    2016 Russian River Cab...
    Ray F.

Stepped into Septentrio the other evening, a chill and very laidback winery thats so unpretentious its a pleasure to actually sit, sip, sample, snack, and socialize The winery has a nice selection of wines by the bottle and the glass as well as an assortment of sparkling waters and lemonade - I settled on a 2016 Russian River Cabernet that was simply sublime, smooth full bodied and rich overtones of chocolate, spice and berries it was well aged and ready for its uncorking on my visit. This is a gem of a winery located very inconspicuously in a downtown neighborhood Arcata. The backyard makes it all worth it too, a very comfortable private area to enjoy your libation choice and sit outside in mother nature. Several seating areas spread out with fire pits at a few, pairs, groups and clusters of areas allow you to pick your space accordingly. Friendly help and kind folks that work here too, everyone is very helpful and professional my server was so kind, she even brought a water dish for my little buddy. (Well behaved dog friendly) A cool winery with a great vibe thats private and relaxing on many levels - well worth a visit 4.5 Stars - rounded up for the kindest extended to my little old fur friend during my visit 00759

Wine mom here!! .... Thank you Tynel and Jared for creating the classiest family friendly spot to hang in arcata. My kids love coming to the winery. We feel beyond welcome to enjoy their space at Septentrio. Games, books. Toys, snacks and kid drinks are all available. Great wine, delicious food and a huge yard to hang out in. Septentrio supports the local music scene, the LGBT+ community, artists, families and aspiring chefs.

Jorge is by far the cutest most brilliant winetender ever. I love his charisma and class. And a party favor if you will. He will make your experience 69x better...

I wish I had more time to spend here because I was expecting to go in and sample a few wines but it wasn't the case. Beautiful outside setup with tons of seating. They have menus where you can order wine and bottles to drink and hangout. They also have a food truck serving food with your drinks. After hanging out for a bit and enjoying a glass of wine I had to leave, so I asked if I could pick up a few wines to go and they guided me inside where they have wine setup on draft systems. They also have the bar area where I was able to order take take to go.

No room for anything but septentrio!

We visited Sunday before Labor Day with a friend and we don't have enough good things to say about this place! The decor and seating is simple yet adorable. The two owners were there and had no problem chatting it up about what we liked and didn't like when it comes to wine. Not in a wine snob kind of way either, but a normal human way lol- really asking about the wines. We had a great time and between my friend and myself we walked out with 8 bottles of delicious wine. These people make you feel so welcome and I can't wait to go back! My wine rack is now stocked with just septentrio I highlighted my personal fav in the picture. The brut rose. Amazing.

This business is one of many gems in Arcata. The ambiance outside is perfect, making us feel safe and well cared for during these strange times. Jorge was, and is always, a fantastic host. He walked us through different wine choices, catering to our tastes and preferences. The appetizers from the food truck were delicious and complimented the delicious wine selection. There are heaters and fire pits to keep you warm on the chillier Humboldt nights, but bring a blanket just in case! Overall, we always love stopping by for date night or a girls night out. Thank you for being open and also closing when necessary to keep the community safe! Keep up the fantastic work.

Food truck restaurant at the Septentrio Winery. We just tried the rosewater and pistachio cheesecake which was interesting.

I had plans to spend the holidays with the family in the Bay Area so I had to "stock up" with Humboldt products, particularly Dick Taylor chocolates and Moonstone Crossing wine. I was blessed to have Hayley on duty when I visited. As usual, she listened to what my planned event was and suggested some excellent choices. I was surprised to see that she had her "own" blend...HAYLEY'S COMET. I cracked up when I saw that she had modified the logo to feature her dog! I wound up purchasing several of her own blend as well as an assortment of other reds. As usual, the family loved the wine, especially Hayley's product. Thanks again for making me so happy to "rep" Humboldt when I travel!

The only kinda weird thing is it's not a flight so you have to actually come back to the counter and get more which interrupted my girl conversation outside! No biggie but would be nice to have all 4 at once as I like to kinda taste between them. Either way, I liked 3/4 of the wines and I went home with a bottle of the red rose whatever that was haha. The inside of the shop itself is absolutely adorable, cozy, and welcoming. Super close to Trinidad head where you can see gorgeous views. Great place and I recommend!

Opening time was 1 pm and it was perfect as it was on the way to our hotel from a morning visit to the town of Ferndale. There were only a few guests when the gates opened but wait times filled up fast as there was only one staff tending the taps and gift shop. We were second in line, so it wasn't much of a wait for us. I ordered a flight of five with regular ABVs (alcohol by volume) which included the iconic Downtown Brown, Harvest Wheat, Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout, Great White and Lost Coast Pilsner. I and the other patrons were bummed that the Indica IPA wasn't on tap so I ended up purchasing a six pack. I wanted a totally different variety of beers when we had dinner at LCB's restaurant a few nights before. The restaurant offers a flight of 6 on tap BTW. I'm more of a wine person when given a choice, but the tasting the brews of LCB was one opportunity I wasn't going to miss while I was here. I like IPA and wheat among the beers but ended up liking all of them. Even the dark stouts. Unlike, the restaurant, they only serve chips (unpacked) and salsa (sealed) here. My wife (designated driver) and son opted to get a taster of their root beer and a couple scoops of ice cream from the gift shop. We ended up purchasing a bright tie-dyed tee LCB tee and a fridge magnet.

We arrived on a Sunday morning at 10:30 am. Winery proprietor Andrew did a terrific job communicating with us before our arrival to make sure we could find the winery which is tucked away a little ways off the main road. We met Andrew and his wife Rosie when we arrived and Andrew showed us where to park under a nice shady oak tree. It helped dissipate the 90 degree heat later in the day. We got set up and then headed out for Shelter Cove - a windy, steep, 10 mile, 35 minute drive down to the ocean. Andrew gave us helpful advice about using our low gears as we drove down the steep road so we wouldn't heat up our brakes. He also gave us advice about places to eat for lunch (we ended up eating at Gyppo Ale Mill - best fried cod I've ever had) and told us about sights we might enjoy seeing, including the black sands beach. We relaxed when we got back to the winery afterwards and then at 4:30 we did a scheduled wine tasting. Rosie was our host. Andrew is normally also there for the wine tasting, but could not join us because he was processing a new batch of grapes. The experience also included a very nice charcuterie board. Rosie did a great job sharing numerous wines with us and telling us a little bit about each of them. They try to stay faithful to only using grapes from the Humboldt area. We also had the very fine pleasure of meeting a couple of fellow Harvest Host guests Jeff and Patti during the wine tasting. After the wine tasting was over, we bought several bottles of wine and a tasty dark chocolate bar that we had tried as part of the charcuterie board. Rosie let us visit with our new friends on their cozy covered patio as we enjoyed a bottle of wine and chocolate that we had just bought. We had a quiet restful night's sleep afterwards under the pitchblack starlit Milky Way sky. Overall great experience. Thank you Andrew and Rosie for sharing your beautiful property and wines with us!
