We have visited Vintages Estates from Pittsburgh on multiple occasions now after hearing what a…read morecraft beer haven it is. Honestly it's been a bit of a mixed bag which makes it tricky to review. First off the setup. You enter into a wine shop. Then the next room has a little seating and a small bar. Then shelf after shelf and cooler after cooler of craft beer. You truly could get lost and spend hours exploring the selection. It can be overwhelming. They have a ton of variety and some beers that are tough to find. Prices can be a bit all over the place. My biggest complaint though is the amount of way past date beers and the heavily fruited sours stating must be refrigerated that are on the shelves. I just know now I have to double check the dates on everything and have skipped buying things for sure. The next room has the main bar with seating and a handful of high top tables. This has been where we have sat every visit. I'm not sure how service is supposed to be as it's been inconsistent. One visit we have had table service. The next we had to go up to the bar to be able to order anything. Another someone said they would be right there for our order and we were left waiting a long time. The draft list is a good size and offers a good variety. They also frequently do special events and tap takeovers bringing in beers hard to find on draft locally. Unfortunately last time we went for a tap takeover we were told those couldn't be included in the flight option. They almost push you to drink more because there is a variety to try only in small or full pours. However the small pours are so much more expensive, especially when the full pours are on happy hour. They are known for their flatbreads and have a huge variety of them available ranging from much more traditional to the more creative. They also often have specials available. There are appetizers and other food available as well but we have always stuck with flatbreads. The flatbreads are pretty good but nothing special. Overall Vintage Estates is a mixed bag. They do have something for everyone as far as beer, wine, cider and mead. They have some decent food to go along with it. They just have some things they could improve. We will still make a return visit though for some event I'm sure.

We were warmly greeted by Todd and Gina, the owners, who couldn't have been friendlier. Todd told us all about their wines, including the awards they've won, especially in California, and generously offered us the chance to try any of the wines at no cost. We started with the Gruner Veltliner, a bright, citrusy, and crisp wine. It was extremely dry compared to other Gruners we've had, which are usually more fruit-forward, but it was still quite enjoyable. Next, we tried the Riesling, which was also very good. My wife moved over to the semi-sweet side and tried the Traminette, which I eventually sampled after trying all the dry wines. We both really liked it. I then tried the Cabernet Franc, which was a medium-bodied wine with notes of raspberry, blueberry, and a light mocha oakiness--delicious! The Chambourcin was also quite good, without the typical bite or tartness. Lastly, the Flagship Red, a classic Bordeaux-style dry red, had a pleasant hint of pepper and was definitely a standout. Todd shared that they exclusively offer wines from Stony Run Vineyards in Breinigsville, PA, which has a wide selection. They're also planning to offer Old Fashioneds soon, as their winery includes a distillery, and they'll be featuring a "drink of the week" as well. What really sets this place apart, though, is Todd and Gina themselves. They're genuinely kind people who are dedicated to the community, and it was heartwarming to learn that they both served in the US Military--Todd in the Navy and Gina in the Air Force. We're already looking forward to our next visit when we're in the area again. Don't forget to thank them for their service when you stop by!

Ambiance and history alone are 5 stars, the food is the cherry on top. Been wanting to eat here…read moresince I first found it like 20 years ago, but being so far away and dinner being kind of pricey it always just stayed in the back of my mind. Well we had the occasion, wife's bday, and we bit the bullet and made the trip. There's no easy way to get to Hanoverton, so there's that. But once you make it there, the area right around the restaurant transports you back into the 1800s. Much history on that street and inside the restaurant. Take some time to look around each room and the basement too. The service was top notch. Being a party of 8, we got the private dining in the Taft room. They were all over it and did great in taking care of us. The food is not cheap, but it is good. The deviled eggs with salmon, the bruschetta, the onion soup. Chefs kiss. The menu online is somewhat different than in-house, but that was ok. My wife had pierogis and someone else had the beef Wellington and they both loved it. Can't remember everything everyone had. I had what was basically a pot pie, but with bison. Much to my stomachs chagrin I ate the whole thing and was beyond stuffed. We will definitely be back. I recommend reservations if you're coming after 3pm. Something about that place with the smell of the fireplaces wafting thru the building....
