Online shopping and the collapse of the middle class one-job parent-led family put extreme pressure on malls. To say nothing of the pandemic more recently. No, of course its glory days are behind it. The Woolco, Freeses,Rich's, etc., stores that used to reside there were all Wal-Marted and Amazoned out of existence in this adapt or die economy. Is there a plus side? Well, the Airport Mall is in the Mall Hall of Fame. (Bet you didn't know there was one.) I personally like the Ocean State Job Lot as much as I did the long lost department stores like the one where my father met my mother (Newbury's, I think). Then there is the Hannaford you can hit for groceries while you are there. I honestly don't know if the Staples and the Mr. Paperback are still there. And of course, in the winter there is still the lost art of mall walking!

They said they'd put on hold till sunday, but to be sure we came back the next day. We shopped for more items and left our cart for 5 minutes, which they took and started putting the items away. When we asked for my items on hold they had already put it all away too. Wasted hours of our time, came out in a snowstorm, called management today: "They don't care." Someone must be a restocking Nazi there. They put our stuff away twice before we could buy, and we are not people who spend anymore time shopping than necessary.

Someone outside was joking about possible reasons they were doing it, but I assume it is the recent surge in Covid. At least I think he was joking. Because of the success of vaccines and Paxlovid in slowing down the spread and reducing its impacts, I think some people believe Covid is finished rather than that it is now like flu strains. Anyway, the wait outside the store was short. I tend to shop more closely in the Home Goods section rather then in the clothing, unless there is something in particular I am looking for. They sometimes have surprising items for sale, such as the time we found our brand of decaf coffee at a great price. The variety of decaf available at warehouse stores can be pretty limited, but if you have a Kurig you are made in the shade. They must sell a lot more of it and make more profit. So i don't shop at TJ Maxx regularly but I like stopping in occasionally to see what they have at that particular moment. It helps me miss Zayre's less from when I went to the Broadway Shopping Center decades ago now.

Everyone knows what they are getting with Argos but I still can not really get my head around the concept. I just think it is strange that you place an order from a catalogue then pay for the item before someone picks it up in the stock room. Why can they not just have the items in front of you like any normal shop? I think this people go to Argos just for the novelty factor, you can get the items from their catalogue in any other shop for around about the same price. Although the choice is unbeatable there are not many places you can get everything all under one roof. The service is quite good too, the staff are pretty quick to scamper around the stock room and load up the conveyor belt.

One of the back walls has been deemed structurally unsound, yet the store manager Jake has opted to place product back on the wall, making it a risk for both customers and employees. This location is chronically understaffed on weekends, when it is at its peak volume and over staffed on bizarre days like Mondays and Thursdays. The parking lot desperately needs lines painted, with no lines even indicating handicapped parking. Take the extra 15 minutes and drive to the Holden location. Holden is always staffed with friendly employees, clean and ready to serve you.

The prepaid special order section is separate from the rest, item,s arrived bagged/tagged and hold for the purchaser. How this happened is beyond mine. The manager of the section said oops well it is gone now. I can order another, be into the store in 4-5 weeks. I drove a 3 hour round trip to pick this up. Needless to say, it was frustrating and I make no special trips or attempts to shop here an longer due to this and how many times you have to circle the store to find someone to help with the floor stock.

Wild, right? The clothing carried at JCPenney seems more like something my grandmother would wear- shorts with a 9 inch inseam, dresses that look like giant bags, and lots of T-shirts with patriotic and otherwise vapid slogans that someone's older relatives might wear on vacation in Cancun or more likely when dropping a bundle at the casino downtown. Nevertheless, we generally go on a pass through here to see if there is anything that could possibly work for us, because pickings in Bangor are SLIM. Last night, we came through (I swear we were the only customers in the store!) and were greeted by a blonde woman at one of the desks as we were walking by. She asked us if we needed help (we let her know kindly that we didn't), but then, as we were already walking away, she started shouting at us asking if we had signed up for a JCPenney card. And she wouldn't take no for an answer! We both remarked to each other when we were out of earshot what a creepy interaction that had been. We rounded the store and for some reason (I don't know why) started checking out bras to see if there was anything that would fit me. In my band size, there was nothing smaller than a D cup (I'm an A), and a lot of the underwear looked again like something that your grand- or great-grandparents would wear. I am so tired of not being able to get women's shoes that fit me, or bras that fit me, or jeans that fit me at businesses in town. I am so tired of being told (as I have by associates here in the past) that I can "order it on JCPenney dot com" because apparently my sizing is too out-there to carry in stores. If I'm coming into a store, I want to buy some clothes and wear them today. I want to feel how the quality is and see how they fit my body. If I am going to order clothes online, I'm not going to get them from JCPenney dot com- I'm going to get them on Amazon. The products that JCPenney carries tell me that they don't think that people like me or my partner should exist. Why should we give them our money? I'm just waiting at this point to see whether JCPenney or the Bangor Mall folds first. It's like this store doesn't even want to stay in business.

Some of them are pleasant surprises, such as something I had years ago and haven't thought about, or something seasonal or stocked temporarily that I would never have thought to look for. It makes the trips more fun than your average store. Recently I also found a winter hat the same style but much better than one I had passed over at twice the police at Reny's (another great store). So I will obviously keep going to Ocean State when we are in my home town.

The head quarter store is cool but can be over whelming. Wish there were more staff around. I do…read morelike how they have the actual store then an outlet store and then a home store. The iconic bean boot statue is right in front so make sure to snap a pic. I agree the store is pricey but if you go to the outlet store you can find some hidden gems however either way the material is worth the price. The best part of our time here was we ate at Linda beans kitchen restaurant which was unique and yummy. You would think she would have more homey foods but it was still nice to sit and eat here.
