    More stains

We booked a dog friendly room. Our little dog has stayed with us many times in motel rooms. This was a nice, large room except the sofa was very old with peeling upholstery and stains which appeared to be large spills or dog pee. We covered it with a blanket. Surely management could at least invest in some cheap slipcovers. It made us feel very devalued and we will not stay here again. Beware of you are traveling with your dog and choose somewhere else. Its too bad as the rest of the room was nice.

I enjoyed my one-night stay at The Heathman Lodge in Vancouver, WA. Staff was incredibly polite and helpful. The room (king-sized bed) was basic and clean, with both a mini-fridge and a microwave, which was much appreciated. The area felt quiet and safe, sort of next to a corporate business park area. The lobby was decorated beautifully for Christmas and I loved the rustic vibe. (I especially love how they captured the rustic/woodsy vibes without defaulting to the creepy moose/elk/deer heads that you see in so many "lodges.") They also played birdsong in the hallways, which was pleasant (you can't hear it in the rooms themselves so no worries if you're the type who needs silence to sleep). I also went down to use the pool, hot tub, and dry sauna. These were a bit dated, but good-sized. In the early morning it was very quiet and tranquil, but by 9:30am it was filled with kids behaving badly, splashing everyone in the hot tub, doing cannonballs into the main pool even though a lady was working nearby on her laptop, just total disregard for others and zero adult supervision. It would be epic if The Heathman implemented a couple of "adults only" hours for the pool/hot tub, maybe one in the morning and one at night, so we didn't have to deal with disruptive behavior from poorly-supervised kids. The dry sauna also did not heat very quickly so I gave up on it within 10 minutes, but that could just be because people weren't aware of it so not using it regularly (it's tucked in the gym area, not the pool area). Still a great place to stay and I would definitely go back. I didn't try the restaurant but it looked cute.

The heathman is a hotel with a lodge feeling and decor. It is very clean and welcoming, you feel like you are walking into a log cabin. We were greeted immediately by a very nice gal. Our room was on the 3rd floor just near the elevator. As you exit the elevator you hear birds chirping, making you feel like you're outside. Although close to the elevator, our room was quiet and well stocked. Coffee machine, microwave and mini fridge. We stayed in a deluxe room with a sofa and desk. Plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The room was comfortable and had a nice hvac system to control the heat and AC. Plenty of lighting options in the room and a couple of locks on the door to make you feel safe. Staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly. Free coffee and tea 24/7 at the front desk. Plenty of parking onsite. Very pleasant atmosphere. Restaurant onsite, Hudson's bar and grill had the best breakfast, plenty for two to share. Close to the 205 and local shopping. We would stay here again.

The good: Friendly staff Beautiful grounds Free parking The bad: Dusty Dirty Stained towels Noisy The team was warm and friendly. They mentioned they'd provide a bottle of sparkling wine- that must be something you have to ask about. They had bird calls playing in the halls, which is nice. The room was dirty, the shower had hair in it, the towel in the shower was stained and ripped, the doors/walls look like they hadn't been wiped down in years. There was something sticky and splattered across the bathroom door. Luckily the bed linens felt clean- but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer.

I grew up in Hazel Dell and I come back to Vancouver once or twice a year to visit friends. My 50th High School reunion is coming up this August and we are staying (again) at the Heathman Lodge. This is the only place we will stay in Vancouver. It has the ambiance and charm of a mountain lodge, but in the city. We get a balcony suite since the rooms are all non-smoking, not that we smoke cigarettes. The place is clean, upscale, and friendly and Hudson's Bar and Grill is a good restaurant for either breakfast, happy hour, or a nice dinner.

We were invited for a free event, and it was being held here. I am just reviewing the room, staff, food and the restroom. I ordered the Salmon, hubby the beef. Photo, below for our dishes. My Salmon came with steamed vegetables, salad, bread, & cheesecake. The greens on my steamed vegetables (bitter). There was one I thought was kale, looked burned, so I tasted it, and it was sweet. I didn't finish the greens. I ate only half of everything, only because I filled myself with water & bread, and not really hungry, but more thirsty (even before dinner started). Otherwise, everything was very good, except the greens that was bitter. The beef came with scalloped potatoes, with cooked green beans, salad, bread & cheesecake. The steak was served with pan sauce added a delicious flavor, however, the steak was rare and rather 'tough'. The potatoes I LIKE! Dinner was served promptly. Servers very friendly! Neat & clean environment. Warm & inviting. The restroom was long & had sections for diaper changing, and enough hand drying hanging mechanism. While I was drying my hand, the one lady in the restroom stopped by me, to compliment me on my hair (with a European accent). While I was outside, talking to my husband about what she said, another lady (from our group) interrupts us, to compliment me on my hair. UPDATE: 1. The next day, hubby made a sandwich from the leftover beef. Thinly sliced, it was delicious! 2. My salmon went in my Top Ramen noodles, and with the vegetables, all cut smaller pieces. I think this method, was more BETTER than any Thai noodles I've eaten! I'm glad, I had my appetite back, and finished it all gone!

We were greeted nicely when we arrived, however our room was not ready for check in. Apparently they were having a bit of remodeling going on in the hotel. Once we got our room a quick look around certainly made the place look tired and neglected. Clearly ours was a room that had not been renovated yet. Tears in the curtains, dings on just about every wall in the room, a pretty dirty looking sofa and small holes in the walls in the bathroom. Look at the photos. The bed was ok, and the pillows were decent. I'd say the best part of this Homewood Suites is the location. Only a few blocks away you can walk for miles along the river with great views of Portland. I'd definitely consider staying elsewhere, however with the remodeling it may be better than when we stayed.

The property was going through a full remodel the last time we stayed. Our room had not been one of the remodeled rooms, having a fireplace, a dining table, and seating that was comfortable. A member of the team who dined with us was easily accommodated at the table. When we arrived we were a bit disappointed. We were scheduled for a 4:00 PM arrival and check in. We stopped for dinner first, arriving at about 5:00 PM and our room was not ready. We went back to our car and waited until about 5:25 when we were notified our room was ready. We were expecting the same comfortable feeling as our last visit. The room was now very modern, almost cold feeling. Don't get me wrong, the room was comfortable except a high back chair was no longer in the room, a modern "L" shaped sofa bed with a low back was in the living room. The room lacked any of the character we have come to expect. I commented to staff whom I met on our last stay, and they privately agreed. There was no longer a table in the suite. Instead there was a "waterfall" bar height "table." The suite was as shown in the photos with the fireplace having been removed during the remodel. The breakfast buffet was above average with different offerings every morning to go along with the eggs. The breakfast area still had the lodge feeling that we have come to expect. It was clean and very comfortable. Coffee was strong and hot, so I was happy. The property was well maintained, except the garbage outside of our room was not emptied in the four days/three nights we were there. The room did not meet our expectations as they were based on our last stay. Things change, I understand that. Had the room been ready on time and the garbage been emptied from immediately outside of our room this would have been a much better review.

The Good The hotel is located in the newish Vancouver (WA) waterfront west of I-5 bridge. Hotel has a valet ($$$$) but there is plenty of metered street parking nearby and a newly built parking garage one block away. The hotel itself is new, smells good, fireplace in lobby, and well-appointed throughout. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and my check-in was quick. Free wine tasting in lobby and drink coupons for restaurants (more on these later). The rooms are well appointed and clean with comfortable beds, large TV, and even a bedside sound machine and earplugs (hmmm, more on that later). Nespresso machine, bottled water, small fridge, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion in bathroom. The hotel is designed with a large atrium in the middle with all room facing inward. This includes a large space on Floor 2 where all floors look down on and includes comfortable seating areas, communal desks with plugs, etc. However on both of my visits this space was either unavailable or overrun by event groups. For dining, the 13 Coins restaurant ($$ pub), El Gaucho ($$$$ steak), top floor bar ($$$), and coffee shop ($) are connected to hotel. And within two blocks are at least 10 restaurants. Room service is also available. Needs Improvement Hotel fees. Although I didn't notice on my first visit, the hotel's taxes and fees are high, most notably a sneaky daily $29 called "Destination Fee." Or as I call it "the Spirit Airlines approach." Can't you just build into the room price? I didn't see this when I booked but guessing there's some fine print somewhere. It also explains the "complimentary" drink coupons at check-in. So here's how my $423.30/night broke out, $354.35 Accommodation $23.03 State Sales Tax (6.5%) $8.15 City Tax (2.3%) $7.09 County Lodging Tax (2%) $2.00 Tourism Fee $29.00 Destination Fee Hotel noise. The hotel has both outside and inside noise. Outside it's cars, motorcycles, tugboats, and people up and down the main street out front and river. Cue the earplugs and sound machine. Higher floors facing the river are better. Weekdays - and I experienced this on both visits - it's the convention they are hosting. And they host a lot of groups. People gather in the main atrium space where all rooms are exposed. My room was on the second floor where I had people gathered 15 ft from my door chatting early in the morning and socializing into the evening. I recommend avoiding floor 2 and going with floor 4+. Space availability. On both visits the atrium space was reserved to groups and unusable to guests. So for portions of my visit I had to stay in my room to work and relax vs use the space as advertised when I booked. Call ahead to find out what groups may be booked. All in all, I had pleasant stays and would return at $199/night or midweek to avoid noise. But I can't justify $400+ again.

We got two rooms. They were both the same and a complete nightmare. Dirty, no toilet paper, shower door wouldn't close all the way so water spraying everywhere, the smell in the building was bad. When we booked we paid for the breakfast and when they check you in for the breakfast, they ask your room number. She said it wasn't paid and that they would be charging us $14 and we said no we paid for it and she didn't believe us. She treated us very rudely. Then the breakfast was cold and I still don't know if they're gonna charge us as we just left there so we paid for two nights two different rooms and everything from paint fumes and loud noises and drilling at 9 AM on a Sunday morning to people screaming and arguing in the hallways at 4:10 AM, and then no necessities available like toilet paper in the room towels. When we went and asked for towels they had the guy from outside that was smoking, go in and grab them and hand them to us. He did not wash his hands or anything. It was just the worst place we have been. We usually stay at the Marriott, but they were full as we needed two room rooms for the family while the basement was being aired out. When you stay somewhere that says Hilton, you expect a lot more. This was more of a motel six experience not what we paid for. I would highly recommend finding a different hotel to go to. Really really bad. They say that they give you cookies we were never offered any warm cookies like they advertise. They have two bottles of water in the room which they charge you for. The refrigerator didn't keep our items cold, which we ordered stuff to put in there for the two days, we were all there, there was nowhere to park. They're doing renovations, but they should really close off the rooms on the floors that they're doing because there is dust and smells everywhere from chemicals and it has made me sick. If you look at some of the reviews from a year ago, they showed all the remodeling that was being done and there is nothing different a year from a year ago. It's absolutely amazing that this is a Hilton hotel.

If there was a negative they would get it…read more I arrived at 2pm and saw an elderly man at the counter asking to check in. Abby, the lady at the front desk stated he could check in early if he left a review. The gentleman did not know how so Abby took his phone and proceeded to make a review with his phone. When I got to the counter she informed me my room was ready and I needed to make a review to check in early (check in is at 4 and it was a little after 2). I said fine and she took my license, debit card and wrote me out a parking pass. She then asked to see the review. I stated I would do it in my room so I could leave a review on the room. She then looked at me and said my room was no longer ready. Abby said I could come back at 4. When I asked how it was ready a minute ago when she took my personal info and gave me a parking pass she simple said condescendingly that housekeeping needs to look at it. She told me I could wait in the lobby if I wanted too. After waiting 45 min I asked her if I could get checked in now and she dismissively said no and walked away. Needless to say I won't be staying here. I went down the road to Hilton and they are AMAZING! So welcoming, kind and professional. They got me a room right away and because of my horrible experience at Comfort they gave me some freebies. That is what hospitality is all about. If you are thinking of staying here DON'T! Go down a few blocks to the Hilton.

I walked in the lobby to check if they had a room available for the same night. I totally…read moreunderstand if they didn't, as I had no reservation. What i didn't expect was the extremely rude gal at the front desk. After a significant wait, I was disappointed by the conduct of the gal, her name was Abby. Her tone was unprofessional and condescending, which made for a very unpleasant experience. She was telling other customers who had reservation they could check in early if they would leave a "great review ". This type of behavior is inappropriate. If there was a room available (which there was) NO ONE deserves to be treated like she treated me. I believe it is important to give this review, to ensure the quality of service remains at an appropriate standard. I went to a different hotel and was greeted with warmth, welcoming. Go somewhere else, until they fix the front desk (Abby).
