She is a highly educated corrective/adaptive movement professional with deep knowledge in kinesiology, dance, pilates and other modalities. I signed up for Pilates classes as a complete novice and had just a few private classes at the studio before the pandemic shut everything down. My instructor was (and is) Summer Doty and she impressed me immediately with her knowledge of the human body and her ability to assess my issues. Zoom classes began soon after the shutdown and have continued ever since. I love the Zoom mat classes and Summer never misses a beat, still keeping an eye on her clients and making sure that our form is correct. I was concerned that the Zoom platform would decrease the viability of the sessions, but you really can't get away with improper form. I've been doing Pilates on the machines and mat for over 8 years; I've taken Pilates from a variety of different teachers and studios from Canada, the U.A. and Mexico. In Santa Cruz alone I've worked out at 4 different studios. None of the teachers compare to the Pilates I've done with Summer from Breathe Deeply. She is the owner/teacher and her passion and knowledge of anatomy and Pilates is amazing; she can look at your body and see the slightest anatomical correction that needs to be made! For someone who has been doing Pilates as long as myself this is such a treat; I am constantly learning from her. I had been doing Pilates for about 2 years before the pandemic at a studio in downtown SC a few minutes from my house. They closed and when gyms and studios began to be opened, the Breathe Deeply Pilates studio was recommended to me. I live on the westside of town and was hesitant to drive all the way to Rio del Mar for classes, but I am so glad that I did. The classes are absolutely terrific. I have had back problems for 40 years, and while the first studio helped with those, Breathe Deeply has done so much more. I have muscles in places I didn't know I had muscles and I feel the best I have in years which I never expected as I am in my 70s. This business had been my saving grace during Covid 19 to keep my body feeling healthy and able to move!! When the virus hit, my original Pilates Studio unfortunately had to close it's doors and it took a few months before I had the courage to reach out to another studio. I have a friend that has 3 kids and is the most amazing shape. She told me that integrates pilates into her normal workout at least once a week. So, naturally I was intrigued. She referred my to Aine (pronounced On-yah) at Breathe Deeply. I called and spoke to Aine and she informed me that before I took the beginner mat class ($20 per session) that I needed to take 4 intro classes ($140) in order to make sure I learned the breathing and movements properly. Well, my first thought was to call around and check prices. Other places told me to come right in to their beginner class. So, I felt comforted knowing that Breathe Deeply didn't just want me to be another customer. But, they wanted me to learn the proper techniques. So happy I found this great small studio. Summer Doty, the owner, has a unique style and great ability to give individual cues to correct alignment that help you get more from each exercise, as well as prevent injury. Her intermediate classes are appropriately challenging and always varied. Kendra Kirk gives a lovely, flowing class that always gets your entire body and leaves you feeling lengthened as well as worked out. The studio has springboards, which are like the tower, but much easier to adjust so you have time for more exercises. With over 35 years in the fitness industry, I can say that Summer and her staff are top notch. The studio is always immaculate and they keep things very professional. I have been wanting to try Pilates for over a year and finally took the plunge a few weeks ago. Wow!! I was so sore after my first session and my abs actually had a cut. The studio is immaculate with brand new top of the line gear. The requirement for 4 intro private classes at a discounted rate is well worth it to make sure one is ready for a group experience. My classes are with Sandra Larson and she is wonderful. She always greets me with a big smile and positive attitude and let me tell you, after a stressful work day, It is so nice to have the personal attention and carrying that I have been getting from each class.
