Brick City Catering
We hired Brick City Catering for our daughter's Sunday Brunch Wedding on November 6, 2016. We hired them based on a taste test of their quiche - it was delicious! We negotiated the contract with Chef Al - which included appetizers of cheese/ cracker trays and fruit kabobs. The brunch was quiche, roasted potatoes, salad, yogurt parfait and a turkey and ham carving station and fresh pastries. Cake serving would be provided. A bartender and a half moon bar and ice would also be provided. Although we found a caterer who could provide the same menu for less, Chef Al said you get what you pay for and he assured us we would get the best from him and his staff.
I called Chef Al a week before the wedding to establish the time for serving food, the appetizers were to be served from 12 - 1. Brunch would begin after the wedding party is announced around 1:30. However, the salad was served at 12:30 long before the wedding party was announced. I asked why it was being served so early, Chef Al explained he didn't want everyone to fill up on appetizers - this is not his call. When it was time for the brunch, which was a buffet, I was shocked... There were no carving stations, the quiche was cold and did not compare to the quiche we had tried, and the "fresh" pastries were bought at Sam's Club. Those who went for seconds, returned to their table to find their utensils had been removed from the table. A bartender was provided and ice, but the "half moon bar" was a folding table - no tablecloth. Al's wife asked if they could leave after the brunch was served, I said no - the cake had not been served.
Weddings are one of the most memorable days of your life. The focal point is the food and service that is provided. If this important to you, do not hire Brick City Catering. They disregard your requests, do not provide the quality food they promise and do not meet the terms of their contract.
I called Chef Al two weeks after the wedding to complain about quality of food and not meeting the terms of the contract, he offered to make amends by catering our next party for free. My husband met with him to discuss the menu for a New Year's Eve party we were hosting for 35 people. Al explained he would not be able to provide the personnel to work the party but would deliver the food. During this discussion Chef Al admitted he made mistakes at the wedding, but he is human and mistakes happen..
Our menu was bacon wrapped scallops, tortellini bar, coconut shrimp balls, stuffed mushrooms, bourbon chicken tenders, prime rib and eggplant rollatini. Chef Al agreed to this menu for 35 people. We called Al Tuesday before New Year's Eve and were told they were too busy to deliver and we would have to pick up - another commitment not met. We checked the food when we got home - that was our mistake. We had bacon wrapped scallops, tortellini, potato skins, bourbon chicken, eggplant rollatini, fettuccine - lots of fettuccine - and 12 slices of prime rib. How does 12 slices of prime rib serve 35 people? What happened to the coconut shrimp balls, the stuffed mushrooms? We didn't order potato skins and fettuccine - but that's what we received - costing much less than the what we ordered. This was Brick City's shot at redemption and it was a massive fail. We did not get what we ordered - we got what they wanted to give us. Again, a disappointment to us and our guests.
When we met with Chef Al at the beginning we had concerns about a few negative reviews about Brick City Catering and asked about them - he explained them away convincing us that he was the best and our daughter's wedding would perfect. If you address this review with Chef Al, I'm sure he will do the same... DO NOT BELIEVE HIM!!!! If you value your wedding as one of the most important and memorable days of your life, do NOT hire Brick City Catering. I guarantee you will be disappointed. read more
