We wanted to have a nice quiet drink and why not in such an old, historic building? You could easily feel the vibe of centuries gone past and their fire place is something else. It is massive and has huge highland coo horns adorning it. We sat in their backyard and it is quite the sun trap. I read up on their history and was actually very pleased to have visited this place. Enjoying a pint of Applewood Cider on the same spot were pirates and kings had their belly filled and their whistles wetted, makes one feel special. Recommended to all! The pub is the only pub in the harbour and has a large carpark so access is very easy. Using a wheelchair is not a problem as the doors are large and the interior is spacious, however upon my last visit there were no disabled toilets but the normal toilets were adequate and they allow a carer to go in with you. The pub itself is decorated inside with a wonderful warm almost mexciana feel, there are warm burnt oranges next to cool blues and the welcome you receive is very warm and friendly even from the locals and other drinkers visiting. It is a family friendly pub with children allowed in right up until closing time, however don't let this put you off it's not a rowdy noisy place with kids running about it's just a good old family atmosphere. There is a small outdoor area with a few tables which has some old ships memorablilia and is wonderful on a summers evening. There is a darts board and the whole pub is full of wonderful old heavy wood tables like you'd of found in a good old English pub of the last centuries. The bar is extensive with something to make every drinker happy and there is a good food menu which will surely fill you up and all reasonably priced. Go there you won't regret it.

This is such a wonderful place where the proprietor was so warm and friendly and welcoming! We were seated next to the fireplace and had a nice fire during the entire meal - how cool was that? The service from the staff was second to none - always attentive and did not miss a beat. So about the food - it was amazingly delicious - we had: - Camembert salad - 8.5 UKL - beautifully presented - Pigeon breast with goat cheese - totally rich and salad was so fresh 7.5 UKL - Devon Crab Thermidore - again, totally delicious and well presented 18.95 UKL - Blackboard special chicken pie - done to perfection - AWESOME - (dont remember the price as it was a blackboard special) This place is way out in the country and has such beautiful scenery and friendly people. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful pub!

I took the vicar to lunch there on a wet Palm Sunday and found it a charming place, simply furnished and with a welcoming open fire. The original small public and saloon bars have been opened up so that the pub now consists of one large L-shaped room, one wing of which is at a lower level. Being a Sunday, the menu was short - basically roast beef, pork or chicken with all the trimmings. Our Gloucester Old Spot pork with cream mustard sauce came commendably quickly and was delicious, with ample crackling, a tasty Yorkshire pudding and superb roast potatoes. There were no less than five additional vegetables, including red cabbage and parsnips, all fitted comfortably on a large square plate. Slices of crusty brown bread were served automatically, all for £16.95 each. Puddings were apple crumble, bread and butter and brownies, all with cream. We failed to tackle any of them. The wine list is short and we allowed Anna, (who with the chef, Adam Cordery are the proprieters) to recommend an excellent Rioja at £17. No service charge was added to the bill, which I find a little tiresome as you the have to calculate it, but the service itself from Anna and her team of two young girls was exemplary, and the pub was full.

My husband had the steak and ale pie, and I had the summer salad which included chicken and scampi in sweet chili sauce. Both dishes were absolutely outstanding, and we've been traveling for more than a week in England and have been to England before. Had to be right up at the top if not the top meal we've had in England! On top of that, we were late to an attraction, and as we walked down the street after leaving the pub, the owner Mark pulled up alongside of us and insisted on giving us a ride to the ferry so we'd have plenty of time to see Osborne House! Of course we came back and visited a couple of additional times, and were never disappointed by the coffee, the Ale, the food, or the company. We would highly recommend this pub to all comers!
