Played today- Fairways are ok, the Tee Boxes are all sand, and the greens are in horrific condition. Chunks of grass missing, mini bunkers all over, impossible to putt. It's a shame because this was at times a great course to play in really good conditions. It's a fun course with a good layout. read more

You get what you pay for! You can't come to a little 9 hole course pay $20 and expect TPC quality. This is a great course for beginners. It is quiet enough that if you are not great there isn't someone behind you making you more nervous because you aren't playing fast enough. Saw a couple comments about rude staff, my experience there was fantastic, nice old man in the pro shop and the grounds guy were very friendly. I didn't give it 5 stars because the greens are very rough and could use a bit of love. read more

I recently started golfing and the first course I was recommended to go to was this one. The staff has always made sure that as a beginner golfer I have a pleasant experience. those I have had the pleasure to run into on the Course also golfing have also been really nice and helped me learn some new things. I did have an unpleasant experience with a volunteer however, it was addressed, and the general manager Ace handled it professionally. I played the course in February 2025. I found it a quite enjoyable round. The staff were very welcoming. The other players I met were also very friendly. The greens are slow but in good shape. Most of the fairways are forgiving (a wayward drive won't kill you) though there are a few that pose a challenge and a few where you have to carry water. This is an ideal course for a beginner. read more

This place is kind of a hit or miss (no pun intended). The service at the front could either be top notch/above and beyond/spectacular or downright offensive and tone deaf. The first time I came here I showed up 30 min early for my tee time, but they overbooked and ran out of carts or even pull carts - ended up bailing to Palmetto down the street! The second time went much better and I actually played the 9 holes. The course is reasonably well maintained and offered some challenges here and there. I will be coming back. read more

Overall horrible course. Greens are under maintained. Staff is rude. 3 of the holes are 120 yd par 3 b2b2b. I just walked in and was told they are closed WHILE people are WALKING out to play at 4:30 pm. I understand it's a later tee time, but if I see 3 walkers heading out to play right in front of me, I expect to be able to play 9 holes. Go play palmetto across the street 10/10 times. This is the second time I greet this older gentleman working the window politely with a hello, and he has a snarky comment to make and a disgusted look on his face. I may not be in the U.S.G.A., but I'm a paying customer and believe I should be treated with some respect. A hello and a "sorry were closed, but we open at this time tomorrow" would suffice. I'm only asking the bare minimum; however, this older man simply seems to hate his life and take it out on those around him. read more

The course is decent, greens are awful, we had to wait 45 minutes after our tee time to tee off. While we were teeing off, the course employees and others at the club house were being very distracting and heckling you before you tee. The ranger also was telling us we are using the wrong clubs as well as laughing after every drive. During the middle of the round, some ranger came up to us and harassed us about a simple mistake we made, after we apologized he kept going on and said we would get kicked off at others courses, we wished we would have chosen another course. Not coming back, until that ranger apologizes for ruining my day, and forcing me to shoot 40 yard over the green. Thanks again! read more

I feel like the course has some potential for being a little course to pass some time. A couple pretty tough and fun holes. It was pretty inexpensive, so that's good. This is the golf course to go to as a beginner. The cost is twelve dollars around, six more if you want a pull cart. The course is nine holes, but will still take a couple hours to get through if you golf like my friends and I. This is simply a relaxed fun place to come and play bad golf. 8 of the 9 holes are straight, though many have water hazards so bring extra balls. Many are simple par 3's with bunkers around the green, and then a couple, 3,5, and 6 are much longer and will actually let you use your driver (maybe not 3 if you can really hit). Everyone working here is nice, and helpful. They will not rush you, and if you take a large chunk out of the grass no one will give you a problem. Just try to replace your divit. There is not that much shade on the course, so wear a hat. shirts with collars are not requiered, but it is good form to wear one, even if we are slumming it on this course. Every one is supposed to have their own set of clubs, but the staff will look the other way if you share a set between two people as long as you keep moving along. Also if it is a slow day, they will also let you go out as a group of five. Beer and gatorade are sold in the front office, as are candy bars, tees, balls, and other little things. There are bathrooms at the beginning, and also out on the course after 3, or on the way back you will hit them again after 6. They are cleanish, but I get to stand when I use them. My women friends have never really complained when they used them. You are allowed to smoke cigars (though I hate it when my friends do) on the course, and beer is also allowed. Have fun, and remember that if you are holding other groups up, take a break and let them play through. read more

We were 2 experienced golfers who brought 2 unexperienced golfers to teach them. Paid at the desk and went out. There was a wait at the 1st hole which was expected on a weekend. We wait there for 25 mins and just as we are about to tee up the woman from the front desk runs out and yells at us that we need to rent clubs for the 2 unexperienced golfers, they are not allowed to use ours. So she couldn't have told us that when she was charging us and told her we had inexperienced golfers with us? Or while we were waiting? We go in to pay then have to get in line for the 1st hole again, and wait another 15 minutes. So we paid the extra $20 so we wouldn't lose what we already paid, but will never come here again. No one was around so I knocked on the window, seemed very upset that someone actually showed up to play a round of golf. The perfect course for a beginner who is not picky about being a fancy golfer. It is a nice challenging 9 hole course with reasonable pricing. It is a very relaxed vibe which is perfect if you aren't the scratch golfer that you want to be yet. This is a short, 9-hole "executive golf course." Mostly comprised of par-3s and a couple short par-4s, it's a place where it's possible to get in a quick round. Which of course doesn't always happen, when you have crappy golfers pretending like they are Tiger & Phil facing off in the final round of the Masters. You people aren't good enough to take that long, so get up there and hit the damned ball already! Yet, this is a common complaint on all South Florida courses, so I can't knock this particular course too much for that. Typical idiocy aside, it's an enjoyable course, especially if you want to work on your short and mid-range game. Leave the big sticks in the bag for this one, as there is not one hole where bombing a drive 300 yards will be advantageous. The course is actually on the tough side for an executive course, with holes 2 and 3 especially taking you by surprise. #2 is a tight par 4 with a row of residences to the left; as usual, I've duck-hooked balls in there many times. And even if you do manage to keep it safe off the tee, 2's green is the size of a postage stamp. #3 requires a finesse mid-range iron shot off the tee, then an intimidating 8-iron shot over water. It's not what I would call a forgiving "ego course." It's not my favorite place to play, but it's decent for what it is. read more

This course is not even worth the $4 per round that I paid via Groupon. The grounds and greens are in horrible condition and it's staffed by the crankiest, most hard headed octogenarians I have ever seen (This being South Florida, that's a pretty bold statement) What's even worse is that no one in the course knew anything about golf etiquette. Although I am giving it a 2 star, I do like coming here because it's a quick 9 holes and I use it as a practice locale. Having said that, the course is in dire straights! My 12 and 14 year old daughters thoroughly enjoyed their golf experience at the Briar Bay Golf Course. They played their first game and it was just the right speed. One daughter was on par for her first hole which was very nice. I think its only about $24 for the three of us if we want to bring our own push cart. That's a very reasonable price for the girls to practice their skills allowing us to play a game of golf frequently. I'm planning on bringing them here once a week to play a game. In between they will have golf lessons at the Biltmore with Renee Trudeau -- a very good golf instructor. The Biltmore has an excellent junior golf program to train the kids to have the best meticulous golf demeanor and skills. I'm not sure but Briar Bay Golf Course probably does have a kids program as well and I'm sure it is very nice for young ones to learn the game of golf. The staff were professional and as nice as the Biltmore staff. The first place I heard about this golf course was at Alf's Golf Shop. They highly recommended this golf course for my girls as the best economical place to learn to golf. read more

I played Briar Bay for the first time this afternoon, 8/11/13. I teed off after 3 pm, so it was only $9 to walk. My girlfriend dropped me off and went to The Falls Shopping Mall that's just blocks away. The practice putting green is under repair and closed. I met Bill at the First Tee and we played together. I was wearing my GOD=7_4 shirt and wondered if he'd ask what it meant? The First Hole is a 135 yard Par 3 with a narrow green that I parred. Hole 2 is a Par 4, but it's only 270 yards. This past weekend was the PGA Championship where those guys tried to drive the 14th 314 yard Par 4, so I figured I'd go for the green! That was a mistake. I pulled my drive out-of-bounds and just missed knocking somebody's hamburger off their barbeque grill. My 3rd shot was just short of the green and ended up on a hard pan lie, so I tried a pitch-and-run. I hit it well, but it stopped dead short of the green because of some muddy ground.. A 7 on the Par 4 hurt! The 3rd Hole is a nice Par 4 around a lake that I chili-dipped a chip and bogeyed. #4 is a 340 yard Par 4 that I almost made my 10-foot birdie putt. The Par 3 5th is a beautiful 125 yards over a lake. I pulled my tee shot, chipped short and missed a 12 footer. On #6 Par 4, I made it play a lot harder than it is. There's a lake about 260 off the tee, so I tried a 3 hybrid off the tee. I missed it short and under a tree. I tried to go low for the green with my 2nd shot, but it looked like I was aiming for the water. I lost my 2nd bol here. My 4th went over the small green and I missed my putt for another 7 on a Par 4. Ouch!! #7 is short but tricky, and I took a bogey 4. The GOD=7_4 Code has come up 3x, but Bill never asked about my shirt and I didn't bring it up. (We did talk alot about reincarnation. "Ben Franklin was reincarnated as Abraham Lincoln. George Washington's eternal soul returned as Robert E. Lee." He said, "My ex-wife is directly descended from Lee." "I wrote a book entitled, 'There Are No Coincidences'".) The 8th Hole is the easiest hole on the course: a straight away 135 yards that I hit just short of the green and putted up close for a tap-in par. Which brought me to the last hole. #9 is a 147 yard Par 3 that was into a very strong wind. I pulled a 6 iron and it ended with a tough downhill lie next to the sand trap on the left. I don't remember reading this page in Tiger's book and I hit it thin across the green into the right trap. Now I've got a hard downhill lie in the back of the trap that I again hit thin and it goes across the green past where my tee shot was! How embarrassing! I almost picked up, but I wanted to actually finish. Another triple-bogey and in front of my girlfriend and others. What a humbling game. I want to return to Briar Bay and prove to myself that I'm a golfer. It's not in great shape, but it's a nice layout for an executive course. The small greens make it hard and it requires some course management. It only took an hour and 40 minutes to play. The greens were Ok, the tees were Ok, but the fairways were pretty torn up! You can't play the ball down. It's well trapped, but not much sand in the bunkers. I think I could shoot Par 31, but I didn't make the cut today.
