We took our son to the Bridgewater for his birthday on May 28th. He's still talking about how great our meal was. The great waiter, Justin, recommended a chicken breast sandwich as his favorite dish. A sandwich over more expensive entrees! Well, we all ordered the sandwich and it was almost indescribably good - a moist chicken breast with melted Brie on a large hard bread with fig jam and caramelized small onions. We also shared an amazing sautéed tuna appetizer. Two people ordered a recommended red wine. The food was exceptionally delicious and Justin's service was Superb! Bravo Bridgewater. Enjoyed our first visit - wine tasting was great. Love all the details. It's evident Doug knows his wine. We had the Crab Cake Sandwich and the Bridgewater Chicken Sandwich. The chicken and the chips were exceptional. We didn't care for the taste of the crab cake sandwich. We felt the taste of the crab was masked by too many seasonings. The wines were w exceptional, and we left with wine we purchased. We also joined the Explorers Wine Club. We are enjoying our membership. On our second visit, we came in just to pick up our wines and do a tasting. We felt very rushed and did not have the same kind of experience as we did initially. It wasn't awful. It was just very impersonal. However, the wines were exceptional again, and we bought even more to take home. The restaurant area and bar areas are cozy. We had good service. My husband is a great cook and makes Prime Rib for Christmas so he was excited to try their Prime Rib special on Mondays. Unfortunately he was very disappointed in his meal, it was very bland including the aus jus was the worst he has ever had. The baked potato just had a little butter and was so basic it was also a disappointment. I had the short ribs which was ok, but the brussel sprouts while cooked correctly had no flavor. I have been going to the store to purchase wine and take home so I was really disappointed to find out that the wine I enjoy at home from their store would cost me $20 extra to enjoy at their restaurant for their corkage fee. Maybe I shouldn't have expected no or low corkage fee but I have to say I was not happy. My husband and I went for dinner here last night. We were seated immediately and given water but it took a while for someone to come over to help us. We were discussing whether or not to leave when a bubbly young woman came over and introduced herself as Susie. She apologized for the wait. We ordered cocktails and the ahi tuna tower. Both were yummy. However, we both felt the pieces of tuna should be cut a little bit smaller. We ordered entrees and a bottle of Malbec. I had the tenderloin and my husband had the short ribs. Everything was delicious. Susie was an outstanding server. She was attentive, enjoyable to chat with, and very responsive of our needs. We will continue to dine here on special occasions, although it is pricey. read more

We had dinner here Saturday the weekend after Christmas! The restaurant is warm and inviting and the hostess who greeted us was wonderful. We ordered cocktails and wine which was all fine and had the fig prosciutto flatbread to start which was fantastic. I had the grouper as my meal, with mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels, and I wanted to love it, but the grouper had a stronger fish taste to it. The sides were delicious. Grouper is a mild fish so it almost seemed like maybe the fish wasn't very fresh... we also had crème brûlée for dessert. Crème brûlée is one of our favorite desserts and we wanted to love this one, but as we broke into it, we realized it wasn't fully cooked. It was soupy and undercooked. Our server was friendly and nice, took the crème brûlée off our bill, but she could have been slightly more attentive especially being that it wasn't very busy. I came in the other night and ordered Tuscan Pasta and was shocked at the portion size. The dish was $25.00 and the portion size was small enough for a child. Literally took me less than five minutes to eat. Meanwhile, everyone else in my party was eating with full meals on their plate. My meal was one of the most expensive yet pasta is one of the least expensive meals to make. Please tell me why you serve a children's portion to an adult. How many times do you get it served dry and like shoe leather. This grilled pork chop was the best ever. It was thick, tender and delicious. The mustard sauce gave it extra flavor. We wanted to keep things low key and local tonight, so we went to bridgewater with friends for some light fare and wine. We got MUCH more than we bargained for, with a lovely wine tasting to start things off, followed by some amazing food. Hubby and I shared three small plates...the pork belly, crab cake and meatball. They were all noteworthy but the meatballs were by far my favorite. Meatballs can be difficult to make if you don't know what you're doing. Kudos to the chef for knowing EXACTLY what she's doing. Light and well seasoned, they were accompanied by a scrumptious sauce and some ricotta, along with delicious bread to soak up the sauce. Perfection on a plate! Our friends had the flatbreads and were very pleased. The only critique here would be the portions are quite large and it would have been nice if they were told they were each getting two flatbreads rather than the typical one so they could have just ordered one and shared. There's a great new wine shop in Leland. After reading about the November grand opening in the Food & Dining section of the Star News, my husband and I decided to make a stop on our way to visit my parents in Magnolia Greens. On the chilly, rainy December night we stopped in, there was a free 90+ point wine tasting in progress, so of course, we took the extra time to fully participate. We also enjoyed meeting owner Doug Zucker, who assisted us in selecting a variety of wines to enjoy during the holidays. There are fantastic wines available at all price levels, and so far, as we work through the bottles we purchased, not a bad grape in the bunch. We will be back. Often. This place recently held a soft opening on Friday evening and I decided to check it out with my family today. As I walked in I was immediately greeted and saw all the amazing wines stocked on shelves and at the wine bar. They had shelves of wine, gift bags, shelves of beer, and a fridge with some drinks in them. I sat down for the wine tasting which is free(which is amazing) I was able to try 5 different wines from white to red. Susan was super friendly and very inviting and is lovely to talk to and just hangout with. The wine prices are very good not too high and crazy. Once they are officially open they will have 20 wines available to drink by the glass, beers on tap, and wine tasting available. They will also have food choices which are meat and cheese platters and Bavarian pretzel as well as other choices. I cannot wait to go back and try more and try there food. Everyone in Leland and the surrounding areas should check out this wine bar it is a cute place to relax drink wine and enjoy one another's company. read more

Thrilled that the "other side of the river" has a wine shop. I was excited since, being from the NE, the owner is also from the NE and from Stew Leonards . You would have to be from the NE to understand that. The shop is great , nicely planned and great prices. They have seating for enjoying wine and food. The menu looked great, lots of different possibilities. They offer free wines tasting weekly . They even offer a wine club, at a reasonable price. We stopped to try the California Wines they had one day, the vendor was knowledgeable and great. Sadly no where does the shop post what wines they are tasting , maybe they do know, it might be vendor choice. End result, it's ok. read more

I believe our mistake might have been coming on a Sunday. We were immediately steered toward two items: the meatballs, and pork belly. We were also told to get the meatballs on flatbread. We were the first customers. We noticed that as very few other customers filtered in, each was steered to the same two items. There was very little staff and the food was not cooked by the chef. And, that's the point. None of the suggested items would take much effort. Sunday is extremely slow and we concluded that we were purposely led to the items to minimize cooking. Fry the pork belly, and put the sliced meatballs (about two) on the flatbread. A lot more effort seemed to be focused on the prepared food and wine pickups. But the chef did help with our wine selections. None of the food was outstanding. And, you could only taste wines that had already been opened. read more

I was pretty excited that a wine store had opened up on this side of the bridge. That excitement dissipated quickly once I saw the selection of wines. There was a tasting the day I stopped in, so being able to chat with the staff and try some of what was offered there was nice. The layout is logical and they do have a little bar area inside as well. If you're into the more dry whites and reds - this place is for you. They have so many to choose from but are very lacking in anything on the sweeter side with a small section of few offerings in this category. So it really just depends on what you're into. read more
