The uniforms are bright and go well against the white walls - makes you feel in the holiday mood. There is a range of brochures on the walls behind the staff members meaning you have to ask for a brochure, but these are given willingly without any pressure. The staff are really good at making you feel welcome and take an interest in your holiday requirements. I have always felt that they have brought my holiday to life before its even begun. The last time I was here I remember there being about two places to eat once you got through security, but now there is the standard 'Duty-free' area, bars and restaurants that you would expect. I also loved the (non-smoking) roof terrace - something that you don't see very often at airports these days with increased security worries. A nice place to get some fresh air on a sunny day. Parking is still a nightmare here, even if you're just picking someone up. You see lots of 'alternative' parking areas on the way to the airport, from pubs and farms down to individual houses with large driveways offering long-term parking facilities, and if anyone is coming to pick you up, they often lurk outside the airport and just swoop in to get you when you call them. Transport to and from the city centre is pretty straightforward on the 'Bristol Flyer' bus, which costs £7 single.

No grace period, no short-stay option, just an automatic fee the second you enter. It feels less like traffic management and more like a penalty for saying goodbye. Then inside the terminal, a beer at the Cabin Bar was £8.29. I expect airport prices to be higher, but that's pushing into ridiculous territory. Between the drop-off charge and drink prices, it feels like you're being squeezed at every step. I understand airports need revenue, but this leaves a pretty sour impression and makes the experience feel exploitative rather than welcoming. I'll be looking for workarounds next time and warning friends to do the same..

It's a haunting old station and one which we've been to on many occasions. Functionally, it's been modernized a lot in recent years during the resurgence of Bristol, but it's as grand as ever. It's actually the oldest station in the country and also the largest. Literally, in the UK. It started serving trains on the last day of August in 1840 and it connects to London Paddington. It was designed by Brunel. Who then did a lot of other railway things. But this was his first mission and he did it well.

I visited most of the stations in the Bristol area and surrounding countryside when I was doing my extensive traveling here and because I love visiting Rail stations. It's a cute example of a little British station with an amazing urban flair. This tiny little station is especially amazing because of its little Station House on the only platform which is covered in murals and graffiti and that makes it extremely unusual and notable and honestly gives it so much flavour that it's probably one of my favourites in the country.

It's usually very quiet, and there's no ticket machine or information booth, or anything to help you at all, bar a small notice advertising potential changes to the timetable - but not the current timetable! It's all very surreal: just one track serving both directions. Make sure you aim for a specific train when using this line; check on the First Great Western website for the Temple Meads-Severn Beach line. With two trains an hour in each direction, it really is a very bad idea to turn up and hope for the best! And be warned: there is no service at all on Sundays! You pay the fare (£2 single for the whole line) once you're on the train. When it's really busy, it's unlikely the conductor will get round everyone with the ancient little ticket machine, so, though I hate to say it so baldly, you can often ride this train for nothing. At rush hour times, morning and evening, quite a few people use this line for commuting around Bristol and I would recommend leaving it to them at those times of day.

I tried to telephone him and left a message asking him to 'phone me back. At 4.50 a.m. my husband decided that we would have to drive to the airport and we caught our flight by the skin of our teeth. They were just closing the gate! We had no petrol in our car and had the worry of how we would get home all through our holiday. Not the most relaxing way to start a long awaited vacation. My advice is do not rely on him. We have not heard a word from him and we have been home 2 days. Utterly useless!
