I've lost count how many times I've visited Brel over the years. Many places in Ashton Lane have changed hands and names, but Brel remains, and it's easy to see why. The mussels are just divine, my choice every time, and my wife last time opted for the seafood linguine, also beautiful. I've always found the decor a little clunky and uncomfortable, but it's a small sacrifice. The selection of beers is always a lot of fun, having visited Belgium several times, it really feels like I'm back there in one of it's rustic beer halls.
Unfortunately, during our last visit, I found our waitress a little rude, which is off-putting - the studenty, chirpy staff seem to change every visit, ranging from lovely and attentive to sullen and lazy. Which is a shame. But on a whole, a great little place. read more
