weight restriction of 225lbs but we could quickly see it is because he cares for his horses and their well-being. We did the 9:00a ride which made all the difference. Bring your own water (can't share between riders) or you can buy one for a $1. Overall, it was one of my favorite experiences while in New Mexico. read more

We drove into Sante Fe for the day from our cabin. Harold greeted us as we arrived and was so awesome. The ranch is beautiful and the ride as amazing. Our group did the Moonlight ride and it was gorgeous. We did get a few thunderstorms on our way down but Harold got us back safely! Harold really comes alive on a horse... true horseman. This is a MUST for anyone traveling through the Santa Fe area. My boyfriend and I made reservations a day ahead of time with no problems at all for a morning ride the next morning. I've never been on a horse before and my boyfriend had ridden a few times. I was pretty nervous but the staff were all extremely friendly and comforting. We went on a tour just the two of us with our guides Carla and Oscar. They were both extremely knowledgeable and kind. Carla was such a sweet guide and made me feel right at home. Oscar was also extremely kind and knew a lot of the history along the trail! Our horses Lillie and Duke took great care of us along the way! The scenery is gorgeous and the atmosphere is so peaceful. The staff is second to none. It is 100% worth the the money! read more

Amazing experience! My mom, sister, boyfriend, and I decided the best way to see the Los Cerillos mountains would be on horseback. Brad was our guide and he was fantastic. My mom was having a bit of trouble at first and Brad was constantly slowing down to make sure she was okay. When we got to the lookout point he readjusted all of our stirrups to make sure we were good, and my mom did so much better after that. He also had lots of advice when it came to more rocky/steep parts of the journey. Definitely get your moneys worth out of it. And make sure to tip your guides !! read more

My Friend and I had a wonderful ride, horses were great to work with for beginners and experienced riders. Harrold and Bard were very welcoming and helpful with mounting the horses. Brad's instructions for riding were clear and concise. Brad made sure we were comfortable with our horses Lilly and Shadow, he readjusted saddles and stirrups during the ride to make sure we were safe and comfortable. Brad was extremely knowledgeable on the terrain, took nice pictures of us, and gave us excellent dining recommendations for our stay in Santa Fe! He also recommended Ghost Ranch, we went hiking there the next day and it was one of our favorite stops. Broken Saddle in Cerrillos, NM is definitely worth checking out! read more

We had such a great ride today. Bob was our wrangler and not only was he a safety first kind of guy, he took plenty of time to make sure we were comfortable and had as much information as we needed to have a great ride. Bob was also very knowledgeable about the history, flora, fauna and geography on our ride. He let us trot and gallop as soon as we felt like we were ready. This wasn't a boring ride. We also appreciated the pit stop to enjoy the view and get some great photos to commemorate our time. read more

You will love exploring the Cerrillos Hills on horseback! The 360 views of 5 mountain ranges surrounding Santa Fe will blow you away. We had fun trotting and loping up hills on gaited horses that are responsive and well seasoned. Our guide Rod was quick to share his knowledge of different cacti as we rode by and pointed out played out mines. We had a lovely afternoon and I couldn't help but smile. I brought my daughter to New Mexico, a place I had visited several times as a kid, so that she could experience its beauty. We went on a trail ride at Broken Saddle Riding Company. The owner was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and provided an excellent experience. The horses we gentle, beautiful, and very well trained. We had an amazing time. The landscape was absolutely breathtaking. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful company. Brad took my partner and I on a wonderful ride, horses were easy to work with for beginners and his instructions for riding were clear as well as concise. Brad was very knowledgeable on the terrain, took great pictures of us, and gave us excellent hiking, dining, and even snowboarding recommendations for our stay in Santa Fe! She's wonderful to talk to along the way and she took us to some amazing spots. The views were amazing. The horses are extremely well trained and are very friendly, the whole range of calm horses to more energetic horses for all types of riders. The half-day was a perfect amount of time to enjoy the mountain, horse, friends on the ride, and get back in time to relax. Will definitely do again and recommend to friends and family. :)

The owner was who we delt with (Joaquin) and he was an awful a**hole. The first instance was when I first reached out to him initially. His text messages were short, kind of rude and felt high pressure to give him the deposit. I just chalked it up to "it's a business" he's busy.. whatever.. We decided to still book the ride after talking with my husband about how it felt like something was off. We gave him the benefit of the doubt and a $250 deposit, remaining balance due at the end of the ride He gave us directions that we couldn't folow, because, he gave them to us coming from the wrong direction...we were from out if town, so we hadn't descovered that it was all backwards yet. He was rude again as we were texting with him...Trying to find him. So, I called him to try to clarify the directions. He was again rude and raised his voice with us. Telling us to "FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS" and stop thinking so hard. I was trying to tell him it seemed like the directions were coming from the wrong way, so the landmarks weren't falling in the right order. We weren't locating him. When we arrived, he was hostile from the jump. I can understand being irritated that he had to wait, but, he took zero responsibility for the fact that he gave us the wrong directions. ( Which was the actual issue..We would have been there 30 minutes early, had he not done that.) At this point, we had been driving around trying to find him for over an hour and we were also frustrated ...and way into our riding time. He made really rude comments and the energy was so bad and awkward we didn't even feel comfortable taking the ride any longer. Why would we want to continue to spend the afternoon with this jerk..let alone there is the fact we are trusting somebody to take us out in the desert, on horseback. We needed to feel like we were in good hands. The energy between us was so awful, awkward and uncomfortable..We chose to not even take the ride. When I told him I didn't even feel comfortable going out on the ride with him any longer, he became extremely hostile. He started yelling and fighting with us. Telling us we were racist because we were white, and he wasn't. The problem was never the color of his skin...It was always his attitude and the energy he was running. Subsequently while trying to locate him by googling more information about him and where to find him, we also found out he overcharged us for the ride. It's listed on the website for much less a person then what we were being charged. He kept the $250 deposit we had already given him. Trust me and look elsewhere. This guy is not worth your time.

He then told my nephew, "You're paying," to which I replied, "No, I am paying for him." Carlos then remarked, "I wouldn't pay for him; I don't even let my son ride for free. Why would you pay for him?" This was very rude and made my nephew feel terrible about his weight. I would never return or recommend this place to anyone.

I was very impressed with what I saw at Trinity. Trinity has a indoor, a very large outdoor arena, standard dressage court and a round pin. The rings are well maintained. The facility has groomed trails around the property that connect with a large network of trails. Although the indoor is not large between different schedules, different disciplines, good weather, and with the consideration of others, there is always options where to ride. I board in the barn. My horses (2 now) have nice large stalls with lengthy flat well draining run-outs. The barn has a very friendly atmosphere that really helped me in my transition to New Mexico. I met with Emily Keene, the dressage trainer and observed lessons 2 times before making my choice of Trinity. I cannot say enough good things about Emily. She is well educated in dressage and the bio-mechanics of the horse and rider. She also a great communicator. You couldn't ask for 3 better credentialed trainer/instructors (dressage, hunter/jumper, western). All the trainers are open, friendly and helpful, even if you are not with their program. Tim the resident manager was there to welcome and help settle my horses after cross country shipping. He is always willing to set aside time to talk about any problems or concerns. He has also been a big mental and physical support during a colic. The rock of the Trinity is Ismael (and his family), who see to the day to day care of the barn and property. Ii recently returned from a trip to NM, visiting my sister. She asked what I would like to do and I told her I wanted to go horseback riding. I began reading reviews of different places. I was struck by great reviews of Broken Saddle. My sister also made inquiries. A friend of her's who had lived in Madrid affirmed that Broken Saddle was great. This from someone who owns her own horse. As others have noted, it is obvious that Harold, the owner, loves his horses and takes care to treat them well. His passion for his horses and Broken Saddle was palpable. Care was taken to determine our level of experience and comfort levels. We were paired with appropriate and very sweet horses, Lilly and Twain. My sister and I went out with Ann, who was very nice and knew the area well. She spoke of Harold's love for all that is Broken Saddle, including his love and dedication to the horses. It was evident that she, too, has a true love of horses and the upmost respect for Harold. Sadly, this is often not the case. To many, it is all about the almighty dollar. How refreshing and fortunate we were to have chosen Borken Saddle. We did a 2 hour ride, during which we were offered the opportunity to trot and canter during portions of our ride. Ann took pictures for us, also. We saw a coyote above the trail who gazed at us from the distance. It was a terrific opportunity to be introduced to the NM landscape. We both had great rides. I was sad to leave. I cannot thank Harold and Ann enough for assuring that our experience was awesome! I look forward to returning on future trips. I highly recommend Broken Saddle to anyone traveling to the area. This was the absolute best horse riding trip we have ever been on. There is simply no comparison. Harold, Rod, & Jackson all took the best care of us at Broken Saddle. I have never felt more comfortable on a horse thanks to the kind and thorough instruction. Cerrillos, NM is a rejuvenating escape from the busier pace of the cities most of us are visiting from. We did an evening tour and the silence and peace of the area was magical. Rod, our guide, knew so much about the are and the local plants and was a lot of fun to be with. This is not your typical tourist destination where you ride single-file and go the same speed the whole time. We moved gracefully through casually meandering the trails to cantering up the hillsides. I have never had more fun on a horse-guided tour. This is as real and authentic as it gets. If you want a Disney-land version of a horse ride go somewhere else. This is the real deal. We even got a picture of all three of us on our horses on the top of the hillside as the sun was going down. The very best part of our whole trip, though, was the fact that we know it won't be the last time we'll get to let loose with these amazing folks - we will definitely be back! Broken saddle was hands down AMAZING if you're anywhere near the Cerrillos area I highly recommend this place. My friend and I drove an hour out of the way to come and it was unforgettable. To start, you have to arrive 30 minutes early, not to help the wranglers, but to ensure their reservation is showing up which is totally understandable. We got the private ride which was awesome. Drew was our wrangler and she couldn't have made us anymore comfortable, my best friend and I both are experienced so we trotted and cantered for the majority of the ride. We passed old mines that Drew gave us a bit of background on and a cool building/area called Trail Head City, where Harold used to host events. Drew took our picture at the peak so we passed on another photo once we got there. Eli was my horse and he was amazing, took it slow and easy and listened to commands to speed up immediately. Lillie, who my friend rode, was amazing as well. Once we got back to the stable it was hard to leave! The horses and staff are the best!!!! They charge more for cards which is AOK because most companies charge a fee. They are a true ranch, in the high dessert with barely any signal. They offer water for $1! Two portajohns out back. perfect day! We are a family of four, two twenty-somethings and parents, with varying degrees of experience and desire to ride. All of us had a wonderful time. From the very beginning the experience was customized - horses matched to rider size and experience, a quick run through of the basics, a promise that the ride would be whatever we wanted it to be within our ability. The ranch is spotless, the horses seem to be in excellent condition (I've never seen mesh protectors over the eyes to keep flies away). The horses are incredibly well-trained and responsive. We all felt comfortable within a few minutes. Our guide, Michael, told us about the history and geography of Cerrillos and he checked in with us often to be sure we were happy and comfortable. The landscape is spectacular - hills, mountains, brush, nice trails. We had ridden before at another place in Santa Fe and found Broken Saddle to be far superior. Only 30 mins from Santa Fe and a the drive is beautiful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

As concierge at one of the Santa Fe hotels, I wanted to check out Broken Saddle's rides to know how I should describe and recommend them to guests. June, our wrangler, took us for a fabulous ride through the beautiful Cerrillos landscape! We climbed to an amazing viewpoint where we could see numerous mountain ranges and get photos. June made the ride fun and informative by sharing the history of the landscape and the plants we were passing. The horses seemed extremely well-cared for rather than worn down from too many rides. My friend had never ridden a horse before and June and Harold did a fabulous job of putting him at ease and providing riding tips. I am now highly recommending Broken Saddle to all my guests and visitors to Santa Fe who want to experience the landscape intimately from horseback. My party of 3 inexperienced riders decided for a 2 hour sunset ride with Broken Saddle Riding Company on our recent visit to the area. Harold, the owner, reminded me of my longstanding family in the area who were professional ranchers for most of their lives. He was matter of fact, to the point and very clear in his instruction on riding points. Not to sound cliche, but if you think of Curly from the City Slickers movie...Harold has the same refreshing "real person" demeanor. Our guide, John, was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. He really made the ride an absolute pleasure. The ride Itself was fantastic with beautiful views, calm and smooth riding mounts for just enough riding time to get you sore... My husband and I were in Santa Fe for a few days and Broken Saddle was recommended by a local. From start to finish amazing! We have both been on horses before but still very much in the beginner category. Harold greeted us when we arrived and went over everything with us. Our wrangler for the ride was Bob. He knew everything about the area. I was interested in the wild flowers while my husband wanted to know all about the history of the area and mountain ranges. Bob easily answered everything while at the same time kept an eye on our horses and our comfort. I was hoping for a 3 hour ride but Harold said we would thank him later if we only did a 2 hour. Well...Harold was right! We enjoyed every second of our 2 hour ride but glad we didn't go for the 3 hour! Highly recommend them!! read more

Incredible views, wonderful wranglers, great horses! I'm a little more experienced with riding horses, and was a lucky sole rider they tailored the experience to what I was looking for. Harold was very pleasant and helpful to speak with regarding not only what to expect on the trail ride, but local food businesses to check out afterwards for us tourists, too. I also could tell he cared a lot for his horses. Hannah was my wrangler/trail leader who was very energetic, kind, and fun to ride with on our route. I felt I could trust her on our excursion. The location isn't too far from Santa Fe, and the prices I find very reasonable. If you can, go during a weekday where the chance of smaller groups is higher. This was a big highlight of our trip to Santa Fe. We took the 1 hour sunset ride with Rod. We had a little bit of experience with horse riding, but not recently. Harold and Rod were very helpful in explaining how to make the ride easier, how to handle the horses, and what to expect. The views and the scenery were absolutely gorgeous! We got to the top of the mountain just as the sun set. Rod took many pictures for us while we watched the sun go down. He also spent much of the ride telling us about the area, the trail, the mine, and horses. He is extremely knowledgeable about them all, plus he's a really nice guy. We highly recommend the short trip from Santa Fe or Albequerque to visit the ranch and see the mountains up close while on horseback! read more

This place is phenomenal! This was easily the highlight of our weeklong trip to Santa Fe. The staff are friendly and extremely informative, the horses well treated and the riding area beautiful. They take a great deal of care in matching horse to rider - we had no prior experience and our horses were very calm and gentle. Our guide, Michael, was a Renaissance cowboy who packed an incredible amount of interesting info into our ride. Where else can you learn facts about silver mining, Jim Morrison and cactus species while on horseback? You can tell that they make the welfare of their horses a top priority. While on our honeymoon we scheduled a 2 hour afternoon ride the day before and received a call back promptly asking us our experience, height and weight. I was slightly nervous of how the trails would be because my husband is a beginner rider while I am more experienced. The gentleman that owns the ranch was very helpful and patient explaining basic things about the saddle and his horse. Our guide was very understanding to my husbands limits and would reassure us and encourage us to try and push our selves. What a beautiful and fun way to spend an afternoon! My mom and my best friend and I had a great ride. We made a reservation a few hours in advance (although some other rides in the afternoon were sold out so I'd advise booking a few days ahead if you can) and were immediately greeted by two wonderful wranglers. Our skill levels were mixed, but our guide, Rod, easily made it a fun experience for everyone. The horses are beautiful, healthy and happy, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It's a quick trip from Santa Fe and absolutely worth it. I'll be recommending this place to everybody who comes out here. read more

This is the best horse stable anywhere. The owner, Harold, and his staff take really good care of their horses and the horses are the best I have every ridden at any stable across the US. The wranglers (Adele, John, Carl) are friendly, competent, efficient and take special care to watch the riders and the horses throughout the ride. Safety is the priority and having a wonderful time is next. They accomodate any type rider and give you the help you need to be comfortable. The horses are unbelievable. You will not believe it until you try it. Definitely worth the trip.....and the scenery is spectactular! read more

These people are extremely rude. They were full up for the day and the owner said he would recommend other stables, so I asked him to wait while I found a pen, and then said "actually, wait, I can use my tablet." The man who owns the place on the phone then said "you know what, I don't help people who use tablets," and hung up on me. I'm serious, that's what this nujob told me! I called back and tried to get him to be reasonable and help me out and was hung up on again. I just wanted to take my daughters on a trail ride on their last day in Santa Fe. I would strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

We had a destination family wedding to New Mexico and wanted our families to get a chance to experience the "wild west" on horseback. Broken Saddle accommodated our 17 person group with 4 Wranglers, and even my 86 year old grandmother was able to ride that day! The staff there took wonderful care of all of us, and made sure everyone was comfortable given their riding experience (or lack there of). They talked us through everything we needed to know for the adventure. I would highly recommend a group ride with your family or friends...A perfect, fun addition to your trip! read more

I'm local to the area and have several riding options, but I keep coming back to Broken Saddle because of the horses. Each ride is setup to fit the skill level of the rider and each horse carefully selected. Not to mention the fact that Harold takes good care of his horses. That's important to me! The trail ride is beautiful. I've had several guides, Ann Clemons was the latest (a published author, how cool!) and all have been very engaging and knowledgeable about the area. Excellent horses, excellent guides, excellent views! I've ridden at Broken Saddle 3 times now and it's always been a fabulous experience. The horses are very well cared for and well-behaved. The guides always give a few tips to help you become a better rider and point out interesting bits about the history of the area and the local flora and fauna. My most recent guide, John, also told us his fascinating story about riding across the country on a horse! The sunset ride is a real treat, but, really, so is riding at Broken Saddle any time of the day. Highly recommended! read more

Our two teenage daughters went on a two hour guided ride on Thanksgiving day. I can say that this was one of the highlights of their week-long vacation in Santa Fe. The owners and guides were fantastic! They were clearly safety minded but also wanted to provide a great experience for the riders. The horses were very well tended. My first time riding a horse and Harold was super detailed with instructions on how to not fall off a horse, sprinkled liberally with his many stories and observations about horses. The education before we started riding really helped me understand where to place my feet, etc. Sequoia, our guide, was not only great at story telling throughout our ride, she was also very attentive. I loved riding here so much that I came back a second time with my two daughters and rode with John as Harrold was away. I've been riding for over 40 years and have never been to a barn where so much care was taken not only for the customers but also the horses themselves. I highly recommend Broken Saddle to either a beginner or an advanced rider. We wanted to canter - and we did - multiple times.
