Had a great time visiting this community pool with friends who are members. The main pool is…read morespacious and offers plenty of space to float about, play water games, or swim laps in two sectioned off lanes. They have a fun slide and diving board area as well. There is also a separate kid play area with one of those waterfall mushrooms/umbrellas. They also have an astro turf playground and a basketball court in addition to plenty of picnic areas and large bathrooms with showers/changing areas. The life guards also enforce a 15 minute adults only time in the main pool at quarter of each hour. Our friend's son participates in their swim lessons and for $20, you get a one-on-one session with a lifeguard for 30 minutes. The price seems pretty reasonable to me for this area and her son has become a much more confident swimmer over the past month. We had a relaxing experience in the sun and water with our friends. Definitely recommend this location to others.

What is doesn't...scheduling. Whether you like it or not, their swim team gets priority at this pool. The last few years the swim/dive program has become a major priority for this pool. Practices not only take up a chunk of real estate (4+ lanes & the diving area) for some of the busiest times at the pool (3-7ish). That's just for the practices, not to mention the swim meets... So when you get home from work/school/where ever, the sun's out & you just want to enjoy the pool. Don't hold your breath, it'll be like rush hour, on the metro, during a track delay.

After swimming during their "family time," we will definitely be back. Here's why. 1) Admission: Run by Arlington Parks and Rec, admission is required for everyone. It's slightly cheaper for Arlington residents. Our friends who went right when family time started paid $25 as D.C. residents. We got their with only two hours left and weren't charged anything. 2) Pools: One side has lap pools for adults and lessons. The other side has a large pool, lazy river, little kid space, and water slide for families. The water was clean and the lazy river was fun. (The current is stronger than expected making it fun.) 3) Space: They have family changing areas with showers with hot water, lockers (bring your own locks), and more. Upstairs is a gym and an outdoor terrace bleeding into Long Bridge Park with views of National Airport and Washington, D.C. 4) Parking: With such a large parking lot, you can usually find a space. Of course, parking is free. 5) Area: Afterwards, grab lunch or dinner at nearby Crystal City where you can find fats casual like Rasa and sit-down restaurants.

There is a membership, so keep that in mind; even if you come to live in the neighborhood, there is currently a 5-6 year waiting list, as it is that high in demand! However, you are allowed to use the facilities as a guest, so if you know someone, rub elbows :D During the summer, it is packed to the brim - the lifeguards are on duty at the pool, and there is a small sandlot for playdates and those who are just not interested in the aquatics. The manager is very responsive too. The biggest pain about this pool is that the laps are in the middle, between the main pool and the deep end. Packs of children cross the lap lanes whenever they want to, are observed by staff/lifeguards, and not stopped. This is dangerous and very surprising when you're swimming laps and suddenly there's a child right in front of you. Some parents actually *put their children in the lap lanes* even when they see other people are swimming laps. It's completely frustrating. The children have their own ladder to get out from the deep end, but prefer to swim into the adjacent lane and use that ladder instead. I finally said something to a pack of 4-5 children who were doing this. The lifeguards clearly weren't going to do anything about it. IMHO they should move the lap lanes if possible so that children aren't constantly crossing it. Having it in the middle of the pool was perhaps not the best planning. Otherwise, it would be good to post signs or warn kids not to go into the lanes all the time. Overall it's a good pool and the staff are pretty friendly. I did hear the lifeguards repeatedly yell that 'there were Asians in the back' as the pool was closing up, whatever that means. Came off kind of insensitive. One person in our party was Asian so I couldn't figure out if they were trying to make sure we had left or what before they closed.
