Briar Rose Inn

Ted and Sallie are the best hosts of any B&B and even hotel I've ever been too. Breakfast each morning was out of this world. I'll probably get in trouble for admitting this but Briar Rose Inn is better than any Grandma's house I've been to. Ted and Sallie take phenomenal COVID-19 precautions and I never once felt at risk during my stay. Briar Rose is just a 5-minute, 3-block walk to Esther Shore Park - the heart of Vancouver, Washington. There are so many things to see and do locally with Portland just right down the road. Even though Briar Rose is over 100 years old, I was never disconnected once from the Inn's WiFi. Use the earplugs Ted and Sallie provide at night if you are a light sleeper as Vancouver is a big railroad hub and PDX Portland International Airport is right across the river. Even with the trains and planes, I didn't have any sleepless nights here, quite the opposite - best sleep I've gotten this year. Definitely cannot recommend the Briar Rose Inn enough. Thank you Ted and Sallie for your wonderful hospitality, amazing stories, and Ted for the incredible breakfasts!

When you go to Grandma's house, you expect certain things, and that's what you get at the Briar Rose Inn. Friendly, caring, clean accommodations. We, unlike Sara, were greeted by the husband, I'm thinking Tom, or Ted, but forgettable, sorry Tom/Ted, you made me carry my bag, almost all the way up the two sets of stairs, and that, was not really excellent service. And unlike Sara, we had Sally make us breakfast cause Tom/Ted went to play golf...but no worries, while cooking is not her 'forte" as put by Sally herself...the breakfast was good...not excellent...but Grandma good. The rooms are comfortable...although ours felt a bit "crowded" like we have this, so we should put it somewhere and so let's put it right here in front of the fireplace...good idea. And our request for ice came; a teacup with ice in it...OK...I only wanted to cool my drink... The trains start at 4:00 a.m. but to the credit of the Inn, this is NOT their fault and the other motels/hotels (2 I think, total) are closer to the tracks than are they , so...if you are in Vancouver...you will have a train, or 6, coming though between 4 and 6...7...8 in the morning. But if in Vancouver; I choose the Briar Rose Inn...it's just like staying with family. And to their absolute credit...my husband left a pair of shorts there, and they sent them to us...no bill...no "how are you going to pay"...sent them to us..just like family. LindySez: Sally gives you the ear plugs for a reason, use them.

Ted did the cooking while I stayed 5 days and it was fantastic every day: frittata, waffles, soufflé, etc.

If your flight gets hit with a ground stop, the hotel's position is essentially that you're already checked in -- even if you're several states away with no physical way to arrive. When I explained the situation, the conversation quickly turned into me asking to simply be checked out and accept a one-night penalty. I was more than willing to cover that, but I wasn't willing to pay for the entire stay when travel disruptions were completely out of my control. What was most disappointing was the lack of flexibility or guidance. No alternatives were offered, and there didn't seem to be much concern for the realities of air travel. For a property that presumably serves many business travelers, the response felt far from traveler-friendly. Based on this experience, I won't be booking this location again and would recommend choosing a property that better understands the unpredictability of airline travel.

This is one of the first Hilton locations I've visited that makes sure HH members are acknowledged in a memorable way, there was a spin the wheel for HH member's offering a chance to win additional points and/or free parking (I won free parking, very much appreciated!) The room was spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable, and modernized. The onsite parking was very well secured no matter how late your arrival could be the staff go over and beyond to ensure guests and staff enter the garage. The onsite restaurant Gray's offered a good mix of breakfast items for all dietary preferences. The conference rooms are spacious, and sound proof as there were meetings being held in the rooms next to ours and there were no disturbances. This Hilton location rates high for excellent customer service, cleanliness, and hospitality. I quickly suggested all of our team meetings be held here, and will add to my list if I ever need a place to stay with my family; I highly recommend!

This place has breathtaking views along the water and a deck from which to watch the sunrise and sunset while eating any of your meals. Our hosts went out of their way to cater to us and add those special touches throughout the room, in the main house, and when eating. For example, when we were trying to decide what to have for dinner, Lisa provided us with menus and helpful descriptions of local food offerings. We got pizza delivered and Lisa had chilled a bottle of wine for us to enjoy while we sat outside and took in the view. And breakfast was to die for with French toast with fresh berries and syrup, bacon, fresh melon, eggs, juices... this is a place I would love to visit again and look forward to seeing our wonderful hosts again

We could only stay one night and Kevin waived the 2 night requirement. This was so generous. Also, we had an early morning flight back to San Diego but Kevin graciously fixed us a large bowl of berries with yogurt that we could get ourselves at a very early hour. We stayed in the garden room with it's own private bathroom that was large and had every amenity needed. I even forgot my toothbrush but Kevin to the rescue was able to provide. We were the only ones there so we got to see the other rooms. The Blue Heron room is much larger with a desk and they are about to remodel so that the bathroom will be private to that room as well. My favorite room was the innkeeper's suite with it's own kitchen and beautiful views. If back in Portland that would be the room I would choose even though it's on the 3rd floor. The location of Fulton House is excellent. I was leary of staying downtown due to recent reviews of car thefts, etc. No need to worry about that in this neighborhood that is also walking distance to a fantastic grocery store and Rovente Pizza that is now in my all time top 3 pizzas in the US! We are seasoned travelers who frequently stay in 4 and 5 star hotels. I wouldn't hesitate to book the Fulton House again. Next time I hope to enjoy the lavish breakfasts people write about.

Lovely! Delightful!…read more Charming Rooms! Welcoming Hosts! Gorgeous Grounds! I could go on and on about this sweet B&B that is in Milwaukie (just Southeast of Portland). Totally has spoiled us for future B&Bs. Terry and Al are amazing! My mom and I were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves for 2 whole days! So, we had Terry and Al's undivided attention. We visited with them in the mornings which made the experience so much more personal and inviting. They have a sign on the door that says something like... Enter as Guest, Leave as Friends. So True! Now... this B&B isn't hard to find but you could easily drive right by it in the dark because the house itself sits up on a little hill with several acres of around it. It's nestled into what would seem its own little piece of heaven surrounded by big trees, lush lawns and beautiful landscape complete with a little bridge. (I think I have pictures... I'll dig them up and post them too.) The house has several entrances (exits), but go ahead and enter at any one of them. The main one is at the front of the house which you can drive to... just follow the little road to the right as you go up the hill. (We didn't.... I saw the parking lot up on the left and just parked.) But you can drive to the front, unload and then drive around to the parking area. Anyways... Terry greeted us and showed us around the house. The house is HUGE! So many rooms and they've done a great job decorating it! Antiques mixed in with comfy sofas and chairs. It's a 3 story house... the main floor has the kitchen, porch, parlor and dining room (as well as Terry and Al's living quarters).... the upper floor has the bedrooms... I think I counted 4.... the bottom floor has the Theater... Yes... a Theater with a gi-normous screen and lots of movies to pick from. They even have a popcorn maker down there. But if you want to do it the quick and easy way... they also have microwave popcorn. The Theater has lounger chairs and throw blankets to get all comfy in as you watch your movies. (Mom and I were bummed that we were so busy and so tired each night that we didn't get to have a movie night. Next time...) The guest room floor had a mini bar area that had a coffee maker and tea available all day long. As well as a mini fridge stocked with water and sodas. So nice to have this! Plus they had wine glasses and a wine opener in case you brought your own and wanted to enjoy a glass out on the porch. Oh... the Porch! This is where Mom and I would enjoy our morning cup of Joe. It was so peaceful and relaxing to slowly wake up, sit on the porch and listen to the birds while sipping coffee and reading our books. So Relaxing! (Note... the house sits up off the street so there isn't any street noise and it's surrounded by a wooded area so it feels like you're "getting back to nature".) And then there was Breakfast... Terry really outdoes herself. You have a starter like fruit or parfait and then you have the main course... possibly mini german pancakes or an egg dish. All of it was D-LISH! And the presentation! She really knows how to plate a lovely breakfast. She took breakfast to another level in my book. (BTW... I love breakfast, so I was taking mental notes on how I should present and prepare my own special breakfasts at home.) The Bed.... the comfiest bed I've ever slept in. Even more comfortable than my own at home. The sheets were so soft! I wanted to stay in bed all day. But alas... there were sights to see, family to visit... But I did take a picture of the tag on the sheets so I can try to find the same brand and type at home. I can go on and on... but I won't. If you want to know something specific or more, message me. If... no, no... WHEN we are back in Milwaukie.. we will be staying here again. Love this place. :)

Although if you are aware and not bothered will make this a five star for you! Crispy clean and perfect (not practically, but actually) for the venue genre. There are two parking places in the back so you might not have to park on the street which for us was a concern since we have a car that would attract attention from the local rascals. As one reviewer noted, the Petite does represent the spirit of kindness, acceptance, and community that Portlandia strives to achieve. No diamond in the rough since I dig the "roughness" of the Alberta District. I come to Portland rarely, but typically for our AFSP Board meeting usually located at a McMenamins which I'm not so fond of. Without hesitation, I would choose the Petite over any PDX McMenamins for the night. Thank you and I will recommend to my people!

I wanted that welcome sense of neighborhood and community I'm always hearing about in "Portlandia" and lucked into this diamond in the rough. The Alberta Petite Hotel is a peachy home and comfort B&B inn style hotel. Not only do you feel safe, warmth and a cup of cozy comfort all at once, but you great amenities and options for breakfast. The APH is easy to access both the main entrance and rooms with key pad locks whether anyone is available upon check in or check out. What's not to like.... I took a Lyft/Uber situation upon flying in and got in an hour later than I expected... so this was perfect. My room got an upgrade, which was a pleasant surprise as I flew in for my birthday weekend. I got to meet Robin (the owner) and her colleague in the morning... both very friendly, personable and warm. Good genuine people hoping to keep making anyone who stays here feel welcomed. They're around during the day, but don't live on site... there's currently three great rooms to choose from but talks of a 4th and suite on the way and lot of fun things I'm sure I'll get to experience my next visit and first choice stay. Amazing communication before and during my trip, not to mention on fun places to eat, but the Alberta caters to all needs and dietary restrictions. Lots of fun cafes, shops, and whatever your heart desires within walking distance. Easy to find. Hard not to love. I will definitely stay here again assuming they're not too booked up next time I decide to hang in Oregon or if I book in advance. Robin (the owner) is amazing!
