I pass by Monumental Coffee on a regular basis on my way to work. I'd long been curious about it,…read moreand I finally found myself in the area for an appointment and stopped in. As other reviews have noted, this is a coffee shop within Sheraton. I'm not quite sure why I didn't realize this up front, however, it's not really that obvious from the outside. Monumental serves Starbucks products, though it's not a Starbucks and your rewards and pay options can't be used here. On the plus side? People were friendly. Decor is warm and very welcoming. Despite being part of a hotel, it's pretty calm (but does get busy). As is nearly always true for Marriott-branded locations (as Sheraton is), accessibility is strong and I had plenty of room to move around. As is true for downtown Indy, parking isn't really a joy here and I can't picture this being a "stop-in" place for people. It's a place you'll go if you're at the hotel, working downtown, or simply in the area. I was hoping to find a cool indie gem. That's not quite Monumental, though it's certainly a solid option for those in the area. Since Starbucks vacated the Circle, it's likely the closest option for those needing a Starbucks buzz.

The women working at the coffee stand appeared to perform regular labor, yet I was unable to find clear information about whether they were fairly compensated. The organization collects revenue through the business, but there seems to be very little public accountability regarding where the money goes or how it directly benefits the women involved. I believe potential donors and customers should ask questions about participant compensation, financial transparency, and program oversight before supporting this organization. Nonprofits should be held to a high standard, especially when they claim to be helping vulnerable young women.

They have a handful of inside tables, assortment of baked foods like muffins and four to five coffee selections on hand as well prepared drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. I wasn't able to see who provides their coffee beans or if it was local. While there, I learned that they have a second location a few blocks away near the Repertory Theatre. The young lady working the counter was friendly. My only suggestion would be spicing up the interior space and the counter display and offering a few more local treats/ingredients. Overall, a great spot to grab a no frills cup of joe.

They have a good amount of seating in the main room and potential for a more private small group gathering in the other (long table). I visited while construction was going on downtown, so parking was a little tricky. I ended up parking on a street about a two minute walk away. No biggie! It was nice weather and I enjoyed the stroll. The tea I ordered was really nice! It was a simple black tea, and they took the time to steep it for the proper amount (~4 min) behind the counter. Loved that! I will say, a large hot tea cost a little over $6.50 with tax, which felt ... excessive. Definitely higher price point than my usual spots! So may or may not come back when I'm in the area, depending on if it feels worth it that day.

There is a small outdoor patio to sit and enjoy your drink. That is where people sit with their four legged friend since they are not allowed in the shop. In addition to teas, cappuccino, lattes, hot and iced coffees, they have a few homemade baked goods. Be sure to check out some of their signature brews. It has a real chill coffee house type of vibe going. The shop offers catering and is available to be rented for private events after hours. The person working the shop during my visit was very nice and helpful. I got a large iced raspberry white mocha with oat milk. It took less than 5 minutes to prepare and it was very savory. I really liked it. I kept trying to get more out of my cup, even though deep down I knew that I had drank it all. This is an awesome local coffee shop with a great staff, amazing vibe and mouthwatering drinks. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area and looking to get your coffee fix.

From the moment I walked in, there were around eight customers waiting for their drinks. I drove quite a distance to check this spot out as part of my Coffee Passport journey, so I was committed to giving it a try. I waited about 20 minutes just to place my order, and even then, there were still around five people ahead of me waiting for their drinks. It appeared there was only one employee working, and while she was doing her best and apologizing for the wait, the service experience was difficult. In total, I spent almost an hour there, making it the longest I've ever been at a coffee shop for just "stopping in." I'd seen great reviews of the Cookie Butter Latte online, so I had high hopes! My first few sips were promising, but after giving it a good mix, the flavor became a bit too much for me. The Chicken Bacon Ranch Empanada was good, but it left me wanting a little more too. Another disappointment was the Coffee Passport experience itself. Since it's a stamp-based passport, I was surprised they didn't have a stamp available. Instead, I received a coffee sticker rather than even a shop-specific sticker. With so many other participating coffee shops offering their own stamps, I expected a similar experience here. The space itself was cool, but when you hear "cafe and botanical," you picture a lush, plant-filled atmosphere. I wasn't expecting artificial plants, which took away a little from that vision. Overall, I was genuinely bummed because I had been looking forward to this visit! Between the long wait, the drinks and food not quite meeting my expectations, and the Coffee Passport experience, I can't say I'd make the trip back anytime soon. If it were closer to home, I might consider giving it another chance, but for now, this one just wasn't a favorite!

I ended up pitching the drink after a few sips, which was especially disappointing considering it cost $12. While walking around the farmers market, I noticed that most of the coffees from Rose & Lois had that same very light color, which made me wonder if I just caught an off day or if this is typical. My first time having Rose & Lois, it was definitely on the lighter side but I could still taste the flavors of espresso & syrups of my choosing. The coffee truck and shop are absolutely adorable, and I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately, today's latte totally missed the mark for me.
