Recently our child transited to a new classroom and he seems to really enjoy his time with Ms. Rasheeda! They made genuine efforts to listen to our concerns and try to support our 2.5 year transition into LSP. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the reality in the classroom did not match what we were promised or hoped for. We chose Little Sunshine's Playhouse expecting nurturing and structured environment with manageable ratios and true individualized care. Given that LSP charges top-of-the-market premium tuition compared to other local schools we toured and the one we have attended previously ($975 for two days a week to be exact) we expected adequate classroom staffing and support at the minimum. Instead, in the short time we took our son, we observed teachers who appeared unfriendly, overworked, overwhelmed, and left without assistance during critical drop-off and pick-up windows. While the facility abides by Texas state minimum ratios, those state minimums left for unsafe situations and left them with little capacity to welcome a a very anxious and nervous child into a new environment. Some examples: During a drop-off, there was 11 toddlers under the care of one teacher: There was one child standing on top of a table, while the teacher was trying to potty train another child in the bathroom- leaving him on the toilet unattended, the teacher then was then left with the impossible task of managing both safety concerns while trying to emotionally support our son as he struggled with the transition and was crying. She tried her best, but that is just too much for one person to juggle. On his first day, neither the main teacher or her assistant took the time to lift their heads up from their tasks to come introduce themselves to us or greet our son and on that same day at pick up, I observed one singular teacher in the bathroom with a child while the remainder of the class was on a rug unattended by any other adult in the room and the floors were soaking wet from just being mopped and my son was on his hands and knees on the wet floor rubbing his hands in the cleaner and his pants were wet. Why was the floor wet with toddlers in the room and no adult supervision? and on a few occasions I observed mutliple children hitting one another without any adult intervention due to lack of supervision when I sat with him during drop offs. Leaving a child in an environment where staff are stretched so thin that basic safety and emotional support are compromised was heartbreaking and this was just a few examples of the mostly stressful and chaotic drop offs and pick ups I observed. While I tried to be understanding and maybe we caught them in a bad week or two of staffing, I cannot justify leaving my son there when those are my only impressions of how the day is going aside from pictures on an app. We have requested an immediate withdrawal of our son's enrollment. While the management is polite and really tried to fix the situation and the location is beautiful, charging premium pricing without providing sufficient staffing support for teachers leaves children, parents and especially teachers in an unfair, high-stress position. Overall, the energy and vibe of that particular classroom was off and hard to ingnore.

First Foundations Preschool - Best Preschool in Austin!

My son wasn't speaking too much before starting school but after his first year he was speaking full and complete sentences and writing. The teachers there are amazing! They all either had their own kids go through FFP or have taught there for 10+ years. Everyone just seems to be one big family there. My son is now onto kindergarten and my daughter will start her first year there come August. I have nothing but nice things to say about FFP and the wonderful people there.

First Foundations served as our family's first experience with preschool, and for that we are so…read moreextremely thankful. Our shy little daughter just blossomed at this school, to the extent that our friends and extended family remarked on the change in her confidence and demeanor. I'm admittedly a pretty anxious mama bear and I am still, a year later, so shocked at how seamless the adjustment to going to preschool felt for both my daughter and for myself. There were no tears from my little one when I dropped her off, but on more than one occasion she was adamant that she didn't want to leave the school when I picked her up. I could write paragraph upon paragraph, but I'll try to keep it short and sweet because I know firsthand how much energy it takes to search for that perfect fit. Here are some of the aspects that stood out to me! - The whole entire staff here is so wonderful. The director, Mrs. Wilkins, truly pours her heart into her school. She knows and loves each child and greets them by name. She also personally ran my daughter's lunch box/jacket/show and tell item down to her classroom on the more than one occasion that I completely forgot those items in a sleep deprived haze. Our daughter's teachers, Mrs. Gamoneda and Mrs. Pallota, were so kind and loving. Our kiddo can be stubborn, and she started the school year insisting that she didn't want finger paint on her hands. Mrs. G and Mrs. P worked with her, encouraging but never pushing (they even asked my husband and myself if there was any sort of alternative glue or paint she might find more tolerable), and our daughter was beaming with pride when she presented us with a finger painted keepsake a few weeks later. I said I'd keep this short, so bullet points for the rest. - All of the teachers are very qualified. - The school is clean and the teachers had the children wash their hands several times every day even in a pre-coronavirus world. - There are all sorts of fun theme days, class parties and a Christmas program. - This was my daughter's takeaway from our initial tour - two playgrounds! Here is my takeaway - two safe, age appropriate playgrounds that are fenced in. - In addition to the classroom, the children attend Chapel, Spanish and music class (we had the opportunity to observe a bit of the music class on our tour, and the kids were having so much fun). - A perfect combination of play based learning and learning skills that will be needed in kindergarten (our 4 y/o is now able to write her name but she had a lot of fun at school too) - The teachers incorporate super cool activities (a volcano, a caterpillar that turns into a butterfly, a classroom full of tents, reading Biblical stories via blacklight) into their daily lesson plans. - The school is safety minded. This was huge for me. - If you have a baby on your hip, everyone will help you. :) There is a wonderful drop off program, actually, in which teachers are in charge of getting kids from your car. It's very safe and coordinated well. - The school has a bridge program and a kindergarten program. This is actually how I learned about First Foundations. It's seriously the best school, and the only thing I would ever change about it is that I wish our kids could attend for a couple more years.

Class sizes are small and every teacher there knows my children, even if they were not their specific teacher, which makes me feel like we are a part of a family. Facility is always clean, bright and comfortable. The staff are always smiling and genuinely happy to see the kids. They are open and willing to accommodate to my children's dietary needs and allow cloth diapering. My daughter attended for 4 years and loved every minute. She wanted to get there early and stay late every day. She is currently 9 years old and going into 4th grade. She is a TAG student and does well in all her classes. My son is 4 and is a current student. He loves his teachers and comes home everyday with proud stories of what he learned and the fun time he had with his teachers and friends. He comes home saying new Spanish words every week and seems to be understanding more and more since he first started 2 years ago. All of the achievements and happiness that my children have experienced while at the Ivy International School is because of the knowledgable and warm hearts of the staff which pours down from the top. Esmeralda, the director, always has a smile on her face to greet the children when they arrive. She clearly communicates upcoming deadlines and events. And is in the classrooms daily to help out wherever needed whether that means to clean a spill, assist a teacher or wipe a butt. When times were hard for us as a family, she was understanding, flexible and a great support for both myself and my daughter. I recently moved to Round Rock and the drive takes me 30-45 mins on some days but I wouldn't have it any other way because I know it is what is best for my child.

In my opinion, it is a lot of marketing + optics and not a whole lot of substance. There are some AMAZING teachers who are the heart of this school, but most end up leaving. It's the leadership/owners that need change - overall I found them defensive, retaliatory, and most concerned with controlling a narrative for the sake of their business, which is a shame because it once felt like a dream school. Say something they don't like? They will block you online or unenroll you from the school. The owner will infiltrate parent chats on a private app and attempt to start drama over them instead of using the opportunity to do better. Ask them for clarity on something like why their teacher is suddenly gone? You might get three different answers. We often felt like they thought we were gullible. Any time they get a bad review, a handful of 5 star ones magically appear, with one of the latest showing an accidental "Should I tweak anything?" at the bottom. Whoops. This feels extremely misleading to prospective families who are trying to decide where to enroll their precious babies and who to give their hard-earned money to. We hardly ever knew who was caring for our children everyday. There was such high teacher turnover and new aides subbing in who were lovely, but not qualified to lead classroom instruction. Children struggled emotionally with the constant changing of teachers. There was no syllabus or curriculum plan shared with parents. But they had no problem sending a plethora of generic AI-generated communications, which was odd and not particularly useful or informative to parents. It feels like a daycare in survival mode, while trying to maintain the image of a Montessori that is worth the tuition you are paying. Oftentimes the ratios felt incredibly high. Parents submitted complaints. Teachers noted they were struggling and didn't always have adequate support or supplies. When children would get hurt, teachers would sometimes not have the bandwidth to communicate properly about it and parents would have to seek information from the school. With all of this said, I really hope they find a better path forward and in my opinion that begins with a good look in the mirror and taking accountability. The feedback you are receiving might not feel good, but it's a great way to identify opportunities to be better. I would stop blaming everyone around you and learn that it's okay to be wrong and make change. In fact, many parents would have absolutely extended more grace if the leadership was more humble, honest, professional, and open to real dialogue for the benefit of our children - and the wonderful teachers who work so hard to help them learn and grow.
