After going to really snobby, stuffy and high pressured shops that did not care about my budget or what I really wanted, I cannot say enough good things about this shop. My whole experience was delightful and memorable from start to finish. When I came for my first visit, the girls were really attentive and took time to get to know me. They really took the time to hear my wedding vision. They didn't make me feel pressured to pick and buy a dress, in fact they helped me find that perfect wedding dress. It was in the upcoming season and had to return 6 a few months later. They were very good with staying in touch and letting me know when the new line arrived. When I finally returned to try the new season, the girls were again, amazing in their service. They helped me realise my vision by customising part of my dress that made it perfectly my own. They always made me feel like I was the most important customer and even with my bridesmaids, the staff shared in our wedding fun. Despite all the tweaks and customising, my dress remained within budget. The shop was really good and helped me meet my budget and creating my perfect dress. They were also very good at fitting my appointments around my hectic schedule. They paid attention to every detail and it showed it the quality of my custom pieces and alterations. I highly recommend this shop for the best wedding dress shopping experience. I have left not just as a thoroughly satisfied customer, but I have left feeling like I've made some new friends in these lovely ladies.

But, as they are made to measure, you can be assured that you'll look absolutely amazing in any dress you choose. The thing that matters most in a dress isn't its length or material, it's how it fits on you, and, with the amount of experience the staff at Phillipa Lepley have, they're bound to get it right. This is pretty much the place to come to if you're looking for a high-quality, classic, timeless, elegant traditional wedding dress. During my first visit, I was attended to by the store manager who is herself a trained dressmaker. She offered me loads of advice as to the shade that suited me the most, as well as the kinds of dress styles I should be looking at in order to show off my attributes. She also offered advice on what else I could do to a dress - add lace, add a dash of colour - in order to add more oomph to the dress. All in all, I really appreciated that visit as it helped guide me in terms of what I was looking for in wedding dresses. If you're not interested in a made to measure gown adapted from their collection, you can also choose to sit down and work with them to design your ideal gown. Of course, this will be more expensive, but, if you can afford it, I imagine it will be an amazing experience. Let me preface that with the fact that I was never one of those little girls who dreamed about her wedding, so those dreams were more recent and therefore more logical... and financially feasible. Not that Sassi Holford's gowns aren't financially feasible, per se. At least for wedding gowns. All of the hand-made gowns start at the £2,500+ mark. If I'd lived in London, I wouldn't have had such an issue in my decision. But because I'd have to fly back for another 1-2 fittings, as well as schlep the gown to California, I decided to skip out on "saying yes" here. Regardless of all of this, Grace was completely helpful and charming in helping me decide. She was utterly patient and upbeat throughout the process, despite the dreary weather and my nagging requests ("can I get this in a whiter shade?" or "can we make this with sleeves?"). Also, the music was seriously my playlist; like, they hijacked my Pandora station and played all of the "thumbs-up" tracks. Super awesome! Definitely give the store a visit (but not without an appointment) and ask for Grace!

I had a previous professor that was one of the foremost biographers on her and her husband that managed the Sex Pistols and we studied, in-depth, the subculture in which this store thrived from. I'm imagining Malcolm Mclaren sitting around with hipsters while Viv is making ad-hoc clothing alterations to create, in a store, the looks that the youth were creating on their own as a reaction to the punk movement. This store, with the infamous clock twirling backwards out front, should have sent a fashion/media/sociological chill down my spine. Instead, the clothing was...well... hit and miss... and quite pricey, the worker looked depressed, I'm assuming because she can't afford to wear anything in the store she works in, and I was hoping for some more design quirks that would throw you back to that electric and exciting time when she first came to be a "name" among the subversive youth culture. The highlight of my trip here was taking a photo of the clock that moves backwards. Le sigh! Her corner in Selfridges was more exciting, which is appalling considering this is the shop where it all began. I want to love this shop more as I love the Vivienne Westwood brand, but there's something here they're not doing.

The second I bought my dress, they became regularly condescending and rude, for no evident reason. While the owner sold me on the promise that the dress would be fitted to flatter my body shape, as soon as she'd ordered the dress (a size too big), she and her seamstress stubbornly refused to take the in dress as I asked, even though there was obviously extra material around my stomach and hips. I almost got the feeling that they enjoy being rude, as they are just naturally conceited people? Otherwise, I can't imagine how it benefits them to be so exceptionally unpleasant. Finally, I took the dress away from the shop to a proper alterations boutique. In FIVE MINUTES, the new seamstress was able to make the dress look as it should--flattering, hourglass, exactly as I wanted and knew was easily possible given that the dress was too big! Other examples of rudeness: they don't respond to emails for over two weeks, if ever. They charge you extra for every little service they could possibly provide. They insulted my shapewear and bra (they asked me if my bra was made of plastic?! I'm sorry, what is a plastic bra?). We even overheard them gloating about how many pounds they'd made in sales that morning (really classy). It's obvious that the second they've sold the dress they couldn't care less about anything besides selling more dresses to other brides to mistreat. I really hope for your own sanity you steer clear of these snobs. Dress fittings should be fun! That's what I've heard anyway.
