I was doing my due diligence on trying to find a wedding dress seamstress for a dress I had my eyes on and found Judith via yelp. I decided to give her a call to get an estimate on what it would possibly cost to have the dress I wanted altered after trying it on at a boutique in Annapolis and she gave me a quick but very educational explanation on making sure the dress was measured correctly and to have things documented in the order sheet so what i pay for is what I receive. She then asked me who the designed of my dress was to see if I was getting a proper quote and told me that it was a bit higher than what it should be and advised me to call around other boutiques who might carry that designer to compare costs. I took her suggestion to heart and found the dress I loved at $200 less than what I was quoted for at the Annapolis shop! So thank you Judith for bringing that attention to me and taking the time to explain the run down on how to cost effectively and smartly purchase a wedding dress. The boutique I ended up buying my dress from has an in house seamstress so I won't be needing to take it to Judith but she helped me, in her own way, to buy the dress I wanted at a comfortable price and I am so grateful for that.

One was too long (but it was the length I ordered it at, I just needed it to be shortened after I tried it on with my dress) and the blusher I had ordered to be more poofy, came in way too poofy from Ansonia. Unfortunately, Ansonia's customer service was absolutely terrible and they made NO effort at all to help me. My friend purchased a dress she felt was "a steal" because she was told it was designer and loved it. Afterwards they added so many charges for every little item that she left with her dress trying to think of solutions. We found ZAKAA and found their atelier was on site - the designer helped my friend to rework her dress into what she wanted and when we got there we realized just how much she got ripped off when we compared her "designer" dress to ZAKAA's beautiful gowns. My friend could have purchased 2 customized dresses by a real designer than what she left with from this other store. ZAKAA even worked in an alteration package for my friend which let me tell you NO ONE would ever do especially for a dress that isn't theirs! She came up with money saving plans and work to make this dress my friend's dream dress. She literally took a piece of fabric dress that didn't even have boning into a masterpiece! Another upside to this experience was when it was my turn to purchase a dress I knew exactly where to go. I was able to put together a customized dress with the designer and have a packaged alternation deal, flat price for everything, that was VERY fair based on the insane amounts others quoted us. When I arrived, I was the second customer in the store, yet there was only one robe, which already made the experience uncomfortable and exposed. Muna, my consultant, was amazing -- kind, patient, and truly the only reason I considered purchasing a gown. I'm 5'2" and a size 16-18, and only two dresses fit me. She handled me with grace and made me feel comfortable. While I was deciding on a $1,550 dress and $450 veil, the owner made 2 comments that didn't sit with me well regarding the dress "It's your size and there aren't many options in your size," and then, as I stepped aside to make a phone call, added, "I need to know what you're going to do because I have to write this up." The pressure and tone were unnecessary and disappointing. There were also no price tags, and asking for prices resulted in vague responses. "It's Couture and expensive" In the end, I paid $50 to try on only a couple of dresses and left feeling rushed, limited, and discouraged. Curvier brides should be aware that the inclusivity and sensitivity you expect may not be what you experience here.

After having fair to midland tailoring from suit shops, I decided to purchase a couple of suits that would need tailoring but did not get the suit shop's tailor. Instead this time I decided I would spend the extra money to have the suits tailored by a specialist. It turned out to be a great decision. Best fit I have ever had since I bought a custom suit when I was in my 20s. My fitting was not only accurate, but educational. Ms. Byrom's expert eye applied, offered that the suit jacket would be best fitted by rotating the arms, adjusting the sides, the back, the length. It was what I considered a renovation... it just happened to use the same material. When I noted this, Ms. Byrom said, "well, that's exactly how you should buy your suits... by the material" and she proceed to educate me on the art of tailoring. It was fascinating, even with tips on where and most importantly *when* to by suits and what labels to watch which use the best materials. The fitting seemed to be over before I noticed. When a suit fits well, you can "feel" it. I really didn't want to wear my other suits afterwords. (I have a couple of jackets that need Ms. Byrom's attention now...) In wearing the rebuilt suites, I have received a number of complements from both men and women. There are times when looking your best really counts. A great haircut, some svelte shoes polished to perfection, a well-cut suit tailored by Tang's and you can't go wrong.

She also suggested that I get the waist of my dress tighter, which was a great suggestion and made my dress look much better on me. I took an evening dress bought from Macy's for $140 for a basic hemming. It's a floor length and just needed it to be shortened by about an inch. They did not quote a price and I did not ask (a big mistake) - I have taken multiple evening and performance dresses for the exact same service at another dry clean and it's usually about $50. This place? $215. The husband wrote down the price. He then gave me a "discount" of $15 and charged $200. It seems as though they basically made up a price and see if you're willing to pay. I had out of town family waiting so did not want to make a scene to further negotiate. Lesson's learn to not just focus on how many stars. The initial view of an overall 4 stars had me relaxed a bit to choosing this place and I genuinely don't know how this merchant would have managed to get these 4 or 5 stars reviews, although most 5 stars were years ago. Lessons learned.
