Jim Chandler Pools - Welcome to the River Pool, where nature's beauty unfolds in intricate detail.

This was our first pool, so we wanted to make sure we selected someone who is a good pool designer…read moreand builder. We spent many hours researching and carefully reviewed all the pool builders in our area. Many of the local pool companies had mixed reviews, even the pool company recommended by our builder had very mixed reviews. When I researched Jim Chandler Pools, all his reviews were all good, I even checked several different websites and those had good reviews too. Because of this we decided to give him a call to discuss our pool project and from the moment I spoke with Jim, I knew we had the right guy. He was easy to talk with and listened to what we were looking for in a pool, he gave us lots of ideas and options to think about before our first meeting. Jim went to our new home site to review the lot/backyard to ensure what we had discussed was going to work in our new backyard. Once we met in person to review the plans, he made recommendations in order to try to keep us in budget or as close to it as possible. When I called Jim's references, everyone I spoke with highly recommended him, they enjoyed working with him, said he was very professional, kept them up to date with the progress, and completed the project on time and in budget. During Jim's first meeting with the City's Planning department, he found out we had very expansive soil which is a problem when installing pools. Jim explained the extra costs when building a pool with expansive soil, it creates a lot of extra work during construction as well as a lot of extra cost to reinforce the pool and pool deck. To help cover the extra costs, Jim recommended some changes to our design in order to save money to help cover the unexpected costs as we did not budget for this type of problem. We were still over budget but some of it was the expansive soil and the rest were my fault . Jim would be on site for each step to ensure everything was done to his expectations. All the contractors Jim uses do great work, they are on time, very professional, and cleaned up after they completed their work. After working with Jim, I now know why the references I called spoke so highly him, he is a great contractor, stays on top of every detail, works closely with you during the whole process from start to end. We just finished our pool, took longer because of soil issues and Covid but we made it. We are very happy with our new pool; and look forward too many years of enjoying the pool. We are very happy we choose Jim Chandler Pools; he really enjoys his job and it shows with the completed product. I am sure there are cheaper pool builders out there, but if you want it done right then I highly recommend Jim Chandler Pools.

UPDATE: It's been three years now. We have had two issues with our pool. First, a lot of…read morehorizontal trim tile came off on the spa area where it connects with the pool. We had two separate repairs made on it, and it has held since the last repair which was last summer. Apparently some water got under the tile and continued to move through them, pushing them up. The tile work was warranted for three years, so there was no charge to us. The other issue is really a matter of design. The spa was designed at the same level as the pool, with water that communicates between the two. In the summer or when there is not rain, the system works fine, and the hot tub will be hot within about 30-60 minutes, depending on the outside temperature with almost no pool water coming in and cooling it off. However, as soon as the pool water level rises much at all (after just a couple of rains), the hot tub takes much longer to heat. At about $20/hour to heat it and more than an hour, it is not worth it to us. We checked with Jim about raising the level of the spa, and he checked with the builders and it is not recommended. We are very disappointed because the only solution is to spend hours draining the pool down to a normal water level. We had normal rains last year, and more than normal this year, but after five years of drought, it seems wasteful and we know that the autofill will just end up kicking on again when the temperatures warm up. So our choice is to not use the spa all winter or to discard all the extra water at a time when our water infrastructure is at a maximum level in the area. If we were doing another pool/spa combination we would DEFINITELY have the spa elevated to avoid this design issue.

Not only did they fix the system, they made excellent suggestions for improvement, in particular, minimizing water use, and making the system more resistant to damage. Daniel, the owner, is very knowledgeable and easy to work with; doing a couple of upgrades at no additional charge to us. It was a big job...all materials of the highest quality, along with the addition of 20 yards of mulch...completed quickly, at a fair price. We now have a much more efficient irrigation system thanks to this business. Superb in every detail. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We hired Pacific Land Design to install a paver patio, water feature, outdoor shower and plants…read more  The job required grading for drainage and correct elevation for the patio.   Elyse created a nice design and it seems like they have some good knowledge on native plants.   Eventually, we had to fire them when it became apparent that their work would damage the structural integrity of our home, create a drainage nightmare, and that the finished product was not going to look professional at all.  Through this experience we realized that they are also not licensed or insured.  Prior to starting the job we discussed with them that there would need to be significant grading done to the yard in order to have the patio slope away from the house which is a basic standard and to have the subsequent level of the yard drain properly.  We also removed siding and showed them where the foundation met the rim joist of our home and discussed how that patio needed to be below this level.  When it became apparent that Daniel wasn't meeting these discussed parameters, we got our laser level out and discussed with him again the way it needed to be graded and that more grading needed to take place, thinking he understood, we went on vacation.  We came back from our trip and realized that the grading was still completely inadequate.  Everything including the patio was sloped into the house.  Despite our previous discussions, Daniel piled the road base for the patio up onto our homes rim joist (not pressure treated wood) without any bituthene or flashing.  He also used non-pressure treated boards to hold in the back side of fill in other areas.  Had we not caught this, the boards and our rim joist would have rotted out in a few years compromising the structural integrity of our house and leaving the landings on our paver patio hollow and unsupported.  Also, we would have had terrible drainage issues because the entire yard was sloping into the house.  Unbeknownst to us Daniel cut and capped a line in our well house without knowing what it was and opened a valve that was taped shut and said "keep closed".   After paying a well contractor $400 to diagnose our complete loss of water to the house and fix the problem, we were told that Daniel had cut and capped the line from our well to our holding tank and then opened the line directly from the well to the house which isn't pressure regulated and could have burst our plumbing.  There were numerous other issues: steps and landings laid poorly and all at random heights, Daniel ruining several of our porcelain pavers ($80 a piece) with an angle grinder instead of using the manufacturer stated wet diamond blade ect.  Since firing PLD I have spoken to two other members of our community that had serious drainage and other structural/safety issues with their work.  I wasn't going to leave a review because Elyse seemed genuinely regretful and like she took these concerns seriously. She said they were only going to do simple planting jobs etc. however, I just learned that despite the feedback from us and 2 other clients on their negligent work they are doing another big job with a friend of ours and there have been significant issues including with the drainage.  Because of this I feel it would be irresponsible not to warn others. Elyse was apologetic about our concerns and she refunded us for the labor on the parts of the job that they had not completed.  We had already paid well over the 50% deposit because they said the materials were a lot more than they expected.  I'm thankful they refunded us what we asked for.  I don't know if this is willful negligence or a complete lack of construction knowledge and common sense, either way it's unacceptable.  Pacific Land Design may do an adequate job with small planting jobs but I would not have them do anything that requires craftsmanship, construction knowledge, touches your home or could involve drainage etc.

I called and spoke with Randeep, who scheduled me within 2 days with an irrigation specialist. I had an appointment this past Wednesday for Danny to come by and take a look at the leak. Not only did Danny fix the leak, he replaced the valve completely with newer, more up to date parts as my home is 20+ years old. After addressing the original issue, he noticed that two of my sprinklers were not functioning and replaced them, even without me asking! Wow! He then recommended that I replace my sprinkler timer as well, since it was also an older/outdated model. I purchased a new timer, in which he took the time to walk me through step by step to make sure I understood how to use the timer and make necessary adjustments and also made sure to go through the schedule not once, but twice to ensure I was satisfied with the watering schedule and overall water flow. During the walkthrough, I noticed there was a huge leak coming from a drip line in my backyard that caused a puddle in my lawn. He explained that the leak in the drip line may have been caused my running it over with a lawnmower or by me accidentally hitting the line with a weed wacker. I asked Danny how much it would cost for him to fix the leak, and he said, "This is such an easy fix, I'm almost positive you can fix it on your own." He then recommended the parts I needed to fix the leak, and sure enough, I was able to fix it on my own! He made sure to keep in contact with me while I went to Home Depot to make sure I bought the right parts. Danny went above and beyond and provided exceptional service! He was patient, honest, kind, and very knowledgeable, which is a true reflection of the company. Nowadays, it's hard to find a trustworthy company that won't take advantage of you! Thanks again to Randeep and Danny for making this a great experience from beginning to end. I would absolutely recommend this place for any of your landscaping needs!
