Had a great time visiting this community pool with friends who are members. There is also a separate kid play area with one of those waterfall mushrooms/umbrellas. They also have an astro turf playground and a basketball court in addition to plenty of picnic areas and large bathrooms with showers/changing areas. The life guards also enforce a 15 minute adults only time in the main pool at quarter of each hour. Our friend's son participates in their swim lessons and for $20, you get a one-on-one session with a lifeguard for 30 minutes. The price seems pretty reasonable to me for this area and her son has become a much more confident swimmer over the past month. We had a relaxing experience in the sun and water with our friends. Definitely recommend this location to others.

There are dedicated lanes for laps that are usually available and they have a baby pool with a shaded picnic area. They even have 4 grills and provide the propane for members to use. There is lots of shade in the late afternoon and early evenings. The swim team is very active for about 6 weeks, but otherwise, the deck can be very quiet and relaxing. They offer adult workouts for a small fee in the early mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Adult only swim on Sunday morning from 9-11am. They offer fun events like family bingo, float nights and movies, food trucks and parties if you like to socialize. They even offer yoga on the deck some Sunday mornings. Lots of families with kids and the members are all very friendly. Membership fee includes the entire family in your house, and even allows you to bring your Nanny to watch the kids during the day if you work.

Unfortunately there are only a couple of lanes available in the deep end as the rest of the deep end is saved for things like water aerobics. The weight room was pretty disappointing. It was missing quite a bit of equipment I would expect in a weight room. I ended up choosing a different gym for my weight lifting, as I was constantly having to change my planned workout due to a lack of equipment. The pool is good though.

I've planned and shown up on two different days: Monday and Tuesday afternoon and haven't been able to use the facilities bc they changed the availability. What's the point of getting a pass when you don't know when it's available for use? The only upside is that the staff is nice and helpful. I'm not sure who makes the changes and communicates/doesn't communicate when pool users are allowed to use certain areas of the pool. They need to figure this out, or just know you'll waste your time!

There are also racquet ball courts which evidently are pretty nice according to the guys I spoke with who use them. There are payrooms for younger children and they evidently also have a party room for birthdays. Finally, there's a weight room. The Rec Center is reasonably clean and there's a sauna in both changing rooms. You can bring your own lock, use no lock, or pay 50 cents to use the key on the locker. The staff at this Rec Center are wonderful. They're friendly, helpful and accommodating. Clearly however, this place is severely underresourced. Three men's locker room is cold, really cold when you come in from the pool. There are about 6 showers, but half of them don't have earn enough warm water to take a comfortable shower. The pool is really nice, and it's great that the length is 25 meters, not yards. But given the high demand and the ever changing schedule, swimming laps isn't as easy as it ought to be. Especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The weight room is truly sad. The room is small, that's a function of the building's size. That's not the issue for me. There are several machines that haven't been maintained for what looks like a very long time. They are rusted, most squeak, some so loudly that you really can't use them. The padding is worn on several of the machines as well. There are also treadmills, arc trainers and a rowing machine. The rowing machine is in relatively good repair. I didn't use the others. Unfortunately, other than a very low membership fee, especially for residents of Alexandria, there are just so many better options available that I don't recommend Chinquapin Rec Center. I've decided to join the Franconia Rec center in Fairfax. It's more expensive, but it's twice as good!

The photos below don't even show HALF of what's out of service. Why charge your members a maintenance fee if they cannot use the equipment? The crank machine literally only needs someone to take a hex screw to tighten it. There are even machines without out of service signs, so you wont even know until you start working out. Whoever is overseeing this location needs to fix the equipment. FIX THE JACOB LADDER. ALL MACHINES SHOULD BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED. Folks will just go to another location to be honest.

I inquired about since I was already a member whether I could use this location as well since it would also be convenient when my work schedule would allow the time. In order to use this gym it would increase the payment by an additional $20/month, or if you don't choose the monthly option you could pay a $20 per visit guest fee. I guess since of the most recent 30 reviews that 21 of them are a "1-star" review I shouldn't be surprised or upset.

I stumbled on this gym after stopping to the Springfield Mall to pick up an online order from the nearby Target. Since I was out doing weekend errands anyway and had the gym on my list of "to-do's", I figured why not stop here for a quick workout. From the beginning, I walked in and was immediately greeted by staff. The location was very open and clean, with tons of equipment and exercise machines everywhere. It is split between two levels, with the main entrance including a lounge area and most of the exercise equipment on the second level. Talk about a gym junkie' play ground. This is it all packed in a semi-small floorplan and footprint, but at the same time a well planned-out gym and layout. I consider myself a somewhat heavy lifter (375 lb Bench and up to 80lb Dumbells) and not only did they have all the weights I needed, they had a few surprise things I wasn't expecting such as CrossFit equipment and a well equipped indoor HITT training area....in addition a full basketball court! Another pet peeve of mine is clean locker rooms, a gold star for this location and clean as expected. Oh! And, let's not forget a lap pool for swim enthusiast. In all, you cannot beat this location for all the amenities that they have. Initially, the gym appears small at first glance until walk to the main lookout floor on its lower level. It is here that you can find any and everything you need to have a productive workout and change things up every now and then. The only two drawbacks that I noticed about this gym was the broken sauna and the parking which can get tight....because it is shared with the mall parking. If only I lived closer, this would definitely be my gym!
