DO NOT RECOMMEND this credit union. I have been a customer since I moved to Florida from California in 2022. I used BrightStar to refinance my car. I have made over $19k in payments and my loan has only decreased $7k. There are many months where zero of my payment was applied towards principle and it's all gone to interest alone. Further. I had 24 day lapse in insurance coverage and they charged me $569 for TWENTY FOUR days. This is almost what I pay for a 6 month policy. BrightStar are thieves. DO NOT use them!!!! Their customer service is unprofessional, unprepared, and completely indifferent to the needs of their members. The fees are outrageously high, and there are zero advantages that a real credit union is supposed to offer. It feels like nothing more than a bank façade pretending to be a credit union while offering none of the benefits and all of the frustrations. I honestly believe this institution needs to be audited and investigated by the appropriate banking regulatory agency. Their practices, lack of transparency, and poor treatment of members require immediate attention and possible penalties. I regret ever opening an account here. I have to start writing this review to speak about a representative, Martina Valle from the Cooper City branch. My husband and I applied for an auto loan refinance on March 4, we sent all the required documentation and so far , not a single answer from her, even though I have email her 3 times to find out if there are any updates , you can't leave her a voicemail because is full. I don't know what happened to the customer service at that institution. They need to train their employees to respond to their potential clients even if is a negative response. I have banked with Bright Star for a number of years. Compare to other big banks I have dealt with, I find the quality of their service has been mostly good. Since I do most of my business online, I rarely go to the branch to complete my transactions. However, since the mobile deposit can only accept checks up to a certain amount, I have no choice but to go into a branch and make the deposit in person. In this visit, I came by during my lunch hour. The branch looked pretty simple. Just a small waiting area with a few desks for the personal bankers, but I didn't see any. There was only one customer in line when I arrive so I got my turn pretty quickly. The teller behind the desk was pretty friendly and polite. I handed in my deposit was in and out in about 5 minutes. But I would still get my cash at Publix ATMs since they are free of charge. read more

This Bank does not offer zelle which everybody uses nowadays for payments or whatever but otherwise the bank is awesome for loans accounts and many other things but not carrying zelle makes people want to leave to find the bank that does how's the saying go it's time to get up with the times just my opinion they gave me the excuse that chase and Bank of America had issues with zelle so that's preventing them from adding zelle but Bright Star Credit Union has a great watch system to where problems won't happen or fraud Chase and Bank of America have so much fraud and they're about to be shut down read more

Banked with them for 1 year and it was the worst mistake ever. I had a 2 checking accounts with them. One of them was overdrawn due to fraud and they requested I pay the negative amount to put the account in good standing. After making payments and working with their resolutions department, they closed the checking account that was in "good standing" on error, took my direct deposit and processed it into the fraud account, sent a notice (without my consent) to my employer telling them to deposit my money into the fraud account, and STILL closed both accounts. The employers of Brightstar credit union are the real SCAMMERS!!! My employer tried to void the direct deposit and it was rejected by the bank. They are the devil and will pay for this! read more

The teller working the drive thru window at the Pompano Beach BSCU needs more training. She doesn't understand what "First come First served" means. I waited in the drive thru for 20 minutes wondering what happened to my simple deposit; while she kept doing transactions for cars that drove up AFTER me. When I complained and asked where my deposit was, she got snarky with me. I should have been the 2nd transaction, but she made me wait longer than all other cars. I guess she couldn't see my SUV in line!!!! read more

My experience with Brightstar in Margate has been for the most part good. I experienced several fraudulent debits to my checking account and visited the branch to complete the forms required to report the fraud. I am mortified that I do not remember the name of the young lady that served me at the bank. She was wonderful. She very patiently explained how these issues were handled. She assisted me in completing the form and explained what would happen next. My debit card was cancelled, a replacement card was overnighted to me. I did receive a credit for the fraudulent debits. My card was "blocked" and I discovered this when I attempted to use it at a Starbucks. There was no phone call or email or text from the bank. By the time I used the card and discovered it was "blocked", 3 unauthorized debits had occurred. I do wish that Brightstar had a better system of notification for "suspicious" debits to my account. I have discussed this with several friends who bank with institutions that have very sophisticated programs in place to advise the customer of 'suspicious' debits BEFORE they actually occur. For the most part the tellers have been pleasant. Some of them great and some of them just OK. Sometimes the lines to be served by a teller are quite long and the wait is equally long. I use my card at the Publix ATM very frequently at no cost. I have been their customer for 5 years and thus far have no reason to switch to another institution. read more

Margate location: 3175 N State Road 7 Pompano Beach, FL 33063 My husband and I went to open an account at the branch located in SR 7, in Margate since we decided not to support mega banks any longer. We went to see the teller and asked a couple of questions about the different account options available. She was extremely rude and refused to provide the information requested. My husband and I went to see the manager whom was even worst than the teller. The manager was very unprofessional and demeaning. We told her we would report her behavior to the regional manager, she got extremely mad and started screaming in front of all the customers present. We would never go back to that credit union, We don't recommend anybody to go through the hassles we went through. read more

I have been a customer of BrightStar for over 10 years. I have banked at almost all of their locations. All of my dealings with them have been very good. I have not had any rude tellers or office managers. I love the no cost checking and savings. The loan process is easy with below market interest rates. The only downside is the limited number of branches however you can use your debit card at any Publix so that makes up for it. The new branch in Pompano is a big plus too. read more

Never Ever open an account at Bright Star! one of the worst decisions i have ever made. thinking is was a good idea to belong to a credit union, i opened an account online, could not get in the account ever again, emails and messages left with no response. received debit card in mail, used it and received bounce fees, after waiting on hold with the most annoying music and promo ads for 2 hours (they hope you hang up) spoke to Sebastian, who tells me my initial deposit was put in a savings account and when i used my debit card it actually had no money in it but as a courtesy Bright Star let the charges got through, lol, each bounce fee is worth 34.00 dollars to Bright Star. the supervisor Adriana (andy) from the corporate offices would only refund one fee!!! corporate greed at it's finest, customer service at it's lowest, heartless. i wanted to close the account but guess what? they can't do that over the phone. you have been warned. how do people live with themselves screwing people over. I use to belong to a credit union up in PA where I am from. I never really used my account it was just there as a security blanket for savings. I was a loyal TD bank customer since 2008 and used them as my main means of banking. I moved to FL in June of 2016 and after living in FL for 2 years I finally am making the switch back to a credit union. My boyfriend had suggested BrightStar because he had used it to communicate with his business accounts in PA. The staff at Pompano Beach is great! Always there to serve and help! Narima, the branch manager has gone above and beyond to help me with my transition. To them I am not another number, I am a member which to me makes a world of difference. From the time that I opened the account to the time that I closed it, which was only a matter of a few months, I never had a staff member smile or be courteous. They act as if you are bothering them.
