While the initial purchase went smoothly, the alteration process was handled poorly, which ultimately left me disappointed in my experience at Brides of Solihull. I purchased my gown in August 2024, and the alterations--specifically around the bust--were carried out between July and September 2025 by Barbara Aranguiz of Aranguiz London, as recommended by the shop. I picked up the dress on September 10 with the understanding that all alterations had been completed to the specifications agreed with Barbara, which included securely sewing in bra cups. However, I only discovered on the morning of my wedding that the cups had been merely tacked in rather than properly sewn, resulting in a noticeably gaping fit in person and in my photos. I returned to the shop on September 15, the first business day after my wedding, to address the issue. The process was frustrating--I felt brushed off by staff, particularly the manager and owner, who did not seem to take my concerns seriously or work to resolve the matter promptly. It took multiple calls and several visits before I finally received a refund for the alteration work. During this process, I spoke directly with Barbara, who acknowledged to me that the cups had not been sewn in properly. This situation caused a great deal of unnecessary stress and disappointment during what should have been a joyful and memorable time. Given the cost and significance of a wedding gown, I expected much better quality, professionalism, and care. I would strongly caution other brides to look elsewhere for alterations. read more

AVOID this shop at all cost. Their business is extremely dodgy... they still keep records in notebooks not anything legal. Not surprised since they're a bunch of pensioners doing this as a side gig and are being paid cash in hand. ALTERATIONS = DAMAGING of gorgeous dresses. The seamstress they are working with, Barbara, hasn't got a clue about anything. She is not even using a measuring tape... if you want to avoid VERY UNPLEASANT surprises with the most important item of your day don't go there. Every time I flagged a fault the reply was :"don't worry, babe, it gets sorted once pressed" there was simply no talking to her. Feel so gutted with the whole thing... my wedding is next week and I need to find a way to sort things out. I went to this shop once and all i can say is never again, the staff were rude unhelpfull and thought they were the bees knees!! my wedding isnt until next year and i have started looking now and i was told by a lady here that my wedding MUST be booked to look at any wedding gowns!! (which my wedding is booked!) then as i was looking thru the dresses i was being watched constantly - dont know if they thought i was going to sneak one in my bag or what but i felt like i had eyes on me at all times! I did try a dress on and the dress was £1200 their price and a lovely dress to - but even if i wanted that dress i wouldnt order from here and would look else where for it so they lost custom there good and proper!!! buying your wedding dress is supposed to be an enjoyable experience and your supposed to feel at ease which at this shop i certainly wasnt! i felt un easy and aggitated the whole time i was in the shop! as i was leaving the shop i picked up a leaflet off their counter to be shouted at by the sales lady i couldnt have a leaflet if i hadnt placed an order - great advertising that one!! overall i wouldnt give this place 1 star if i didnt have to!! read more

When I arrived the staff looked at me like 'what are you doing in here?' It took me 5 minutes to convince her I was serious about buying a dress (I'd been trawling the Internet, and knew exactly the styles and their names), and that I probably knew more than her. Then she was helpful and I tried on 3 dresses. The changing room is odd but OK. No champagne or special treatment like elsewhere. Dresses are amazing though but expensive. If you get the right member off staff you'll probably have a good experience. A friend of mine was turned away for not having confirmed her wedding date, so might be an idea to lie. read more

Being the fuller figured lady that I am can always seem daunting when stripping off your clothes in front of a stranger, but DIANE made me feel completely at ease with myself. The patience and time she put in with me today was second to none. I really enjoyed myself trying on all of the gowns. This is quite literally the worst shop in the world - not just the worst bridal shop! I arrived to ask about a particular style to be told they don't stock it. I was then offered to look through some tatty books - why can't I just look at the dresses? I can look at magazines at home! I tried on one dress in the worst dressing room ever. The staff use it to get through to the store room at the back and three staff came through while I was stood there in my underwear - not one apology. just a comment to the lady helping me "you'll never get that one done up"!!!!! Couldn't get out of there quick enough, but upon telling them I run a local restaurant I was then subjected to a 5min tirade from the manager about the "awful" meal she'd had there. Have you ever heard the comment "a time and a place"? I've got a £2000 budget for my dress - but I'll be spending it elsewhere - as Julia Roberts said "big mistake - HUGE" Avoid this place at all costs! read more

I purchased my wedding dress from Brides of Solihull yesterday & was astounded by the quality of customer service I received - they were FANTASTIC! Mandy personally helped me through the process, she listened to what I wanted & advised me accordingly. I was given a range of dresses to try on all of which I had picked beforehand along with help from my Mum & Mandy & the use of the picture on the front of each dress helped me alot - its a good idea. Having been to 2 bridal shops (one gave apalling service & even rushed us out of the door after our "hour was up" and the other one was closed down) that day & one previously beforehand (plus working for a bridal magazine & running an annual excellent customer service Wedding Awards every year) I have gained an insight on what you should look out for. The very fact that you didn't need an apoointment was welcoming enough & you were allowed to browse & spend as long as you liked there overall made the experience relaxed & enjoyable. I would suggest a cup of tea for my Mum would be a nice touch even though this was never offered. They have a good range of designers plus a decent range of shoes, headwear & accessories as well as some bridesmaids dresses. I'D DEFINITELY RECOMMEND A VISIT! read more

Having visited several other bridal shops and not having found my dream dress, as soon as I stepped into Brides of Solihull, I felt excited. The dresses they have are beautiful. With the help of Denise, Susan and Val, I found my dream dress Justin Alexander 8615 which made made me feel like a princess :-) I found the service at the shop to be excellent and am shocked at the negative reviews. Having lost alot of weight before the wedding, when the dress arrived it was too big. Being the worrier that I am, I was concerned how it would look when it was taken in. Mandy was amazing and put my mind at rest, assuring me and promising that she would make sure that I was 100% happy with it. You pay a one off fee for the alterations and I definately got my money's worth!! The shop fit me in every week for about 6 weeks to check alterations and to try my dress on. Every Thursday evening was spent at the shop!! The staff were very patient with me and Sarah took the dress in perfectly. I also purchased a lovely tiara and shrug from the shop. I found the aftercare service at the shop to be excellent which is so important in the run up to the wedding with fittings etc. The staff were so helpful. Where do I start , well i firstly would like to say I didn't even want to put a star rate, but it wouldn't post without one ! Went in this shop today with my daughter for a dress for her wedding . With me and my daughter was my 80 year old mother my son, my sister and my daughter in law and her mother . We was ignored for the first ten minutes, by the rude staff. My daughter eventually picked a dress to try on although the dresses wasn't all that anyhow, with the dress in her hand she got a response. But was told by the staff member basically they only have small sizes in the shop . My daughter tries on the dress but didn't like it , even thou we told her we wanted an A line dress she then went and got my daughter a tight fitted dress . The staff member didn't like it when no one liked it either , her attitude stank . Whilst in the changing room with my daughter she made some rude remarks when my daughter said she was wearing converse. And my daughter also told her she had tried a lovely dress ( Manor brides castle Bromwich go there ladies ) the staff member told her well go back and get it what a disgusting reply. Well you silly cow you lost a good customer because there was no limit I was going to pay for my daughters dress so your loss. Your all rude and too old to be working in that type of retail, you horrible people! I really would say to anyone that is thinking of going into this shop DON'T bother there horrible miserable people that work here. Visited this shop in the hope of finding a hat to match an outfit. An assistant was arranging the hats in the colour I required on a display shelf. When I informed another assistant what I required instead of asking if I would like to try any on I was told "I hope you're not going to spoil our display! and given a stern look from her colleague. I did try a couple of hats, while the unhelpful sour faced assistant stood in silence but I felt extremely uncomfortable and more of an inconvenience than a customer. I had travelled from Halesowen to visit this unwelcoming unprofessional store and although I liked one of the hats, there is no way I would give my custom to this store due to the bad service I received. read more

I ordered my wedding dress way back in June 2015. Pretty much as soon as you walk through the door they ask when your wedding is which is fair enough. The ladies were very helpful in helping me find a dress and was patient with me while I tried on lots of different styles. Once I had chosen my dress I had to pay the whole amount as I had left it a little late (I got married 26.03.16) it takes 6 months for the dress to come in and then you need time for alterations. They took measurements and ordered my dress, they called me when it arrived and booked me in for a fitting. I paid a one off alteration fee and had 3 different appointments for fittings. My dress was the Moro Lee 1901 which comes with a belt with a bow at the back and on both of my last fittings I said I didn't want the bow and asked them to sew the belt into the dress. On collection I Took my dress around to my partners parents house, 10 minutes later they called to say the shop had given me the wrong dress. Someone of the same first name and marrying the same month but different surname and date was on the front, I probably should have checked it myself but I didn't think I needed to. I called the shop and they apologised and sent someone out with my dress so at least I didn't have to go back out to change it. I checked the dress in the bag just in case. The day before my wedding I checked the dress over properly and saw the back of the dress, they had sewn the belt into the dress but left the bow on. I specifically said on my last 2 fittings that I didn't want the bow just I case they had forgotten and still they forgot to do it. Luckily it wasn't a major deal for me but it was still disappointing as it wasn't perfect and what I asked for. So if you do order from this shop just make sure you check the dress on collection and make sure you get the alterations done that you ask for. Other than those 2 faults the shops and staff were lovely and friendly. read more

I have given Brides Of Solihull ONE star because I have to. I went there a month ago and as soon as my friends and I stepped through the door we walked over to a line of dresses which were all gorgeous but then 2 ladies appeared from out the back and hovered around us asking what we was doing in the store, my friend stepped forward and said we are looking for a wedding dress and the lady looked me up and down and pulled a face as if to say "how can she afford to get married" which i ignored, she gave us a book and said look through this and see what u like the look of and we will arrange a day for u to try some dresses on, i said i will be trying some dresses on today. so i looked through the book and picked out 3 dresses, then i spotted the most gorgeous dress on a display, she said "oh no u cant try that on it will look silly because ur short and it has so much detail on it" i was gutted, i went into the changing room stripped off and stood there in my underwear for what felt like ages, I have very sensitive skin and my bra was a bit tight that day so i had a tiny red mark on my back and she went "oh u have a rash what is it" i said its just where my bra was too tight (u could see the strap line) but she thought i had some lergy. anyway i tried on the dress and fell in love with the first dress, and the second dress was not so nice, the third was lovely but my friends thought the first was better the lady in the store said "this dress (meaning the 3rd) was better suited to me as it was 800 and cheaper than the first dress" WHAT the HELL!! i tried the first dress back on and she hardly even did the back up she pretty much held it together whilst on me. i decided to pick this dress, and the lady snapped "this dress is 1050 and 200 free accesories what kind of deposit can you pay" i said i can pay 100 today she said "yea ok then but remember we cannot order your dress until it is paid off and it will take 6 months to arrive and then u have to fit in alteration costs which is another 2 months waiting" i said well i will come in every month or week if needed and pay money off my dress. and they went into the back and started chatting. came out and asked for my card to take 100 deposit out, the customer service at this store is horrid. i would not reccomend buying ur dress from here. the dresses are overpriced and the service is dire. if u want to feel how the character in Pretty woman felt when she went into the posh shop to buy clothes and come out leaving empty handed and cheap then feel free to shop here. but u are worth so much more!! i visited brides of solihull with less than two months before my wedding in october 2010. i am so glad i paid no attention to all the negative reviews, because i could not have wished for a better team...mandy and the girls saw my sister and myself there and then. we were supported throughout our visits, reassured if need be if we had concerns by visits or via phone and above all made to feel special.....at no time on my visits did i feel, or see any other brides being treated any thing less than politely and helpfully, despite endless dress 'try ons' and awkwards brides the staff went out of their way to be helpful and kind. i will always remember the superb treatment from everyone there.....do not let some reviews put you off going there!!!! maybe some customers have the wrong attitude and can never be grateful, thankful or generous to others, never mind 'mere shop assistants'....or maybe there are too many spoilt princesses and queens out there!!!!!!! keep up the fantastic work ladies...highly recommended, and thanks again read more

Visited this shop on Saturday on what was meant to be an exciting day of wedding dress shopping for my sister. What a disappointment. We walked into the shop to be faced with four unsmiling assistants who made no effort to give us a warm welcome. We were presented with four black folders and told to look through them. Turns out these folders show the dresses in the shop, but no one bothered to explain the process for us. Once my sister had selected a few dresses an assistant begrudgingly got them for her and helped her dress but that was where the service ended. The assistant didn't smile, say anything about the form or fit of any of the dresses let alone compliment how my sister looked in them. Frankly, she could not have been more miserable. It was such an awful experience and my sister came away feeling completely let down and vowing never to step inside that shop again. I've never seen such awful service in a high street store let alone one where the average dress purchase is over £1,000. Never again. read more
