Scheduling with them initially was a little confusing - first we were messaging through Yelp, then text, then they sent me to their website. They were communicative but I never knew which channel to reach out to first. They did come out quickly which was appreciated. The first two gentleman that came to replace my fan and fix my ceiling light were not great. They would look at something, and then disappear and call someone and be on the phone with someone while they were looking at the fan or light fixture, almost like they were calling someone and asking them what they should do. Shouldn't they know? They were at my house for HOURS. WAY longer than I think they should have been. They would just look at the light fixture and talk to each other for like 5 minutes, then step out to make a phone call, then come back and start working on it. Over and over and over. They took a brand new fan out of the box and replaced it, but it wobbled like crazy (turns out they just didn't put the fan together really well because the second guys that came back made it much better). When they replaced my dimmer switch and celiing light, it looked AWFUL. Wasn't flush to the ceiling at all. They told me just to patch it, but this clearly needed more than a patch! I couldn't believe they just left it like that. I called and told them I was unhappy with their work, and they offered to come back and fix it. The second guys that came back were in and out so fast. They fixed the light and it looks perfect, just as it should. Clearly the first guys that came out had no idea what they were doing. Disappointed to have had a less than stellar experience, considering how highly reviewed they are. It must depend on what service folks you have come out to actually do the work.

I tried flipping everything off and on again -- no dice. East West came by the next day and diagnosed the problem methodically and carefully. They went through the bedroom first to establish the state of the electrical load and got a hot ground reverse reading. Look that up if, like me, you don't know what it means. Then they went through all the circuit breakers in my main panel and subpanel to establish which circuit the room was on. They found it on a circuit that, frankly, surprised me, because it also had some other unrelated rooms on it. At this point, they suspected some miswiring between the panels that had occurred when our solar system was installed. A couple times during this process, they also went into the overhead crawlspace to trace the circuit physically. During the second trip up there, we stumbled onto an epiphany: "CJ, there's a wire heading into your garage up here. What's over there?" "Oh, um... there's another panel in there that I forgot to tell you about." "I think we should look at that." Turns out that the third panel had a loose wire in it that was causing the problem! During this process, they explained to me everything they were seeing and considering. I learned a lot about circuits and amperage. At the end, they cleaned up after themselves, suggested I repaint my overhead access with oil-based paint to make it easier to wipe down, and charged me a fair price. Sean came by to give me an inspection and an estimate, but while pushing the breakers back in so at least my fridge would run, there was another arc, and a glob of molten aluminum dropped down from the meter. At that point it moved on from estimate to immediate repair. He disconnected everything, went out and bought an all-new panel and breakers and re-fitted the new buss bar and connections into the existing box. The fact that I'm writing this now shows he was successful; everything is back up and better than new, at a price I figured would be double what it was. He came to check out the problem and give me a quote. Overall, he was thorough in explaining stuff. What rubbed me the wrong way was how after I asked him for a quote and told him I have one other person checking it out to give me a quote, his tone changed. I explained that this is an expensive project and it would be dumb to just get your price and go with it without checking with at least one other company. I'm not made out of money here. He then gave me the quote and it was literally like twice the range of most panel upgrades. I get that you're licensed, but so are most of these companies. I feel like because of my situation (Edison had cut the power to my place), he was just taking advantage. Admittedly, I was desperate to get it fixed, but I'm not going to pay almost 12k for something that costs around 5k. So he gives me the quote breakdown and four options (all way over average prices), and then I say thanks and that again, someone is also going to stop by and take a look and I'll text him either way. He then gave me a guilt trip about how they reserved the day for me and how it sucks that I'm not just taking the job. At that point, even if the second guy wasn't going to work out, I was not going with this company. Fortunately, the second guy (also licensed) that came was able to pull some strings and get everything done --meter checked, permitted--the next day for a fraction of what Ready Electric quoted me. Power is back on and I didn't spend more than I needed to. For those of you needing electric work: shop around. Oftentimes we need this kind of work done ASAP, but companies will definitely take advantage as was this case. 3 stars because they responded quick and did explain things thoroughly. Clarification based on Ready Electric's reply: The quote was $11,600 for a standard panel upgrade. Yes, my panel was in bad shape, but I was not misrepresenting the situation. If anything, to suggest that your most affordable option was $1k when it was really (according to you) not really an option at all (with zero warranty even) and to leave out your main recommendation (the panel upgrade) is misrepresentative. I credit you for going out of your way and explaining stuff, and I would imagine that as a business, that part of the getting business is time-consuming. Apparently there was an inspection fee that was waived, and the gentlemen that came even asked, "how did you get the inspection fee waived?" Well, no fee was ever mentioned upon calling and making an appointment, and had there been, I would have never made the appointment in the first place. You mentioned that you understand people would get a second opinion and that's good; however, the whole reason I wrote my review (which I rarely do) was because of the guilt trip I was given for doing so. It was unnecessary and a poor persuasion technique. If I were to have said I have another guy coming to get a second opinion and you were like, "absolutely, just let us know if you decide to move forward with us," I would have never wrote my review, or I would've written one that praised the thoroughness of your quoting process. Also, the guy I went with was a referral from my brother's current contractor, but he has never worked with any of us directly. So we didn't have an existing relationship or anything. In fact, when I told him what i was quoted, he laughed and said that's just people trying to take advantage. Again, the point of my review was ultimately to warn people to shop around and not go with the first quote you get, especially if you're in a pinch like I was.
