I am very upset to say the least, my son recently had 2 teeth extracted by Dr Hughes who I thought was a nice and kid friendly but I was wrong, unfortunately. My son informed me that during his procedure Dr Hughes told a nurse how annoying my son was. I find this very disgusting and disrespectful, my son was in pain and he thought it was okay to comment something like that in front of him, making him feel more anxious and sad! I paid $800 for Dr Hughes to do his job and not to comment on my son's behavior during the surgery knowing damn well he was in pain! read more

I came to this office as an emergency referral due to a wisdom tooth. I was a bit nervous because of the reviews I read about how rude their receptionists are but I decided to give the office a chance since I was in a lot of pain. First red flag was seeing the actual dentist was so weird. It's a hole in the wall space and he came, literally stuck his finger in my mouth and then proceeded to tell me I needed to have it removed (duh) and walked out. I went through the biggest headache with the receptionists who wouldn't schedule my appointment even tho I had an emergency referral number from my insurance. They were so adamant about not removing my tooth unless they knew they were going to be paid. So one of the snobby receptionists claimed she was going to reach out to my insurance. After a couple days of not hearing back from them (while I'm in pain the entire time) I decided to call my insurance to see what was going on. My insurance let me know that this office didn't reach out to them until 4 days after my appointment requesting for a referral AGAIN knowing that it was going to take additional 5-7 business days to hear back from my insurance. So my insurance told this office they can help me first and take care of the paperwork after. They refused due to "past history payments" with my insurance. Where was the customer care??? This entire process caused me 4 weeks of extra agony and pain with my tooth even tho this office already had the approval to help me and chose not to. DO NOT COME HERE. These are money hungry people with snobby receptionists. TRUST THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. read more

This review is a post for my friend, Alvin T. My interactions at their office were mainly with Terri and Dr. Hughes. Terri (Dr's Assistant) always takes care of me there. She's amazing and always super understanding to any of my issues. I had quite a few procedures done at this office, including removal of all 4 wisdom teeth...Terri always helped to make sure everything went smoothly and she provides wonderful beside manners. Dr. Hughes is also a great guy. Very friendly, funny, and caring. He tries to be quick with the services that he provides but at the same time always careful and understanding of the patient. He understands that patients may have dental fears and his whole character will put you at ease. Before you know it, you're already done with procedures he's working on you. Both of them are fantastic people and I can't think of any other office I would positively recommend when it comes to an Oral Surgeon specialist. read more

I had to get a top tooth extracted and I had put it off over a year because I have a lot of anxiety and I'm terrified of the dentist. My dentist recommended dr Hughes. Told me he was a great surgeon and he would take care of me. That they did. From the front office checking me in to the back office on the chair. Dr Hughes is so nice and his assistant was awesome. They had me numbed and tooth pain extracted in less than 15 minutes. They explained everything as they were doing it and both of them comfort me thru the whole process. This review is on my overall experience. The dr's personality was not a problem he was kind and friendly as well as the front office personal. However not all the people in the office are as friendly. My appointment was at 9, I arrived a bit after 8:30, did not get called in for xrays until almost 11 am. Then had to go back to wait to see the doctor. While my tooth was being pulled the dr mentioned to the nurse that he was taking a break. I thought "Well this tooth really doesn't want to come out" just a few minutes later the nurse asked me who i took with me, then she came back with my boyfriend to pick me up, so I guess I was done! She explained the aftercare to my bf and all of that. On my way home i realized i did not get stitches, I guess they were not needed. But i also didn't get pain meds or antibiotics. I was just advised to take Tylenol. 5 days later i am dealing with an infection, now that is not the Dr's fault I understand. But this is my 3rd wisdom tooth and i found it odd that i was not stitched nor received antibiotics or a "you are done" from the dr. read more

I was in such pain from a infected tooth/fractured root canal. After visiting two different dental offices including a root canal specialist, I made the decision to have the very painful tooth extracted. I have had two very bad experiences q/ dentists in my life and as a result have a very high level of anxiety simply thinking about visiting the dentists. Despite this anxiety, the pain was much greater and decided that it had to be dealt with head on I was referred to Dr. Hughes by my regular dentist to perform the extraction. It must be noted that it took one hour from the time I made the decision to have the tooth pulled to the time I was sitting in Dr. Hughes dental chair waiting for the extraction. They were able to see me immediately. Amazing that I did not have to wait days for a appointment. Upon my arrival to Dr. Hughes dental office, I noticed that the waiting room was small but crowded. I prefer a crowded waiting room than no patients at all. To me, it means that many patients believe and trust in Dr. Hughes. "No big deal" was my attitude with a crowded waiting room. After completing the required paperwork, my name was called within fifteen minutes tops. Before going in, and while waiting, I did notice that patients who went in for treatment, were out within a few minutes. Definitely impressed that and sooo looking forward to going in and out myself. Returning to my name being called, I was lead to a small room. A very nice and understanding nurse explained what was about to take place and that my issue would be a quick procedure. Dr Hughes also walked in and introduced himself to me. Very nice, soft spoken man. Dr Hughes advised me that based on my x-rays, he knew I was in pain and that that the pain would be gone within minutes upon completion of my procedure. A thought I could not believe but welcomed with open arms as my tooth was THROBBING by this time I was lead to another room, told to remove my glasses and head set (i always listen to music while at the dentist). Dr Hughes walked in, injected me in the area of my infected tooth which felt like a "pinch" and walked out while the medication numbed the area. Three minutes went by, Dr. Hughes walked in, did what he had to do and pulled my infected tooth. Took all of seven seconds. I felt relief IMMEDIATELY! It was done! Dr Hughes walked out and returned three to four minutes later to check on me and advised that the decision to pull the tooth was a wise decision bcos the fractured root was possibly going to cause me problems in the future. I can HONESTLY say that my stress and anxiety level while in this dental office were nonexistent which is VERY rare for me thanks to the nurses and Dr. Hughes Thank you very much to the staff. You are ALL AWESOME, NICE and very PROFESSIONAL. Dr. Hughes, you are a no-nonsense, caring and a AWESOME surgeon. Thank you very much. You are the BEST! read more

Best doctor ever! I had 2 wisdom teeth removed years ago by another doctor and it was a horrible experience however Dr Hughes was super friendly fast and I didn't feel pain when he numbed me. The removal of my 2 wisdom teeth was literally less than 15 minutes. I didn't believe how fast he worked. Best oral surgeon ever! Front and back staff are very nice and welcoming! I HATE the dentist and I only go if it's an absolute dire emergency. So, with that being said...I woke up one morning with my face puffy and in terrible pain. Should have went to the dentist at that point but I waited till the next day when I realized it wasn't going to get better. I went to my regular dentist who right away said it was an emergency and I needed to see an oral surgeon. Instead of sending me straight to LAUSC she offered to call around for a local oral surgeon. It was after hours and Dr. Hughes was finished for the day, but he agreed to see me. I am so thankful for him and his staff. They were very kind and compassionate. This office is pretty pricey even with insurance so beware. Front staff is nice but you'll wait like 30 min after your appt time which is very annoying & inconvenient especially if someone is brining you to take your wisdom teeth out because you think it's only going to take an hour but it's a lot more because of the wait. The Doctor was very nice and explained everything thoroughly. You can tell he really cares and is great at what he does. I was so scared to get my wisdom teeth out because a previous dentist had said I might lose sensation since they were connected to the nerve but Dr Hughes assured me I'd be fine. I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Hughes back in 2016, but never got around to sharing my experience until now. He and his staff seem like genuinely nice people, but they have no business practicing in the medical field. To start off, I waited over an hour each time I went into my appointments. That was already a red flag. After they got my x-rays, they told me I had to wait 8 MONTHS to "have the anesthetic approved", then they would call me to set up an appointment to extract my wisdom teeth. I rarely went to doctors or dentists, so I wasn't sure if that was normal or not, but it seemed very odd. Eight months passed and nobody got back to me, so I called after the ninth month and was told my anesthetic had been approved for a while. That really irritated me because my bottom teeth were already starting to come out before my first visit and were crowding my other teeth, and the receptionist told me they would call as soon as it was approved. Since the approval process took so long, I was under the impression that they would use either the gas or intravenous type and that I would be fully unconscious. I got to the appointment and all they used was localized anesthetic. The worst part was he started pulling my teeth out before it even kicked in, so I felt EVERYTHING until they injected more. I still have a hole in my gum from what should've been a routine procedure. I'm a bit suspicious at the 5 star reviews, considering all the other 1 stars have similar elements to my own experience. read more

BOTCHED DOCTOR, STAY AWAY FROM HIM.... I have put in a grievances complaint with my insurance, Dr Brennan Hughes BOTCHED MY JAW. after the operation and he did not follow up. I called his office to complain, then he told me to push on my Jaw to put it back into place. I now have to go to another surgeon to fix the operation he did. ZERO STARS! I was debating on whether or not I should post a review about my experience on 7/14/22, but then I think about the pain, lies and treatment received and I hope to help other's from having to experience what I had to go through. I was referred to this office for my molar extractions by my dentist in 2019 (pre-Covid). Although my dentist performs extractions himself, he is aware of my trauma history with having dental work performed and he advised me that the best option was to get sedated for this procedure which is why I was referred out. During my consultation with both Hughes and Terri, I explained everything very clearly to them, including my fear/trauma from past experiences. Not only that, but I also told them that in the past, certain sedatives did not work on me due to my level of anxiety and that I had an aggressive yet terrified reaction towards my dentists. This was all very hard and embarrassing for me to admit, but I felt that they needed to be aware of why I was referred to them. I asked them if I would be sedated and their response multiple times, with reassurance might I add, was that I was going to be very relaxed, comfortable and stress free. Also, they said that I was not going to be fully awake/aware of the situation. Well that was NOT the case at all! On my visit, Hughes came into the room and gave me sedatives. I was waiting for it to take effect, but once he started to perform the procedure I started having a panic attack due to being fully awake as it was taking place. I stopped him and they asked if I could feel anything, I said yes as I was shaking with terror in the chair. I tried to ask "why am I fully awake, why can I feel, why am I not relaxed?" But they continued with the procedure as normal. I am still so upset with myself for not stopping it all together, but I was in such shock at the moment from what was happening that I could not think clear or straight. At the end they called my partner in and the first thing he asked was "she was awake?" I told him that they lied to me and he asked Terri what they gave me and why didn't it work? Terri told him "sometimes patient's bodies can reject the sedatives due to their level of anxiety." Are you kidding me? This is exactly why I provided you with full details about my history. What is even more upsetting about this is that they exhausted ALL of my insurance for this untruthful procedure. Had they told me that I was going to be completely awake/aware, I would have decided to have it performed my dentist vs. going out of my way and thinking I was going to be well taken care of. I cannot stress enough how awful these people are and it now seems like they are only out to get money from insurance vs. care about a person's well-being. Shame on you Hughes and Terri. I have looked into & decided to move forward with filing a Small Claims Suit for damages caused. read more

Dr Hughes and his assistant Terri are angels. Absolute angels. I went in terrified because in addition to an infected wisdom tooth my jaw was completely locked and would not open wide enough to have a proper X-Ray done. However Dr. Hughes office has a great X Ray that doesn't need the jaw to be opened to work. I went to this particular Dr on a referral from my dentist and went blindly without looking at any reviews first. I knew I needed an extraction, I've had one before and wasn't scared of that... but I knew they were going to have to force my jaw open to do it and I was terrified because it hurt even more than my tooth. I thought I was going in for a consult but Dr. said the tooth had to come out asap because of my major swelling. I was scared and shaking. His assistant Terri was so kind and helped calm my nerves by chatting with me. She even dried my tears as I waited for the sedatives and anesthesia to kick in. Even with my locked jaw Dr. Hughes had the experience to still be able to go in and remove the tooth with virtually no pain to me. I instantly felt better. I wanted to hug him and Terri. They were both so kind. And I was expecting the bill to be MUCH higher than it was. I was shocked when they gave me the quote. I would recommend their office to anyone who needs an extraction. Don't go through the pain! Go see these nice people as soon as possible. They are miracle workers!! read more
