    02.19.22 The Cursed
    May A.

Nice but Needs a Facelift 3.5 Stars. This theater is located in the City of Eureka. It has 8 movie screens in the building. We watched The Cursed in a last showing on a Saturday evening and the price was pretty cheap at $10 a person for general admission. Don't expect a chain of movie theaters with multiple screens, reclining luxury lounger seats or reserved seating options (not that it mattered in our case). This is a small movie house with friendly service and a nice smile. The box office at the front was closed so we had to purchase tickets at the concession stand. Lucky for us it's the last showing that evening and there were only a handful of moviegoers so we went straight to an open cashier. We also bought popcorn and drink. The theater could use an upgrade. It is decent but outdated and very dim in the lobby area. Inside the movie the chairs are old and so close to each other. We sat towards the back where the row only had four seats (two seats that were a few feet away from the other two seats). We were spoiled from our theaters at home. I've never had to sit so close to my hubby in a movie theater LoL! The movies were all current. The Cursed was only in its second day after its release date. The leg room between the rows are okay, the aisles are wide. The facility is clean and well-maintained. Review #2519

Broke down theater with a halfway lite neon sign.

It's the only theater in Eureka and so we have no choice but to go to this sad theater. I have lived in Santa Rosa, Memphis, Houston and other places so in the 5 years I have been living here, this theater has not done one improvement and it's totally possible. As a movie enthusiast I'm to the point I make special trips to go out of town and see movies elsewhere because I don't want to sit in the tiny, painful, sad employees for customer service, that this theater has to offer.

Comin from a big city broadway cinema gets it right. Rewards program kills it. How theaters used to be! How theaters should be!

This cinema is old and there was not a lot of parking, but they had movies and in this small city it gave an option for something to do.

Don't order hot dogs or pizza if you don't want to wait. However, the hot dogs are great when they are ready!

I still think Mill Creek is better, but this is a nice theater with less high school kids thank Mill Creek and the Minor.

On the national historical registry since 2010. the wife and I were there one evening recently for an ArMack Orchestra performance, the sound within the auditorium is very good and I'm sure in her prime she was a grand venue, but this building has definitely seen better days. The first thing I noticed was the "mushy" smell when you walk into this large space - mold, dust and disrepair are apparent. The art deco interior is still very much there and intact - mostly just needs an update after all the years of neglect. Great stylized cut glass wall sconces, and stylized cut glass overhead light fixtures along with the lobby entrance and foyer details reveal just how great this grand structure was back in its day. High ceiling soar overhead and two huge murals - left and right of the stage reminded me that this used to be a place where people in the town gathered regularly in a different era. This space is now a multicultural facility for the performing arts and monthly movies. Also available for rent for special events, weddings, parties, concerts, etc. This is a special place within old Town downtown Eureka that needs to be used to keep her alive, and is in need of some loving restoration to keep around for future generations. Still a 4 Star venue for all of its awesome architectural details that still exist after seven plus decades. And, a venue that has the potential to be a true 5 star gem - with a little help. 00127

They feature awesome programming like "Science on Screen," when science lectures accompany sci-fi films, and live scores by musicians such as the Invisible Czars. Visiting the theater for their monthly noir night has become one of my favorite activities since moving to the area. Definitely grab a local beer, cider, glass of wine or speciality cocktail while viewing a flick--all proceeds go toward the theater's restoration. Rumors has it that the theater will soon have it's own deco Air BnB for rent upstairs--can't wait to recommend it to out of town visitors :)

The 1920-30s building is from an era gone by, a time when going the the theater used to mean something. It was an event to go to in its day. Painstalkingly restored and revitalized, with attention to the details is obvious when walking into and through this building. An architecturally beautiful Art Deco facility. Ornate detailings throughout the building with impressive fixtures and appointments and true to its heritage. There is really not a bad seat in this house, as it is designed and setup for live performances. My visit was no exception, six rows back and stage left. A near perfect location for a view on to the stage without looking up. The sound system is top notch as well, and the acoustics exceptional throughout the building. Be sure to check out the Artist level downstairs very cool. 4.5 Stars - rounded up for the great restoration of a great old building 00651

The production itself was good. There were a few aspects of the production that were surprising... Borderline startling... But in total the talent as well as the student aspects were very pleasant. There were even some cameos by some local icons! (No spoilers!) The venue itself has sufficiently comfortable seats and an open, spacious lobby. The mezzanine is large and affords good vantage. I sat center in row m, which was a bit away from the stage. This didn't bother me as the space is intimate enough to afford fine views from everywhere. The decor of this site is downplayed. I am not sure how to define it... Neither Grecian nor Elizabethan but borrowing from both, the walls made of a sculptors wide brush-strokes. I didn't entirely like it... But it certainly didn't detract from the production quality. I will possibly revise to 5 star after my next visit... As the missing star has more to do with the specific production than the venue itself!
