My time with this dentist has changed my life. I just got back from a root canal 20 minutes ago. Yes, go here. Here's some pros: -beautiful office -clean -friendly & efficient staff -cohesive and collaborative work environment -punctual scheduling -great dentist (Brian is who I see) BUT... additionally... if you're ashamed, deal with TMJ, have decay or haven't gone in awhile... go here. I've cried secretly during both visits because of how welcoming, judgement free, and ready to work they are. Dr. Brian massaged my jaw closed throughout the root canal process. My #18 was killing me. Now I shouldn't know what number my tooth is but that's how bad the pain was. Called around to find someone to do a root canal, everyone was booked out for weeks. My jaw hurt so bad. Dr. Z to the rescue. He was able to fit me in the next day. Clean nice office. Friendly and efficient staff. Saw the problem and jumped right in. They don't know how to do fillings. Had to go back once already to have them fix the fillings they put in cause they didn't leave a gap in-between which didn't let me floss. 2 months later and I still can't chew on my left side cause another filling hurts when chewing on it. OH MY GOODNESS..... If you are looking for an outstanding Dentist you have found it! I called for an appointment after having a bad experience elsewhere and was offered an appointment the next day. I walk in and told her my name and I was immediately welcomed! I was so comfortable and my nerves were calm.... I was called back within minutes by Paulene for X-Rays. She is so genuinely friendly! I felt like I've been going here for years! After my x-rays I was taken to a chair and was immediately greeted by Dr.Brian Zwahlen! He was very nice and explained my dental options to my husband and I. I told him what I wanted to do and he started my dental work right then.... I was so happy to get the process going. Paulene was with me the entire time! She was always asking if I was okay and the Doctor as well! I was able to watch tv and I never had any pain or discomfort!!Dr. Zwahlen explained the procedure. Pauline was so knowledgeable!! The office manager explained the charges and had no hidden surprises! Im so impressed with this entire office! They are all so sweet!! You feel like family!! I will do before and after photos the second week of March. I highly recommend this Dental Office! Dr. Zwahlen is bout the nicest Dentist I have ever met with. He is not only kind but careful and gentle during the procedure. He is easy to talk to about concerns or fears. When explaining to him my fear of dental work he made me feel understood and then acted accordingly. I went in because I had pain in the entire left side of my mouth. He diagnosed an infection and the tooth that was bothering me. I was able to start antibiotics that day and back the next day for a procedure. His staff is just as kind and welcoming. On a weekend I started experiencing unbearable severe tooth pain. I called the office number and was referred to an emergency number. Right to the Dr.! I left a message and the Dr. called me back within two hours. Mind you, this was early morning on a Saturday. Dr. Zwahlen made an emergency appointment for me within an hour of returning my call!!! Pretty amazing. He was able to figure out what was going on and give me an antibotic and a couple injections of lidocaine. He even offered to come back in that evening if I needed another injection of lidocaine (my stomach does not tolerate oral narcotics very well). On Monday I came back in for a root canal. Yay ME! I wasn't feeling well after battling the tooth pain all weekend, and a migraine as well. My threshold of pain tolerance and life in general by that time was pretty low, and I was not particularly gung ho about being there. However, I wanted the pain gone and problem taken care of. Dr. B was very understanding and communicative during my root canal, as was the gal who was assisting him (sorry don't remember her name...she had long curly hair). They really helped get me through it without having a complete breakdown....ok well I guess maybe I had a little bit of a breakdown, because at at one point I was bawling like a baby. That sweet assistant held my hand and kept reassuring me. The Dr. too also was very reassuring and comforting. This all despite the crazy noises that I was making. Imagine trying to stop crying (and failing miserably) when your face is covered with a rubber procedure square and you have a nose mask on for the nitrous. I'm sure it sounded much like a Hippo mating call. My apologies to the office staff, and anybody out in the waiting area who may have heard and wondered what on earth the noise was. Not a shining moment in my life. It's been 3 days since my root canal and I am thanking the Lord for relief and am so thankful for the exceptional care I received at Dr B's office. Before I posted this I did read some of the other reviews about the waiting/reception area and staff. I did have to wait just a little while and it would have been nice for one of the ladies up front to acknowledge that they remembered me there. But... they made eye contact with me and I knew THEY knew I was there waiting. Not that big of a deal...just a suggestion though. read more

My regular dentist retired and I'd put off making an appointment anywhere. When my front tooth ached so constantly that I could no longer ignore it, I chose Dr. Brian Zwahlen. I've known him personally for a number of years (meaning I had a chance to look at his teeth as well as his family's - am wary of a dentist who doesn't take care of his or his family's teeth), and a number of people who are patients highly recommended him. An early morning call got me in that afternoon for that root canal I could see coming. His office works quite efficiently. Each staff member knows his/her job, is good at it and fully explains all procedures. They are smart, kind and efficient! Dr. Zwahlen did an outstanding job and saved a tooth I was afraid I'd doomed by waiting. He outlined a plan for some future work, and his staff scheduled those appointments for my convenience. About the gentleman who complained about staining - some months ago a sustained treatment of strong antibiotics caused black stains on a number of my teeth. The hygienist worked diligently to get them off, for which I am so very grateful. As I age, the one thing I am still vain about is my smile. I have all thirty two teeth ( I know I am fortunate) and it is my plan to "take them with me," still embedded in my jaw. So I am sorry about your experience, don't know if you are a coffee drinker or smoker or if you just need to request a person with whom you work better. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Still paying a steep price for seeing Brian Zwahlen. He did a few procedures and botched every one. I confirmed this by going to another dentist, then to an endodontist. First Zwahlen did a root canal. It was odd because he used no special equipment and he needed to X-ray me 8 times during the procedure. Weeks later it was painful. Zwahlen brushed it aside when I told him about the pain "it's probably the tooth next to it". It was still painful months later, after going somewhere else I found out it needs to be redone by a specialist. Throwing away money to Zwahlen. First root canal I've ever had that was painful after. He did an extraction of a molar and it was basically him yanking on it for 45 minutes. No kidding. It was the most scared I've ever been in a dentist or doctors office. Zwahlen might remember this because afterwards he joked "Well I won't have to go to the gym tonight, I got my workout." After that, it got dry socket, and I had to go to his office every few days for him to pack gauze in it. It was a month of unbearable pain. Advil & Tylenol wouldn't touch it. First extraction I've had that took more than 10 minutes, or got dry socket. Then I was supposed to get one filling. After the procedure, he said he did 3 fillings in 3 teeth. I was concerned but, I assumed he knows what he's doing. After the numbness wore off, I was in terrible pain. I've had fillings before, they were never remotely painful. This was very painful. He saw me then next day at my urging, and again brushed it off. "It'll get better". It never got better. I went to another dentist after this, one of the fillings Zwahlen did needed a root canal! Got it done by a specialist. Not cheap. The second filling needs to be redone, the 3rd filling is fine. Wasted thousands at this office. Do yourself a huge favor and RUN somewhere else. I take amazing care of my teeth. I am always brushing flossing etc. I lived in Fresno for 12 years and I never had an issue with my teeth. Moved to Modesto and I went to this guy once and I had 2 cavities. Thought that was strange because I've never had a cavity before and nothing in my dental routine changed. My mother never has has cavities before and neither has my brother and they both had cavities the first time they came to this office. They were rough when they filled mine in. So I went back to my dentist in Fresno. Worth the 2 hour drive twice a year. Not going back to this place again!! Btw I haven't have a cavity since and neither has my brother or mother!!! Worst dentist I've ever been to in over 40 years. Front office "staff" more interested in their phones and chit-chat than the customer. Dental tech I had today was horrible. I have heavy staining on my teeth and she got me out of there like never before, not in a good way,....looked in the mirror when I arrived home and the stains are still there! It's more of a dentist factory... a pair of "professionals" with little or no personality towards their patients. Get 'em in get 'em out. Dr. Zwahlen and Pauline are amazing. I had a tooth that a Dentist told me at a young age that it could not be removed. For 40 years I never smiled right because this tooth was a canine tooth that stuck out. I was always embarrassed and ashamed. One day I came to his office and he said to me let's get it out and make you smile again. I was so nervous. Pauline said to me you can do this!? The office staff was so encouraging and told me it will be just fine. Everyone was so amazing! During the tooth extraction Dr. Zwahlen was so sweet and very caring on how scared I was. Pauline was so amazing. She held my hand all the way through the extraction. Dr Zwahlen asked me several times are you ok? They are the most caring, compassionate, group of people you will ever meet. Going to a dentist is always so nerve racking and to have a Doctor and his staff be so caring and amazing makes going to the dentist so much easier. Our family has been going to dr Brian Z for years and he and staff are excellent. My daughter is married and she still comes from the Bay Area to this dentist. I have been going to this dentist for over 20 yrs. I started with Lynn and transitioned over to Brian. I would not go to another dentist for anything. He is very caring and most of all compassionate. I had a dental emergency that lasted a week and he made sure to text me everyday and saw me everyday including when the office is closed on weekends. Becky the front office staff is awesome. She doesn't treat you just like a patient. They all know who you are when you walk in which is very nice. As much as I dislike the "dentist" I am a lucky person to have Dr. Brian Zwahlen as mine. Gave this place a try since I was referred by a Friend. I was in terrible pain due to needing a root canal. When I told the receptionist I was in pain, she booked me immediately for the same day and got a root canal immediately. Dr. Brian is very comforting and gentle. Some of the front staff are rude, talking to each other or on their phones, while you stand at the counter. Then they act like they are being bothered when you ask a question. It seems like an assembly line, not personable. Wish I was back at my old dentist, but it costs$40.00 more per visit. I guess you get what you pay for. read more
