Services at Sugar Mama's are by appointment only and that is a hard and fast rule since she is a single-woman shop. This isn't your run-of-the-mill spa that you find on every other block. Sugar Mama's is a professional business who supplies quiet and relaxing one-on-one services to her clients. This fact alone, makes Sugar Mama's stand out above the competition. And her StyleSeat reviews are all stellar: https://www.styleseat.com/jessicawest?pref=search&rank=1&q=sugar+mama%27s+beauty+bar

I do not recommend this place and will never again, and here's why…read more I want to start out by saying, I have gone to Sugar Mama's Beauty Bar for the last 5 years. For many services, every 4 weeks. I have recommended many people to this business along with being happy with the results. That said, I have had the worst experience from there in the last week. First of all, my original appointment on 5/26/17 was cancelled. Jessica Fitzgerald (West), the owner, said she had an emergency. No problem, I'd been seeing her for many years, this is not the first time I had been cancelled on and I totally understand that emergencies happen. I then re-booked an appointment for 6/8/17. I couldn't remember what time I booked the appointment so I went onto her website to check, it showed cancelled. No notice, no nothing. I then texted Jessica asking if she accidentally cancelled that one too, assuming it was an error. I still needed a sugaring at this point. I asked her if she could stay late or come in a little early as this cancellation was not told to me. I was willing to be flexible, but needed her to be also. I asked her multiple times to give me a day that worked best for her. She never did. Said I needed to go book time on her website and that it wasn't her fault that they had been cancelled. I assumed she would be a smart enough business woman, to understand if she made a mistake to own it and be willing to fit for a long time customer. She wasn't. Her responses were rude and unprofessional. Saying "What can't you believe? That I'm not being over backwards to rip out your crotch hair out when there is a million other places you can go because my schedule doesn't work with yours?...you are being such a princess. I don't need this stupidity in my life." Mind you, she picked a profession that "rips out crotch hair" and I guess I was "being a princess" because she wouldn't help figure out a time that worked for both of us, after cancelling TWO appointments in the last week. Needless to say, I will never be going back and you shouldn't either. If you would like to actually have your appointments kept and someone professional, do not go here. Update: After posting this review Jessica again decided to text me about how I am "a piece shit" and that she "called the police and contacted her lawyer". Again showing how unprofessional she is behaving and all over a Facebook/ yelp review. If you don't want the drama, stay away from this place.

I'm a little disturbed by another reviewer who made allegations about "vaccine" status etc as it's none of our business to know the personal medical info of a professional doing treatments as it in no way affects the client. You have more chance of catching hepatitis or norovirus from eating at an eatery than you do catching covid from professional skin services. Cassandra has always worn gloves and masks when doing treatments and to top it off she has written Covid safety and sanitation protocols for the esthetics industry that other estheticians have put into place in their own practice.

I texted Cassandra asking if I was in the right place and she said she'd be up in a minute. I waited for about 10 minutes when she showed up without a mask on which was immediately unnerving to me. On the door to the business is the photo posted below-her website doesn't provide any information about her stance on vaccines. Had she had made it clear on her website that she is against vaccines and the science behind them, I would have never made the appointment. Aside from her blatant disregard for public health, Cassandra was extremely rude to me. I left just a few minutes into it because I was so uncomfortable. I'm not sure if she was being particularly rude to me because she could tell I was uncomfortable from her not wearing a mask/her sign or if she treats every customer this way. I've never been spoken to the way she did by a 'professional' in the beauty/health/wellness industry. It was as if she was mad at ME for being there! I thought maybe I had booked the wrong thing online, so a minute into her brash line of questioning I apologized and said, "oh I'm sorry I thought I booked a consultation," she responded in a condescending tone saying, "I know-this is me consulting you." It's concerning that this person is claiming a 'science based' approach to her work when it's very clear that she is not aligned with the scientific community. I'd caution anyone to patronize this business, particularly during this omicron surge.

You also are asking me to wait until Tuesday for the review when my concerns were brought on Friday. Worst. Haircut. Ever. If you would like to waste 2 hours on a haircut that should have been completed in 45 minutes, all while listening to far too personal baby daddy stories shared by your nice, but unskilled, stylist, then this is the salon for you! What was that? Should I have said something? Well, I did. That's when the less than 100% fabulous customer service kicked in. I sent photos and messages documenting the haircut. I asked for a refund. After all, that was $90 for the haircut that looks like the craft scissor haircut my friend's daughter gave herself when she was 5. They want to "fix" it. There's barely any hair left to "fix" and also, no. You have lost my trust. Just refund the money. Here's my story: I chose one of my reference images (the one with green highlights) directly from their website based on cut and type of color, highlights with a fashion color. What could possibly go wrong? There is a person there who literally can cut the cut I want the picture proved it, right? The scheduler said she knew exactly who to book me with, but let's do a color consultation first for $60. I countered with, let's schedule the cut and the stylist, and I can discuss color then. At my appointment, I showed the stylist a carefully curated set of images, cut images, and the cut I wanted in pics of me when I had that cut. This is important because, I should back up and say I was asking for a pixie cut. I explained that I wanted my already short hair to be styled into a long banged, messy pixie with wispy tendrils by my ears. This would require trimming bangs, texturizing the longer "bob" sides and back. An hour in, I knew far too much about her personal life, and half my hair was clippered and way too short. Then she said, " Hey, maybe we should leave the other side as it is (when I came in)". Um, what? I asked to see the back. It had been clippered and the long hair on top laid on it like a rug. Zero texture. Um... the back of my head looks like a triangle? Can you please fix it? She did, kinda. Now, it's at mile marker two hours, and I am late. She was still not done. I told her I had to go and that I would have to settle for what I have. I left, put my hat on, and cried. But that was after I was also charged a service fee to tip. Next comes the customer service: After work, I took my hat off to discover that you could see my scalp in places. I have virtually no bangs, and it is waaaaay worse than I thought. I immediately emailed with pics. Their response, thanks for the feedback. I called and asked someone from their leadership to call me back. Nope, no call. Fast forward to the next day and several emails later, and the owner said you can either come in (next week) or "this matter is closed". Charming. I've had pixie cuts for 20 years. This was not a texture things or even a miscommunication. It was a failure of the scheduler, the stylist, and ultimately the owner. That stylist needs to be trained better and should have never been given me as a client. And the owner, well, just rude. When did customer service become so rare? Guess they must be doing well if they don't need new customers. There's more, but I am tired of typing. I don't usually leave reviews. Update: to be clear I did not decline the review. I declined a review without the possibility of a refund. You also are asking me to wait until Tuesday for the review when my concerns were brought on Friday.
