The food order was straightforward Sunday Roast, and the appetizer arrived in 10 minutes. An hour and 10 minutes later, the Roast Port with Cracking arrived, but no crackling, and the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding arrived, without the Yorkshire pudding. The beef was pretty bad (after trimming the fat and sinew from the 2 thin slices, there wasn't much beef left to eat). After 2 hours, it was tough to get the bill to leave. it was so good the first time, I will try again.

I started with a half pint of Folly Road lager (recommended by the server), which was refreshing, light, and super easy to sip. Then came the fish & chips, and honestly it was one of the best I've had anywhere. The portions were wildly generous, and the fish was perfectly golden-fried with crispness that creates a loud crunch as you bite into it. The plump fish was tender, flaky and moist. The dish comes with mushy peas too. I appreciated that they set you up with salt, pepper, and malt vinegar so you can season everything to your taste, and you can request tartar sauce that's light, creamy, and great for dipping. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole visit feel warm and effortless.

My favorite part was the bar and the employees. I felt very comfortable and at ease casually enjoying our food and drinks. I'm not sure if they still have it, but there was a pear cider, and a tequila beer called desperado. I really enjoyed those. Might I add the bar scene is quite lively after dark, and I recommend this place for all times of the day!

While planning our vacation, I added this spot as a must-see location and I'm glad I did. There's very little seating in this place, so if you get there while it's busy, you might not find a place to sit. We were early (4:30P) and had no issues. Kitchen doesn't open until 5:30P, so we just enjoyed beer until then. When we were able to order we split the steak & ale pie. Really, really good and huge portion. Thanks to reviews we knew that the portion sizes were huge - so splitting was already something we wanted to do. Service was really good / quick. The ladies that work there are amazing. Seems to be a good mix of locals and tourists. Highly recommend.

The pub sells Aspalls cider which is always a big plus for me. The chips have a lot of room for improvement - a more home made style would really improve the quality quickly and easily; I'm never a fan of oven style chips which never taste or look that great and unfortunately this is what the fox and hounds sells. If you're after an upmarket place to eat then this is probably not it but it serves good quality food at a reasonable price and the bar staff are helpful and friendly.

Portion sizes were large and you won't be walking away with an empty belly. The choice is plentiful and the beef (even though a topside cut) was mouthwateringly tender. I had the lamb, well just come try for yourself, I left smiling :) One thing that needs a special mention; We have been to many pubs in and around London (where we live) every Sunday trying a new place for the books and I have to say (including my mother who is from Yorkshire) that the chef makes the best Yorkshire puddings we have EVER come across. They are just the right consistency, not too heavy or dough like, not too dry and crispy but just right...light and fluffy with enough spongy volume to almost classify and the perfect Yorkshire pudding. Lady's and Gentlemen, if Yorkie's are your thing - this is the place! The sweet potato fries are a great side, the cauliflower cheese was also very very good; almost crispy on top but with a cheesy creamy sauce underneath. The scotch egg is also worth a mention as this is a British classic and it is cooked to well here, highly recommended. Other things to note; bread and butter pudding was a big hit, so was the crumble. I had the millionaires cheese cake and although the most popular desert I found it to be a little rich and well, more chocolate than cheesecake. Not really a cheesecake texture but more a hardened chocolate based moose. One last thing, although there were a number of staff members we found the table service to be a little slow and needed improving... but surely this place, with these portions and those prices will be a hit everytime! Highly recommended
