Food was straight up horrible. No flavor and soggy, wouldn't eat this food again to save my life.

The gentrification of Camberwell continues with this craft beer pub with a nice selection of…read moreinteresting beers. A few regulars aside (Kwaak, Lindeboom etc) the tapped beers change pretty much by the barrel so you never know what's going to be available, so each visit is a small boozy adventure. They offer their drinks by the 1/3, 1/2 and pint but my favoured purchase is a "bat" of 3 1/3 pints of different beers. This way it's possible to sample most of the newcomers without getting *too* hammered. Owned by the same people as the Hermits Cave over the road, the staff are friendly, by-and-large. They don't offer food but are happy for you to bring in stuff from the diverse range of local take out places near by. Personal favourites being Maloko: the African creperie and Oregano Leaf: the wood fired pizza place, both just over the road. They have also started, recently, offering 3 and 5 pint take-out bottles of a selection from the casks on offer, which is great, if a little prone to poor causing closing time decisions.

There must be close to 20 craft beers on tap. Some known to me, such as the mighty Kernel, Brooklyn Lager, whose neon sign in the window is the sole indication as to the quality of beer that might lurk within. Others less known, including plenty of small UK brewers. In the fridges I spotted a similar mix of bottles, from noble Trappist beers to other Brooklyn Brewery beers, German lagers and some specialist Belgian beers. In short, plenty of stuff to get stuck into. The staff were also friendly, happily doling out free samples to help with the all-important choosing. Ultimately I went for an excellent Kernel IPA, and very tasty it was too. Overall? I'll be back, and bringing beer buddies a-plenty.

The service went above and beyond (especially for London) and made sure everything was perfect. The waiter was very friendly! I definitely recommend, Swiftie or not!

That said, once you set that aside, it is actually a pretty nice spot. We both went with the Sunday roast. I had the lamb and she had the chicken, and both were genuinely good. Solid portions, well cooked, and exactly what you would hope for from a classic London pub meal. The beer was also a win, no complaints there. Service was where things got a little uneven. It felt like our server might have been new and pretty nervous, which happens, but it did mean we often had to flag down other staff just to get basic things. Not terrible, just a bit disjointed. Cocktails were the biggest miss. I ordered an old fashioned and it felt half finished. It was basically whiskey, a couple sad ice cubes, and what might have been a splash of simple syrup. Maybe that is just a different interpretation in England, but it definitely was not what I expected. My girlfriend raved about the sticky toffee pudding however. Overall though, we did enjoy it. The atmosphere is fun, the food is good, and the little merch stand is a nice touch, especially if you are there for the same reason we were. Not perfect, but still worth a visit.
