Just a quick update to mention that this is my regular lunch or dinner stop when I travel on I-74 from Indy to Champaign or Peoria for work. Everything I have ever tried here is just excellent! I'm working my way through the menu but at this time my favorites are the avocado tacos and the chimichangas. Salsa is full of flavor and very smooth. Excellent service, and you can order online. I'm still amazed that I happened to discover this hidden gem on one of my trips a few years ago. If you are traveling on I-74 take a quick detour at the Mahomet exit, it is less than a mile off the interstate. read more

Great little find in Mahomet - right off the interstate. I had a ground beef chimichanga. Deliciously crisp tortilla with a flavorful ground beef. Had queso over the large entree which topped it off perfectly! Owner was so nice and we really liked the cozy feel. Will return read more

Very unique Mexican food and the food is good. We usually get it to go and never had any issues.

Family owned. Good authentic food. Casual style with daily special. Great queso and fish tacos. Enjoy the outdoor patio when warmer. Big carryout and delivery business also. read more

Breaking Taco is a great place to enjoy fresh & tasty Mexican fair! Their chicken bowls are a favorite and yummy salsa!

The food is excellent! My favorite is the fried mushroom quesadillas! Black beans and rice and very good too. The service is ok, was better a couple of years ago. Nice place to take your family and get good authentic Mexican food. Seating inside and outside. read more

The last 3 times eating here the food and been very bland. The quality of meat was less than to be desired.

We were passing through Mahomet, Illinois, and happened upon Breaking Taco (heavily referencing Breaking Bad). I had the beef taco salad. It was so large and packed with goodness that I just couldn't finish. My husband had the soft tacos and he raved about the flavor! Look up the menu and pay them a visit! You will be a happy and satisfied customer! read more

This is the go to place for Mexican food in Mahomet. My order cycles between chorizo tacos, a pork torta, the fajita burrito, and the enchiladas verdes. I have never had a bad meal or less than great service. Be sure to check out the chalkboard when you walk in for the weekly specials. If you are lucky, the tres leches cake will be available. read more

I would say this Mexican restaurant is by far one of my favorites. I have always had a very enjoyable experience at this restaurant. And the staff is very friendly! I would highly recommend! read more

I got the Toluca burrito. It was very good. I was also impressed with the fast, friendly, and attentive service.

Service was great and really fast. The environment is good as well, and has a very authentic decor going on. Wasn't a big fan of their salsa though. Tasted like chili and their queso was very similar to an Alfredo sauce. Just wasn't for me, but appreciated the fast service. read more

The salsa was puréed and tasted like marinara, the queso did not even seem like cheese (runny and also grainy like it was maybe made from powdered cheese and just not a good taste). We decided not stay for an entree. Cute interior/design and friendly staff though! read more

A change from your standard Mexican restaurant. They don't use the standard white queso. Try the fried chicken quesadilla. Staff are always friendly. It's not big but has a cozy feel inside and provides outdoor dining in the warmer months. read more

Different than most Mexican restaurants around. Seems the food is more authentic and the workers are always very friendly and the food is always really good. Will definitely continue to eat there. read more

The service was good but this was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The rice was plain white, the chicken appeared to be boiled. It was all very flavorless, and I don't even know what was in the bright orange salsa. read more

absolutely amazing plus they deliver! great options lots of fresh menu items Can't wait to try them again.

This place is a real hidden gem in a little town just outside of Champaign, IL and wow this place very authentic Mexican and I think it could beat out Maize another great authentic Mexican place out in the center of Champaign. The tacos where off the wall fantastic. Had 2 Carne Asada tacos and they were super delicious. The taco shell full of flavor and the Carme cooked just right juicy and flavorful on top of some onions and cilantro. I also had the Green Enchiladas. Super delicious and flavorful as well with the green sauce and the other ingredients. To drink I had the Horchata which was great but not very sweet either. I thought it could have used some cinnamon on it. Overall super delicious food being a very small hole in the wall in Mahomet, IL. Glad I tried it through as it was being referred to be by a friend. read more

My wife always wants to come here instead of Mexican in Champaign or Urbana. Everyone always has been very friendly. It's a small restaurant, indoor and outdoor seating... we have been here multiple times and we've always had a positive experience. read more

Food, drinks and service were great! Stuffed poblano peppers and fish tacos were both excellent, as were the frozen margaritas.

We had a bunch of different tacos and they were all really good. I think the steak ones were my favorite. The beef is cut in really small pieces which makes it easier to eat. These tacos are very simple but delish! Cilantro, onion, meat and some seasonings on what type of tortilla you want. We really like the simple fresh flavors here. The salsa is just OK though. read more

went in because i've lived here forever and never been to this place first it was so hot inside felt like I could pass out the waitress were a little busy but they were not very attentive. food is ok at best nothing to really rave about. put it this way now I know why it's taken so long to go here and I can say I won't be back read more

Great food. Great service. They have catered Christmas for my family twice as well! Fabulous!

Last weekend after going to the Night Light in The Botanical Gardens at Lake of the Woods, we stopped at Breaking Taco for dinner. They have a new menu since the last time we were there. The service was good. The drinks were OK the food was good except for the very disappointing and bland white rice (was expecting Spanish rice.) read more

Wow, lots of Mexican options in Mahomet but this place is fresh, fresh, fresh. Loved the freshly made sauces and loved the fresh taste of the meats, tortillas and sides. Its a small location but they have seating both inside and a nice patio. We love their food and always make it a point to go there when we are feeling the need for some fresh tacos. The chips, salsa and guacamole are exceptional. read more

My rating system explained: 1 & 2 is trash. 3 is avg. 4 is excellent. 5 is the best I've ever had... which is a bold statement. The food tasted great. Not your stereotypical Mexican restaurant with giant plates covered in some sort of cheese sauce. The plates were tasty and presentation was classy. Chips and salsa weren't spicy but very flavorful. It's a small family owned business so service can be slow, no biggie. read more

I bought a Got Spot certificate some time ago and had been waiting for the chance to use it at Breaking Taco. That chance came last Sunday night. The restaurant is rather small and I felt a bit cramped at our table.Everyone eating there that night was sitting on the same side of the restaurant in the booths. Service was friendly. We felt welcomed there and were waited upon promptly. Food: The tortilla chips were nice and salty, but the salsa seemed drab. My wife ordered the Cactus Huarache and thought it was good. She gave it a grade of B. I had a steak burrito, rice and beans. The beans were tasteless and the rice only had taste when adding some verde sauce to it. I thought that my burrito was lacking taste. I gave it a grade of C-. We drove in from Champaign, where we have many very good Mexican restaurants. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like Breaking Taco was worth the drive. We do not plan on returning. read more

This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant at Mahomet. The food was great and the service was fast. I ordered the green enchiladas and a flan. Both of the items were delicious. My only criticism is tomato salsa. It will be better if they add more jalapeños. read more

Absolutely terrible food. I've had better Mexican food from a street taco pack from Walmart. Dishes were dirty. Salsa tasted & looked like it was the cheapest thing bought from a grocery store & then proceeded to sit in a fridge for 2 months. read more
