Amazing sushi found in small town outside of Ennis - about 10 miles; it's a gas station and yes, 'we would never eat gas station sushi' but WE DID and loved it. Fresh, options were tremendous - exceptional service and friendly helpful staff as our first visit but not our last. You do buy bottle drinks or take in your own they did not seem to mind our water bottles. Ample paper goods available - picnic type tables inside and out offered with limited parking - free and close. You go in the gas station side to order and they bring it out once order is complete. We had spicy tuna - very good - dragoon roll with fresh jalapenos both very good and would order again. our absolute fav and now go too anytime in the area - Ahi Tuna Tower - $19 but the largest serving we've ever had with fresh fish and the the sauce was perfect which so many places mess up - not here. We'll be making a side trip anytime headed down I-35 to have a cooler and pick up - open 7 days a week but do check as they were closed Easter sunday for family time. read more

After seeing the store featured on the TX Bucket List TV show, my hubby and I were headed to Allen from Houston. We decided to make a little pit stop to this General store. We were able to park our travel trailer across the street and enjoy some sushi outside with our 2 dogs. They do have a nice sized indoor seating section. I order the Texas Tornado as shown on TV. Absolutely delicious. The store also has some fresh baked goods. I did end my meal with a good slice of Churro cheesecake that was individually wrapped to go. Service was excellent. Very, very clean. Okay, so I have to brag on Bristol General Store's items besides their wonderful sushi. We had a chance to order, and pick up, some of their pies and tamales for Thanksgiving. The pies were phenomenal and the tamales were amazing. Now, since my Mom has passed, I haven't had really good tamales in a long while and these were a welcome change. Their staff was, as usual, incredibly helpful and very inviting. So, as much as I speak the praises for their sushi, I would be remiss if I didn't give them a shout out for the great pies and tamales. The interesting feature about this place was that they sold sushi, which isn't a big deal to me, since I don't care for it. If you want sushi from this place, we were informed that they don't offer it on Mondays. They did offer other Asian food as well as regular American fare. You order at the counter inside the general store. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. It was incredible. One of the best cheeseburgers I've had in awhile. It was made fresh to order. My wife ordered the orange chicken with rice. Her meal was pretty good too. You could eat outside or they had an indoor eating area next to the general store. Unfortunately we were here on a Tuesday and they do sushi starting Wednesdays through the weekend. The plus side was they did have tacos and we were told everything was freshly made and it was really good! We got both beef and chicken to try, the chicken was my favorite. We've been to Ennis numerous times over the years; but never to the annual Polka Festival held every Memorial Day holiday weekend. I can tell you this, it's not much fun when it's hot and humid. Most of the attendees retreated to one of the three air conditioned halls to eat and enjoy some Czech polka music. We went to the Visitor's Center, gave the vendor's a once over, discussed the Czech food options and then did something TOTALLY different. Looking over the Yelp restaurant listings, I spotted the Bristol General Store and Grill and saw the word "sushi." I also saw the map. It wasn't in Ennis. It was out in the country! What? Seriously? Wonderful!! Away from the sweltering pavement heat and rolling down a hilly FM two lane road, I immediately felt cooler. Actually in the tiny town of Bristol, The Bristol General Store and Grill is a combination gas station, convenience store and sushi restaurant/sandwich grill that appears like an oasis in the desert. There's a spacious dining room that you enter from the outside after ordering in the convenience store side and you wait there for your order. The older dynamic couple that create the magic here do everything with the help of only one other person - an amiable young guy who cashiers and does other duties as assigned it seems. This is one very busy place. We didn't get crazy and kept it simple; but they have an extensive sushi nigiri, hand roll, sushi roll menu with traditional Fried Rice and Noodle dishes, sandwiches and sides. There's a huge picture menu with descriptions on the wall for the sushi and sushi rolls. Everything is made to order and everything we had was well prepared. The onion rings were exceptional. They were tender and crunchy with a very flavorful batter. My husband's grilled chicken sandwich was plump and juicy. The wasabi was hot and the pickled ginger pungent. Our spicy tuna roll was as advertised and the salmon was tasty, too. What a treasure this place is!! These people are so friendly, too, when they get a minute to talk!! It's so pretty out here on the Ennis North Bluebonnet Trail with the gently rolling hills and beautiful view of distant Dallas. Just out of Bristol, on Sugar Ridge Road, is the Sugar Ridge Winery. Get your food To Go and maybe pop over to the vineyard for a picnic and a little wine tasting! Of course, at Bluebonnet time, keep them in mind and stop and take advantage of this terrific little place out in the middle of the wildflowers! read more

We loved our stop at Bristol General Store. I have never been in such a clean gas station. They have plenty of drinks and snacks but they also have restaurant food to order. The burgers looked amazing but we were told we had to try the sushi! Yes gas station sushi. It was really good. Service was amazing. Everyone there was so kind and helpful. They have picnic tables out front and the. A side room inside that was super clean. And they have live music on Mondays!! Oh and they just got their liquor license so you can stop for a cold beer! We came here as part of our bluebonnet tour. Everyone told us the sushi here is good and we braved the outer appearance of a gas station and general store. The inside is not impressive either, the store itself is very sparse, making me think that people only come here for the sushi. The menu is both on the wall and in a 3-ring binder. We got an avocado roll, California roll, dragon roll, and shrimp tempura. All of them were great! It tasted pretty fresh and there was a ton of avocado, and not rice heavy on all the rolls. They are of course made to order so we waiting about 15 minutes for our order. There is a table right outside the door and some picnic tables around the corner to sit on. the only bathrooms were portable ones though. Parking was tight as well. read more

My husband stopped by one afternoon for some sushi to go. We ordered a handful of sushi and chicken teriyaki and dumplings. They said it would take 30 minutes, luckily we were staying close by so he came home and went back. The rolls and chicken teriyaki were good but the dumplings were way over cooked.
