I work at a facility that needs lots of plumbing servcies. Every time I call Brian Wear they are quick, patient and professional. I would recommend them to anyone. Watch out for the fake, hometown friendliness they will initially lay on thick. Pros: They showed up the day I needed them. Cons: They then proceeded to do work I never authorized at an outrageous price, followed by rude customer service when I called in to talk about it (the woman who answered the phone, who I think was Brian's wife, argued with me and claimed that I had signed before the work was started--until I pointed out that I had not). Maybe Brian is a great and honest plumber, but the company isn't. Avoid at all cost. I've used multiple plumbing companies in Columbia over twenty years and every single one did better work at a lower cost, and I didn't have to be insulted in the process. I have never had a worse customer service experience than the incredibly rude woman we spoke to at the front desk after the tech came out to our house, didn't perform any service, and tried to charge us. I'm assuming it was Brian's wife, who was rude at the front desk by the way Brian responded. He said: "I suggest you find someone willing to work for free, good luck." No service was performed, Brian. Not sure what we are paying for. I'm sure Brian is going to respond to this review as he has for other bad reviews saying things like "well you're a liar" or "we do good work, just look at our other reviews." Don't listen to them. Pretty sure they are deleting reviews. What happened: We called to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and diagnose our toilet and shower leak so we could give the diagnosis to our home warranty company. Our home warranty requires that we send them the diagnosis before beginning work or they won't reimburse us. I specifically stated that all I needed was a diagnosis of the issue by a licensed individual so that I could take that information to my home warranty company to see if they would cover any work that may be required.  We were told the diagnosis would cost $80. The tech came out on March 22nd and said he WOULD have been able to diagnose the issue for the $80 if we had the toilet removed and had cut a hole in the ceiling before he arrived. They didnt inform us of that when we booked and it would now be close to $400 for the diagnosis to cut the drywall and move the toilet. They also couldnt just take the toilet off, they had to fix it that day which we didnt want because of the Home Warranty. He left without doing anything. We called seeing if they could come out after we removed the toilet and cut the hole and they said it would be another $80, even though nothing was done the first time. $160 total isn't the problem, and we would have used them for the service after the home warranty approved it. We also would have paid 2 service fees if needed....if they had responded kindly when we called. The problem is the manager of the front desk accused us of scamming them and said she was tired of dealing with us. It had been 2 days since the tech came out and we hadn't ever talked to her, she had just heard we called in. She then became angry that we gave their number to the home warranty company, which we didn't. The home warranty company must have found them on google. This all could have been avoided if they would have just told us how much it was to get a diagnosis upfront and kept level headed when we asked what the next steps were. She could have pleasantly said no to the tech coming back out for the orginal fee, but she chose to be incredibly rude. I understand losing us as customers is a small loss, but in Columbia, word of mouth is everything to a small business like yours read more

This service was performed more than 2 years ago. My first review was never uploaded. So, I am writing one again. They performed replacement of a shower handle and valve, replaced a tub valve and part in one of the toilets. The entire process took less than 90 minutes. The cost of those services and parts on line even in the northeastern US was around $350. The Brian Wear Plumbing, self proclaimed fair price guys, ripped me off for $750. The service person went to check the water pressure and broke the outside faucet that made water leak in our basement. He made us pay for fixing that too, I guess. Even with this addition, it should not be $760. if I could give a rating of one star, I would have done that. Beware of the rip-off artists. read more

Unethical and dishonest company. I have a damaged faucet and called the service number for a service. When the service representative arrive he said he could fix it but need two parts and he would return shortly. The water was pouring out of the back of my house. He choose to never return or call. So I called the dispatch and asked her to return my call to find out if he was going to do what he said. She never returned my call. I was told by a friend who was in the business that that sounded like Brian. Don't waste you time or money contacting them. PS. I called the fire department and they were able to help turn the water off so I can get someone else to help. read more

Called to get an estimate for installing new garbage disposal. No complications or extra issues - just remove old one & install same model but brand new one. Told they can't give any kind of estimate (you'd think a long time professional company would at least have some kind of general ballgame idea - surely a plumbing company has installed garbage disposals before, right??? ) without coming by to look first which costs $80 fee. With other service/repairs, the estimate fee is waived or reduced if you decide to have the work done. We'd also asked to get an invoice. However when we were OK with estimate, they wouldn't waive/reduce the $80 fee unless they could reschedule the service for a much later date. We had already bought the exact same garbage disposal ourselves from Home Depot. So it was available for the plumber to inspect during visit & we just needed it installed. A holiday weekend was going up & we wanted to get the job done. It just took a bit over 30mins to complete the job. They then expected full payment at time of service including the extra $80 fee (turns out they refuse to invoice). That would have been nice to know upfront. Also they weren't able to even give us a receipt after we did pay them (only could mail us a receipt later). Buyer BEWARE!!!!! Excessive HIGH PRICING. I'll admit the actual work done mostly good (they didn't have the right power cord & had to use substitute - who doesn't inventory basic universal cords in a service truck) but the customer service needs improved. Will never again use this company for service & will be telling everyone I know to choose someone else. There's other plumber company's with BOTH good work AND good customer service. read more

We used them to install a new water heater. Out old one was theoretically under warranty but the warranty was not honored. BW technicians were very patient as I negotiated warranty issues, and very good, thorough and efficient when installing the new water heater I bought from them. Never buy a major appliance from a big box store! Outstanding! read more

They have done good work for me in the past with toilet repair issues. The last time I had them fix a toilet I asked them to mount a new seat that I had bought for it. I spent $375 total for the job. They charged me $35 to mount the seat. It's a 5 minute job. It's clear that they no longer value their repeat customers. They have gotten too big for their britches. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I paid for a tech to come out and give an estimate. After calling to inquire about the estimate a week later, I was told that I only paid for the tech to come out and look, not for an estimate (which did me no good). I was then told an estimate was sent by email, but they could not forward the email as evidence that it was sent, nor was I able to locate such an email in my email account. Waste of time and money. This was the best and worst experience ever. It was the worst because everything that could go wrong, did. It was the best because Brian did a great job even with all the problems. My water heater broke on a Monday. We called Brian that morning and he said he would swing by at 5:00. He was ON TIME!!! Next, he spend an hour trying to get the element out of the heater...no luck. Ultimately it was decided he would have to go get a new water heater. Sadly, the water heater in the closet didn't actually fit without taking the door jam down. Brian did all of this. He bought the new heater, took the old one away, took down the jam, put up the jam...and didn't even get to leave until after 9:00. Not only did he do a good job, but he also was very congenial and pleasant to talk to. I would definitely recommend him and would use his service again. read more

Brian's was able to come soon after I called. BJ arrived, was able to fix the problem, and then took care of other issues I had around the house. Didn't try to upsell me on anything (e.g. Water softener). BJ was professional, clean, and cleaned up after himself. Don't call any of those big ad companies!! I highly recommend Brian's. read more

First negative review I've ever submitted for a home service provider. First, their plumber tried to convince me I needed to purchase a $1,400 toilet for a rental property (really??) They adjusted the valve on a different running toilet, but when that did not solve the problem, they wanted another almost $200 to come back out to put in a new valve and flapper. Brian Wear Plumbing did not honor their advertised warranty. It appears their plumbers work on commission and try to sell more expensive units and services than needed. read more

Worst experience I have had with a plumber, was like going to Custom Muffler on the South Side. Brian Wear and a tech could not figure out what the issue was with a smell from my water heater. 2 hours of walking around doing nothing they decided on pouring bleach down into the tank and charging me $200.00 dollars. A week later I broke down and called MasterTech Plumbing and within 30min they determined I had a gas leak. So long story short you can call confused Brian Wear and be charged $200.00 for what I can assume was a training session or get a professional assessment for $50.00. read more

BEWARE!!! BEWARE!! BEWARE!! Make sure you want to use these guys before you have them come to your house. I called to see about getting a faucet replaced in my kitchen. I asked the person on the phone if she could give me a rough estimate of what it might cost. She told me she had no way of doing that. So, I decided I'd pay the extra $49 for them to come, but didn't figure they'd be much higher than another plumber here in town. The guy shows up, walks into my kitchen, points to the faucet and asks if that is what is being replaced. I told him yes. He asked if they had given me an estimate over the phone. I told him no, that I had asked for one, but she wouldn't give me one. He pulled out this little booklet and said he just needed to find in the book what it would cost. Let me remind you he did nothing more than walk in my kitchen to start with. He scans the page in the booklet and proceeds to tell me that it is going to cost 4 times what another plumber had quoted me. I reminded him I'd already purchased the new faucet, and he said that price was not including a faucet. I told him there was no way I was paying that much. He said it would take him around 2 1/2 hours to complete the job. I had to pay him $49 and he was at my house a whole 5 minutes total. There is no reason that the person on the phone couldn't have looked in the same little booklet and at least have given me the minimum cost that it might cost me. It's a giant scam that they won't give you some sort of an idea up front with a caveat that it could obviously cost more if the job warranted it. I was able to get another plumber to come short notice given my situation. It took him less than an hour to replace the faucet. The Brian Wear Plumbing guy said it would take about 2 1/2 hours. That alone feels a little shady to me. Makes you wonder how they have the good reviews they have if this is how they truly do business. I emailed them to complain about the way this went down. To their credit I did get a phone call. However, the phone call essentially was Brian telling me that they told me up front about the $49 fee and that they can't give any quotes over the phone not knowing what the job was. We agreed to disagree. I'll remind you again......their tech walked into my kitchen, pulled about a little book, scanned the page, and told me the cost in less than a minute. This is without him doing anything except point to my faucet and asking if that was what they were replacing. I was very clear when I made the appt. that I needed them to come replace a kitchen faucet. Her fingers could have scanned the same page and told me a rough estimate. And why so high?? Brian's reason was they were in this to make money, not lose money. I'm guessing the other plumber that came and did the job for $65 for less than an hour job wasn't losing money. Brian Wear Plumbing wanted to charge 4 times the cost and tries to say it was going to take him 2 1/2 hours. Shop around. I'd think there might be a lot of alternatives, especially in Columbia for someone who might not rip you off. read more
