I have always had good teeth, so I was surprised when my last new dentist (before Dr. Horri) told me that I needed two fillings. It was rather shocking to have the first cavities of my life at 30! Anyway, one of the fillings was extremely painful for months afterward and the dentist who did the work wanted to redo the filling, saying "I might have cracked your tooth". Needless to say I was in the market for a new dentist and a friend of mine (knowing I was going to NY) referred me to Dr. Horri. She agreed to see me even though she really does cosmetic stuff. I was so happy with her, that now I go there when I need to see the dentist. She earned my trust by explaining that minor decay in the enamel can just as well be watched and given extra brushing etc. She didn't see a reason to make a bigger hole for no reason. It really made me wonder if I needed that painful filling in the first place. Anyway - besides knowing that I can count on her not to pressure me into treatments that I don't need - I got my teeth whitened, just a little botox, and lips plumped (that was conservatively done as well - so my mouth doesn't look like an inner tube). After looking at all the before and afters from the major mouth makeovers, I was almost convinced that I should have veneers - she talked me out of that! read more

I went in to see Dr. Lee for a routine check up /cleaning at first due to the convenient location to my office in midtown (Rockefeller Center) & I was VERY satisfied with my experience there. I enjoyed the fact that I wasn't being rushed while he was doing his procedure and I appreciated the fact that he patiently answer all my questions. Matter of fact, he was so informative about the questions about nightguard (for grinding teeth) that I went back a couple of weeks later to get a nightguard made by him. The process was seamless and I was in and out in during my lunch break. Now I'm enjoying my perfectly fitting nightguard which has improved my sleeping dramatically. Overall, this has been my 3rd dentist since I moved to NYC and it looks like I'll be sticking with this one for a while. read more

When I visited Dr. Horri's office, I realized that she does a lot of cosmetic dentistry. I was so afraid that she would try to convince me to get veneers over my teeth the moment I open my mouth, like every other dentist I have seen in the past. Instead, she was more interested in talking to me about my teeth and what I knew about them. I learned for the first time that I have "class 3 malocclusion" - an underbite! But the experience wasn't discouraging, she praised me for how clean, white and unique my teeth are... :) She also had a different opinion, than my previous dentists, about my partially impacted wisdom teeth. Over the years, I have had issues keeping them clean and Dr. Horri suggested that check with an oral surgeon. It turns out that all I need is a minor surgery that will help me keep my teeth and gums healthy. She did mock up the veneers for me to see, but I didn't feel like I was being pushed to get them. She wanted me to consult with the other doctors about my wisdom teeth and the underbite before considering anything cosmetic. Dr. Horri really is a 5-star dentist. Her and her office assistant Kristy are the most respectful and helpful people I have ever encountered in a medical/dental office. read more

I did not have a good experience with Dr. Horri nor her office. Dr. Horri suggested I receive extensive cosmetic work, and when I asked if there were any other lower cost options for my problem, she claimed there were not -- especially none that her office would do, because she only offers "the best" options. Well, it's easy to get "the best" if you're willing to spend $25K to $30K (her quote) on dental work. Furthermore, the hygienist taking my xrays seemed quite inexperienced and it was the longest and most painful dental xray process I have ever had (xrays have actually never been painful before). I am now going for other opinions, but of course I had to pay $50 to have her office email me copies of my own xrays. Terrible and frustrating experience. read more

I was shocked when she was trying to sell me Invisalign while sitting in the chair - I've never been told by a dentist that I need braces or else it would effect my professional life...?? Seriously? In 2010, I randomly booked a cleaning through my insurance company's website, solely because the location was convenient to my office. Six years later, I'm still a devoted patient and actually look forward to my twice-a-year cleanings with Dr. Horri. Besides being a great dentist, she takes the time to get to know her patients and actually asks (and remembers) tidbits about your life. (She also gives great book recommendations and travel advice! I've had friends, whom I've referred to the practice, ask me, "How do you guys chat so much during appointments?" Good question, come to think of it.) Her staff is extremely professional and is totally on top of confirming appointments and checking up on details with your insurance company and relaying that information to you ASAP so you don't have to do it yourself. The office itself is very clean, and appointments always start on time (huge for me since I no longer work in midtown but continue to go to Dr. Horri anyway). I had a great experience when I went for a checkup and x-rays. I was taken through my x-rays and was told how to improve my gums and brushing technique. I always had awful teeth, crowded, chipped and stained. I was told by one dentist he needed to pull 8 teeth, put me on minimum 2 years of braces and then he said my teeth would still not look anywhere close to 'great' looking. For that I would then have to laser my teeth and crown another 10. So I gave up! Last April my girl friend who works for 'one of the networks' said I must try Dr. Horri, who had put veneers anews anchor at the newwork. She said it was "magic". So I went to see her hoping to finally get a workable answer. She explained even though she could give me invisalign to straighten my teeth, at the end I would still have to cover my teeth with veneers to make them look perfect mainly because my teeth had uneven wear at the tips. So she proposed to just bleach my teeth (rather than laser them), and then laminate the top teeth to correct both the chips and overlaps. It was truly magic. At the end of the first visit, I walked out with perfect, clean and straight teeth as I always wanted. It took another 2 visits until it was all done but at the end I loved my new teeth so much that I asked her to do the same on the bottom. This is where she said laminates are not the answer. She recommended to straighten them with invisalign. I tried it because i had nothing to loose and it would cost as much. I must admit, the invisalign took a bit of getting used to. It remionded me of my contacts. After a while I forgot it was there and would attempt to eat with them....but you can't. And always need to carry a brush. Kind of high maintenance. After I bleached them, she evened out the tips and they are just perfect. In both cases she gave me great advice, saved me money and gave me teeth better than I ever expected. She is fun to work with. Her assistant Kristy could not be nicer. Truly a 5-star experience. read more

I'm a pretty pain adverse person in general, but Dr. Emily Kim was really friendly and made me feel very comfortable during my visit. I had some x-rays taken to check for cavities. Dr. Emily Kim then gave me a very thorough teeth cleaning. She explained to me the importance of flossing, using mouthwash, and getting regular teeth cleanings to help prevent / minimize cavities and gingivitis. This indeed needs clarification. Dr. Horri does not extract teeth, does root canals, or any other heavy lifting work and she indeed invites other doctors or refers(obviously in this case apart from paying for the services with the specialists, you will be paying for a"consultation" with D. Horri). However she does install crowns on top of the implant base. And during this process all the issues discussed in my review occurred. read more

I first visited Dr. Horri 17 years ago upon recommendation from my dentist. I had a bite issue which was causing small, visible benign growths on my lower lip. Two surgeries removed the growths but did not correct the bite issue and I did not want to undergo a third surgery. In addition, my teeth were yellowing and could benefit from cosmetic attention. Dr. Horri did a beautiful reconstruction of my upper front teeth. My smile dramatically improved and, equally important, she corrected the bite problem. I don't have any more growths and my teeth look white and beautiful. This is a remarkable achievement. Soon after Dr. Horri treated me, I was asked to appear before a group of dentists for a class they were taking to update and maintain their credentials. All of them understood what Dr. Horri had accomplished and agreed that both the health and cosmetic results are superb. Peer review by fellow practitioners is the highest recommendation a doctor can receive, and Dr. Horri deserves it. She is a highly professional, dedicated, fastidious and conscientious dentist. I find her to be one of those rare doctors who considers the "whole patient" including, of course, dental health, correctable cosmetic problems and the patient's overall well being, health and appearance. This is very important to me and in conformity with what I consider to be the best in current medical practice. I recently needed work on my lower front teeth involving restoration of chipped teeth, cosmetic improvement and treatment for decay. Given that the work that Dr. Horri did seventeen years ago remains in beautiful shape and NEVER caused me a problem, I knew she would be the right professional for me. This was a great comfort as I made my decision to proceed with the significant work I needed. Dr. Horri's staff is attentive, professional and closely supervised. I went to see Dr Maryam Horri on a recommendation from a friend. Wow I was so thrilled with my visit! First, she really took her time to give me an examination and talk to me. She really paid attention; it seemed to me like she really loved being a dentist. I hadn't experienced that before. and its very nice. I discovered, this office is no treadmill or machine; it's personalized service! Also, with her great tools and equipment and sincere effort, she Removed (in the teeth cleaning) all the stains my previous dentist said he Couldnt remove! In the teeth cleaning! I always worry a lot about going to the dentist. I am afraid of getting poked or hurt. But because she cleaned all those tough stains without hurting me - she gets my vote as BEST DENTIST EVER. Turns out she is a cosmetic dentist; I saw in her waiting room a photo book of all her work. She told me whys and hows of what I could have done. She had so many better reasons to do it and why. Also, she had an assistant there with her, a professional, who was very attentive and caring. Lastly, one more thing: My appointment was Next Day. By far, the worst dentist I've had, hands down. Convinced me to get completely unnecessary porcelain work on my back teeth. Worse, she charged me the same price for an onlay the same as a full porcelain crown -- all work that was deemed unnecessary by two other dentists after, especially since I needed a root canal later (less than a year). I have her number stored as Dr. HorriD. DO NOT GO TO HER. She is a sweet person, but, as a dentist, I would give her 0 stars if I could, only because of her practices. read more
