My children were very excited to meet their dogs and have no problem sitting in the waiting room where they had Fortnite for them to play. They also was able to make appts for all 4 of my children on the same day and follow up appts. I wish my dentist was this awesome

Book more than one appointment at the same day and time, you will get calls and texts, repeatedly, to remind of appointment and to get the insurance details. One text and call would suffice but there is no brain behind the process. Second- Children will not be seen by the same tech nor even in the same vicinity. Disturbed? I was. I'm not talking grown children, I'm talking 4 and 5 year old children. This is the first time this happened but WTH is wrong with the people scheduling these appointments. Third- this is the most deranged in my opinion. Now your two children are separated, if you're standing with your 4 year old be prepared for a dentist to talk and treat your 5 year old child without you speaking to them. No introduction, nothing. Yes, you read that right! A grown person who went to a medical school, talked to a 5 year old without any interaction with the parent prior to touching them. This is the wildest thing you can't even make up! Fourth- Inconsistent information. One tech says don't have your child brush for 6 hours after fluoride. One tech says nothing. My child was walking herself down the hall and all finished up. This place is not good. Granted most of this stems from having children being seen in two different spaces but who is in charge here?! My opinion is this place is not worth your time, energy, patience, money, like there is no reason to partake in the services from this place.

Here with another update. My son had to have some fillings done and unfortunately reacted poorly to…read morethe in office liquid sedation. Dr. Braxton was able to do 2 fillings and then had to stop the procedure and recommended we finish the rest at the hospital under general anesthesia. As you can imagine, my anxiety was through the roof thinking about this. They got me my total and said it was due before the procedure in 2 months. So, the day came when we brought my 3 year old to St. Mary's for the fillings. Dr. Braxton was about 5 hours late. We were told to be there at 8am, and they did not start on Jalen until after 1. He couldn't eat the entire time. I was worried about him getting hungry or restless and I hadn't accounted for having to pump for my infant, so this significant delay really had a negative impact on our experience. We never got any updates from her. I went up to the secretary of the surgical area and all she told me was that "Dr. Braxton was behind". No approximate timing or anything. When the time came to take him back, they did a good job of making sure we were comfortable and checking him over. Dr. Braxton came in briefly beforehand to talk to us, and then off he went. Here's why I'm taking off 2 stars. After Jalen came out of anesthesia, he had a horrible, croupy cough. The nurses took care of him and gave him a treatment, but we were still sent home after one nurse mentioned "oh yeah, he was a little congested going into surgery". We ended up at the ER the very next night because of his cough and breathing. Turns out he had a bad case of croup. I want to know... 1) Why wasn't this detected before surgery? 2) If the nurse noticed he was congested, why did Dr. Braxton follow through with it? 3) Why didn't we receive updates while waiting that insane amount of time before surgery? I just have so many questions. And, a lot of this probably wasn't Toothbeary's fault, but some of it I feel like they could have handled better, like the communication and timing. Although pediatric dentists have nice touches for kids, I think I may just start bringing him to our regular practice to make life a bit easier after this mixed bag of an experience.

The wait time was short & the process for 3 kids was less than one hour! Dr. Braxton and her team are amazing, my children will definitely return. Thank you for such great service!

I rarely write reviews, and the ones I usually write are positive. I went to Virginia Family…read moreDentistry because of the glowing reviews, but my experience was quite different. I've lived in the Richmond area for over 40 years and found their business practices concerning. My 19-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter, and I had appointments last week. After being informed that our new patient visits would total $577 for the same services (since we are self-pay), I agreed to proceed. While I understand my son is an adult, I made it clear that I would be paying for everything. I grew concerned when my dentist suggested pulling a back tooth due to a gap that might cause bacteria issues, despite no current problems plus making recommendation to see their periodontist and pushing a possible the idea of an implant for the tooth; as well as, selling them on their orthodontist after I mentioned that I had seen the orthodontist the day before...which they said they never got x-rays for and it didn't matter because theirs would be different. Additionally, we were told afterward that my daughter's visit would cost $60 more due to extra X-rays, which we were not informed about in advance. It's comparable to a mechanic doing extra work without getting your approval first. I decided to go along with it, appreciating the new patient discount. They then informed us my son would need a deep cleaning instead of a regular one and scheduled it for this week, again without giving any pricing information. When he asked if there would be extra costs, they implied there shouldn't be. Later, we found out this service would cost over $200. This was surprising since we were told otherwise, and they knew I was responsible for the payments. When I asked why we didn't receive a discount for my son's previous visit since he didn't get a cleaning the first time, they said his services were different. How? When the whole purpose of the visit was for a check up and cleaning. After speaking with the office manager, Lauren, I felt unheard and unacknowledged as a customer. She did not apologize or address my concerns, only defending their position. As a business coach and consultant, I've rarely encountered such poor customer service communication outside of the restaurant industry. We ultimately decided not to proceed with the additional service. Virginia Family Dentistry's communication with patients is lacking at best and unethical at worst. They lost out on over $1,500 of upcoming services we would have needed and the lifetime value of a customer. Choose carefully! They will not be getting any recommendations from me. It's noteworthy that they've disabled reviews on Facebook, which might explain the abundance of positive reviews here. I prefer practices that prioritize people over profits and are not influenced by private equity.

It was at that time that I asked for a referral, and he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry Orthodontist. And I have to admit that was the BEST recommendation anyone could have EVER given me. From the very first moment I walked through their doors, I was greeted so warmly that I knew I was in the right place. Their receptionist and front office personnel are very warm, inviting, and professional. But it didn't stop there. The initial process was informative with the comfort and ease necessary to help me make a decision. After that first visit, I was sold! When the day came to receive my braces, I was so excited! Their caring service, is by far the BEST! And they worked within my budget and I couldn't be happier. My regular dentist, who I've been with for 15 years, really gave me an EXCELLENT referral when he recommended Virginia Family Dentistry. They are now my favorite place to visit. I'm so glad I listened to my dentist!
